Introduction

• Home economics has played a significant role in the development of education


and practical skills in the Philippines. This field was introduced to the nation
through the efforts of the late Dr. Helent Zoila Tirona Benitez, who established the
Philippine Home Economics Association in 1948. This non-governmental
organization aimed to enhance home economics education across the country. It
brought together individuals, institutions, and organizations, fostering a
collaborative environment for progress.

• Elvessa Ann Stewart was appointed as the Superintendent of Home Economics at the Manila
Board of Education.
