Lesson Idea
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? Learning goal is to use Sway correctly
and create a digital story. You will learn how to choose an appropriate platform and learn
how to choose appropriate tools to be able to correctly complete your design or project.
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
of these websites with an instructional video and then I will go to the website and
show them on a smartboard. While showing the students how to work the
websites/apps I will also tell them the requirements of the project. I will also have a
handout with the requirements to give them. I will allow them to play around with
technology for a few minutes and ask questions to me or to a peer so that they then
feel comfortable using the new software. Once the students know which software,
they want to use they can then start making their digital story. The feedback will be
for the students to present (if they want) and if they do not like presenting, they can
present their story to me to show me that they made a digital story. I would conclude
the lesson by having a group discussion about the new software used to see how they
like it or did not like it to see if it was good enough to use again with the class.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology: A way to get students actively involved in authentic
tasks would be to get them to work with a partner. This would help students become more
engaged and want to work because they get to work with a friend. I would make sure to set
timers for small tasks so that children know they have time limits to finish activities.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
This lesson plan supports multiple means of engagement by getting the students involved
and engaged with the software and making their stories. This activity enhances the learning
experience by allowing the students to use the software, getting the familiar with technology,
allowing them to express themselves and more.
Reflecting on enhanced learning: I feel good about the activity, and I think the students will
have a fun time creating a story to show me and their friends. I look forward to implementing
technology and new software to the students. As our world goes more towards technology
everyday this will only benefit them in the future. It will only allow them to be better with
technology and allow them to create things they did not know they could.
