Lesson Plan in Microscope

The lesson plan introduces students to the parts and functions of the compound microscope through inquiry-based learning. Students will be engaged by unscrambling letters to form the word "microscope" and answering key questions. They will then be divided into groups to explore the parts and functions of the microscope through an activity and presentation. Finally, students will have their understanding evaluated through a pencil-paper test with multiple choice questions about microscopes.

LEARNING TASKS
Engage
-
- Before I start, let me reiterate our classroom rules:

 Use polite language

 Bullying is not allowed
 Maintain eye contact during class discussion

 Keep phones (silent mode) inside your bags

 If you need to go to the comfort room, do it without interrupting the class. You can use the
classroom pass but one at a time only.

 Last but not the least, everyone is encouraged to cooperate, have fun and enjoy the 1-hour
science class.
At the start of the session, the teacher let the students find and arrange scrambled letters to form a word ‘MICROSCOPE’.

Instruction
1. The whole class is encouraged to participate in the game.
2. You will be grouped into two groups.
3. There are letters hidden below your tables and chairs.
4. Find the letters that make the word “MICROSCOPE”.
5. Once done, a representative from each group will say something about the microscope.
6. The fastest team who can form the word microscope will receive a gift or a token.
7. And the group with the most number words about microscope will also receive a token.

Key Questions:

 What do you know about microscope?

 Who discovered microscope?

Objective Setting

The teacher will give the learning objectives for the lesson
Explore
Instruction:
1. The class will be divided in two groups.
2. Each group will select a leader, a secretary and one/two reporters.
3. Each group will be given a world map, activity sheet, manila paper and a pentel pen.
4. They will be given 10 minutes to answer or do the activity assigned to them.
5. And 3 minutes for reporting.
6. You will be graded based on the Rubrics given to you

Rubrics:

 Accuracy -- 50%
 Presentation --- 25%
 Teamwork and Cooperation --- 25%
Total 100%

7. Scores will be recorded as their first performance task in First Quarter.

Group 1

G1 – Parts of the Microscope

G2 - Functions

After performing the activity, the students will answer the questions.

Key Questions:

 What are the parts of the microscope?

 What are the functions of the base and the arm of the microscope?
 What do you observe with the objectives of the microscope?
 What is accomplished by turning the coarse adjustment upwards? downwards?
 What is the other function of the revolving nosepiece with the objectives?
 Which part connects the eyepiece to the revolving nosepiece with the objectives?
Explain
Presentation of Outputs. A representative from each group will present the activity assigned to them.

Key Questions:

 Which refers to special equipment that makes small objects like cells look bigger?
 What is the proper way of handling the microscope?
 What are parts and functions of the microscope?
 What do you observe with the objectives of the microscope?
Elaborate
Key Questions:

 What are the other types of microscope?

 Where do we usually use microscope?
 Why do we need microscope?

4. Which part of the microscope holds the slides in place?
5. Which refers to special equipment that makes small objects like cells look bigger?
6. Which part of the microscope makes the specimen easier to see?
7. Which part of the microscope connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses
8. Which part of the microscope moves stage (or body tube) up and down?
9. Which part of the microscope used to fine-tune the focus of your specimen?
10. Which part of the microscope controls the amount of light going through the specimen?
