A Clean Slate or a Lost Opportunity?

As required by DepEd Order No. 21, s.2023, TTES put into practice the Oplan Baklas. An
argument has emerged among educators and other industry participants in the field of
education. Traditional educational posters and visual teaching aids are removed from
classroom walls, leaving them barren. While some contend that this campaign fosters a tidy
and clean environment, others raise concerns about the possible loss of educational
possibilities it may cause.

The teachers of TTES assert that implementing Oplan Baklas has undeniably made the
school a tidy and clean place. Previously covered in educational posters and visual aids,
classroom walls appear more open and organized. The absence of clutter creates a peaceful
atmosphere and is visually appealing. Now that there are no interruptions, learners may
concentrate exclusively on the lessons their teachers present.

However, taking down educational posters and visual aids causes educators to worry about
potentially losing essential teaching resources. Traditional educational posters act as visual
cues and tools that support learning objectives and involve learners in active learning. By
doing away with them, learners can lose out on helpful visual aids that aid in understanding
complex concepts and fostering connections between other subjects. Additionally, visual
teaching tools frequently accommodate different learning styles, helping learners with spatial
and visual intelligence to comprehend and remember material more effectively.

While the Oplan Baklas created setting is orderly and aesthetically pleasant, it is vital to
balance atmosphere and educational value. Educators could investigate alternative
strategies instead of eliminating all visual teaching aids. For instance, laminating posters and
displaying them in a designated space could maintain a tidy appearance while ensuring
learners can access educational information. With this compromise, the learning experience
wouldn't have to be sacrificed for an aesthetically pleasing setting.

Unquestionably, Talao-Talao Elementary School's classrooms now look cleaner and more
orderly thanks to DepEd's Oplan Baklas. However, it's crucial to consider the potential loss
of educational opportunities by doing away with conventional instructional posters and visual
teaching aids. It is essential to strike a balance between aesthetics and educational value to
guarantee that pupils have a well-rounded educational experience. By looking at different
methods, teachers can keep the classroom visually appealing while giving students the
resources to learn and participate more actively. As this discussion continues, putting
learners’ educational needs first is crucial while preserving Oplan Baklas' core values.
