3. List all firearms as above
7. FIREARM THIS APPLICATION REFERS TO

7.1 I Have bought this (Enter make and model) pistol or shotgun (choose the relevant
one) for self-protection as a main reason and also for occasional sport shooting.

I have the CZ 9mmP Pistol licensed in my name for Dedicated Sport Shooting.
The question may be – why would I not use this firearm for self-protection?
– The CZ is a well-known firearm, but it is too bulky and heavy to carry as a
self-protection firearm and I cannot conceal this firearm under my clothes as the
Act prescribes to do so.

7.2 This (for example) .45 calibre Glock Pistol is ideally suited for self-protection as it is
easily concealable and a subcompact model. Almost all security and military personnel
carry the Glock as it is one of the most rigid and reliable firearms there is.

8. PURPOSE OF USE FOR SELF PROTECTION

******WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY DO ALOT OR FREQUENTLY AND IDENTIFY

THE CRIME RELATED ACTIVITIES AROUND THAT. GET EXAMPLES FROM GOOGLE
AND ADD THAT AS PROOF TO SHOW NECESSITY AS WELL AS CRIME STATISTICS
WHERE YOU LIVE, TRAVEL TO WORK ETC, NEWS ARTICLES OF CRIMES IN
ARES ALSO ESSENTIAL

ONE EXAMPLE

8.1 I would like to explain my situation why I need this Glock for self-protection:

Me and my wife cycle a lot in non-urban areas with our mountain bikes. This sometimes
creates uneasy problems as there are no other places to ride except on the tar roads
which is a great danger due to the road conditions and traffic as well as all the
accidents that cyclists have which they don’t usually walk unscathed away from.

We also like the outdoors and to be active. I also train myself for competition days and
ride up to 50 kilometres per day which makes you very fit but also very tired. In this
instance if you should get knocked off your bike by a would-be thief you are hurt in the
first place, secondly you are tired, so you cannot defend yourself against three or four
attackers. A lot of these cases there has been people shot, held at knifepoint and some
people also have been robbed by people that had “pangas” – This statistics and
statements I got from this website – http://www.selectcyclingclub.co.za/

8.2 As it shows in the previous statement and attachments you will see that most of these
attacks happened to people whilst they were off the road in places where nobody saw
them – This is, unfortunately, the place where we need to ride in order to get ready for
competitions/tournaments. This is also some of the places where we have been riding
and also some of the places that we want to go and ride.

It seems that we are arrogant and ignorant of the incidents, but I mention this again –
this is the only place that we can ride to prepare for competition days as it is a great
risk that we take to ride on the tarred roads because of the heavy motor vehicles and
high accidents rates. To me in my personal mind the road is there for motor vehicles
and motorcycles not for cyclists.

8.3 We live in a quiet “cull de sac” which is very nice but also can fall victim to house break-
ins car theft or Hi-Jack possibilities. (ATTACH PHOTOS TO SHOW PROOF TO WHAT
YOU STATE)

8.4 We do sometimes have power outages (Likely load shedding), which means that we sit
with no lights outside the premises which makes it ideal for people to hide in nearby
bushes for an ambush on the people in that area. We will then also be forced to open
the motorized gate manually which also constitutes a potentially dangerous situation.
(SHOW GATE AND AREA INSIDE AND OUTSIDE GATE)

8.5 We have connected a Linked alarm system with (Enter security company) which is an
armed reaction response agency. (ATTACHED SECURITY CONTRACT OR PROOF)

8.6 We have security gates/bars on all opening doors and windows but there are some of
the places where it is still easy to gain access. The problem of this issue is that we are
currently renting this premises and that the landlord does not want to put up extra
burglar bars. I do however activate the alarm when we are not at home or when we go
to bed at night and also lock the master bedroom door for extra security measures.

8.7 Also this can be seen from the crime statistics that I got from the SAPS website
(Annexure 18)

The statistics show an increase in violent crimes in the area of Brooklyn where we live
and work currently in 2018.
9. SAFE STORAGE

9.1.1 I will store my firearms in The SABS approved safe that has been inspected by my DFO
on (enter date of inspection) and has found it to be in order.
• Please remember to complete the Safe statement (Annexure A) and add photos of the
safe (show where safe has rawl bolts attached)

10. APPLICATION FOR SELF PROTECTION (SECTION 13 OF ACT 60/2000)

10.1 Against this background I sincerely request the central firearms registry to grant me a
license for this specific (Enter calibre, make and model e.g. .45 Glock Pistol) with serial
number (enter serial no), for the purpose of self-protection.
