Math10Q2M2 Activity Sheets

This document contains a mathematics module for a student with activities about circles. [1] The first activity defines terms related to circles like radius, diameter, chord, arcs, angles and asks the student to identify them in diagrams. [2] The second activity asks the student to complete a table with examples of circles, arcs, angles based on their understanding from the previous activity. [3] The third activity applies arc addition postulates to find measures of arcs and angles based on given information in diagrams. [4] The final activity asks the student to complete a two column proof for a theorem about inscribed angles.

4. AE a straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle of sphere. Radi
5. LE a line segment which endpoints are on a given circle. Chord

6. ∠NAE Angle whose vertex is the center of the circle the sides of the angle contain two radi of the circle. Central Angle

Process Questions

a. How did you identify and name the parts? How about the semicircle, minor arc, and major arc?
Inscribed angle and central angle? Write your answer in the table.
Semicircle It is a one-dimensional locus of points that forms half of a circle. The
full arc of a semicircle always measures 180°. It has only one line of
symmetry
Minor arc It is the shorter arc connecting two endpoints on a circle. The measure
of a minor arc is less than 180°, and equal to the measure of the arc’s
central angle
Major arc It is the longer arc connecting two endpoints on a circle. The measure
of a major arc is greater than 180°, and equal to 360° minus the
measure of the minor arc with the same endpoints
Inscribed angle It Is the angle formed in the interior of a circle when two chords
intersect on the circle. It can also be defined as the angle subtended at a
point on the circle by two given points on the circle. Equivalently, an
inscribed angle is defined by two chords of the circle sharing endpoint
Central angle It is an angle whose apex (vertex) is the center O of a circle and whose
legs (sides) are radii intersecting the circle in two distinct points A and
B. Central angles are subtended by an arc between those two points,
and the arc length is the central angle of a circle of radius one
(measured in radians).
b. How do you describe a radius, diameter, and chord of a circle?
Write your answers in the table below.

We can identify the parts by their characteristics in terms of the measure of their length angles etc.

IF How will you inscribed the word of God that will be translated to help others?
LBy living by God’s word and showing the people around us God’s love

With circles, geometry becomes at once more interesting and more difficult. Combining curves and straight lines, circles a create whole new
possibilities. A common figure involving a circle is an inscribed angle.

You have learned that an inscribed angle has its vertex on the circle while central angle has its vertex at the center of the circle.

c. In the circle graph, what is the measure of the central angle corresponding to each item?
_Food = 90 other expenses = 60 education = 120 utilities = 45 savings = 45_
e. Suppose the radius of the circle graph is 25 cm. What is the area of education sector in the circle graph?

Jose lives 5 km away from the plaza. Every Saturday, he meets Emilio and Diego for a morning exercise. In going to the plaza, Emilio has to travel 6
km to the west while Diego has to travel 8 km to the south. The location of
their houses and the plaza are illustrated on the coordinate plane as shown below.

Questions:
1. How far is Emilio’s house from Diego’s house? Explain your answer.
Use Pythagorean Theorem, c²=a²+b²
c2= 8²km+6²km substitute the distance to the formula
c=√64km+36km c=√100 =10km

Therefore, the Distance of Diego and Emilio’s house is 10Km

MATHEMATICS 10 • DPPONSICA • JHS |PAGE 7

2. Suppose the City Hall is 4 km north of Jose’s house, how far is it from the plaza? _3km_ from Emilio’s house? _5km_
Explain your answer. _Get the order pair of the coordinates (0,4) CITY HALL, (3,4) PLAZA and use the formula D= √ (x2 − x1) ² + (y2
− y1) ² and substitute the value D=√ (3-0) ²+(4-4) ² = solved as; D=√3²+0 then D=3km
We have the distance of City Hall to Plaza as 3km then we use Pythagorean Theorem, c²=a²+b² to solve the distance of the Plaza to Jose’s house,
c²=4²km+3² we got c² =16km+9km to continue c=√25
Therefor the Distance of the Plaza to Jose’s house is 5Km_

3. How far is the gasoline station from Jose’s house if it is 4 km south of Emilio’s house? _9km,
Explain your answer. Get the order pair of the coordinates (0,0) Jose's House and Gasoline Station (9,0) Apply the equation: D= (x2 – x1) 2
+ (y2 - y1)2 and substitute the values of the ordered pairs D= (0-9)2km+ (0-0)2km then D=192km _

4. What are the coordinates of the points corresponding to the houses of Jose, Emilio, and Diego? How about the coordinates of the point
corresponding to the plaza? Jose (0,0) Emilio (9,4) Diego (3,12) Plaza (3,4)

5. If the City Hall is 4 km north of Jose’s house, what are the coordinates of the point corresponding to it? How about the
coordinates of the point corresponding to the gasoline station if it is 4 km south of Emilio’s house?
City hall (0,4) Gasoline station (0, -4) because our reference is Emilio’s House

6. How are you going to use the coordinates of the points in determining the distance between Emilio’s house and the City Hall? Jose’s house
and the gasoline station? The distances of the houses of Jose, Emilio, and Diego from each other? Explain your answer.
Emilio’s house (9,4) City Hall (0,4)
D= √ (x2 − x1) ²km + (y2 − y1) ²km, D=√ (0-9) ²km + (4-4) km, D=√-9²+0²km, Therefore the distance is 9km

Jose’s house and the Gasoline station (0,0) and (0,9)

Apply the equation: D= √ (x2 − x1) ² + (y2 − y1) ², D= √ (0-0) ²km + (9-0) ²km, D= √0²+9²km, D= √9²km(simplify) Therefore the
Distance of Jose’s house is 9KM

D= √ (x2 − x1) ² + (y2 − y1) ², D= √ (3 − 0) ²km + (12 − 0) ²km, D= √ (9) ²km + (144) ²km, D= √153km
D=12.37km the distance of house of Jose to Diego’s house

Jose (0,0), Emilio (9,4) coordinates

D= √ (x2 − x1) ² + (y2 − y1) ² D= √ (9 − 0)²km + (4 − 4)²km, D= √(9 )² + (0)², D=√(9 )²km , Simplify D=9

Emilio(9,4), and Diego(3,12) coordinates

D= √(x2 − x1)² + (y2 − y1)², D= √(3-9)²km + (12-4)²km, D=√-6²km + 8²km, D= √(36km+64 km), D =√100 km D=10Km the distance of

3. 𝑟 2 − 14𝑟 + _49_

5. 𝑤2 + 9𝑤 + _18_

Questions:
a. How did you determine the number that must be added to each expression to produce a perfect square trinomial?
We must add the square of half of coefficient of x. for example: The trinomial will then be the square of (x + half-that-coefficient). We add
the square of half the coefficient of x -- half of 8 is 4 -- because when we multiply (x + 4)2, the coefficient of x will be twice that number.
