Year 7 and 8 Digital Technologies Chat Bot Design Task Assignment Sheetpdf
A chat bot is an application that performs automated tasks and uses simulated conversation as the interface. It interacts with the
user by making commands and suggestions seem like part of a friendly conversation. Chat bots are used in four main ways: to
retrieve information; to make transactions; to give advice and for social conversations.
Many chat bots mimic a conversational tone to make it appear as if someone is speaking to you casually. Chat bots have language
understanding built into them. So, if you set up the right list of questions and answers, your chat bot will seem like it has
anticipated the user’s answers, giving your website a more personalised and human touch.
It is easy to set up chat bots. They work with Microsoft’s cloud (Azure) and Cortana, the virtual assistant with voice recognition on
Windows 10. Microsoft Azure has a chatbot service called Qnamaker.ai. (Question and Answer maker). This software helps users
build a bot in just a single lesson. If you link the bot to a webpage, you can create a chat bot that will answer your page’s
frequently asked questions. You can use it to deal with questions received via a website directly, via Skype, WhatsApp or through
Facebook.
In this lesson, we’re going to design and set up a chat bot that asks questions to help the user plan a summer holiday which is
based around Indigenous Australian Festivals and Tours.
When you have completed the tutorial, you are now ready to go through the same process and create a customised chat bot app
that allows users to ask questions about people and places in The Little Red Yellow Black Book.
First, you will need to generate a list of three questions you will ask the user and then write the answers. Use the chapter
structure in The Little Red Yellow Black Book as a way of developing a sequence of questions you might ask. For example, from the
Who We Are chapter, you could ask: ‘Do you know what the Torres Strait Islander flag looks like?’ Your answer screen could be an
image of the Torres Strait Islander flag, (note that clearance is required from the flag designer, Mr Bernard Namok, when
reproducing the Torres Strait Islander flag). Or, it could be a text answer that describes the flag and who designed it. Chat bots
work by recognising key words. In this example, the keywords are Torres Strait Islander and flag. The bot can figure out what is
being said, and even if the exact wording isn’t a match, it can still make the necessary connections to provide and respond to user
questions and ask the user questions in return.
Develop your list of three questions and answers here: (keep them simple)
