suit your comprehension level. Using this learning resource, you ought to examine
sample oral communication activities.

a. distinguishing formal and informal oral communication;


b. identifying the verbal and non-verbal oral communication; and
c. interpreting nonverbal communication.

Note: This module focuses on the Oral Communication Activities part of the
original MELC, which is Examine Oral Communication Activities in order
to come up with eight modules. (Ref.: Regional Memorandum No. 056,
s. 2022)

What is Oral Communication?

Oral communication is communicating with spoken words. It’s a verbal form of


communication where you communicate your thoughts, present ideas, and share
information. It can either be formal or informal depending on the purpose of
communication.

Informal communication includes:

a. face-to-face conversation
b. telephone conversation
c. discussions at business meetings

Face-to-Face Conversations

 Face-to-face communication is being able to


see the other person in a conversation.

 It allows an opportunity to a better exchange of


information.
Formal communication includes:

a. presentations at business meetings


b. classroom lecture
a. commencement speeches

Communication during Meetings

 Meetings are one example of formal


communication where there is a
group communication in action.

 It promotes a successful business


communication and leadership.

 Provides notice and planning clearly.

Formal and informal communication also involves verbal and non-verbal


cues. Verbal cues are the superficial part of communication because it includes
auditory language such as sounds and words to deliver the message. On the other
hand, non-verbal cues are self-expression apart from spoken words.

Verbal cues are more impactful when it involves attitudes and behavior.
Furthermore, when verbal and non-verbal cues disagree, you ought to believe the
non-verbal cues.

Here is a table that summarizes both verbal and non-verbal cues.
