Lesson Idea
S1P1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to investigate light and sound.
The student learning goal for this lesson idea is to ask questions about light sources, identify
them, and then compare them to one another.
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology
tool?)
How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply. (Sometimes only one option will
apply.)
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Basic Productivity Presentation Tool
Lesson Idea
After students are introduced to the lesson topic, lesson implementation, and a workshop on
how to work Microsoft PowerPoint, they will begin working on their audio eBook. We will
promote students to tech experts throughout the lesson. This will allow friendly competition
and focus on different learning styles throughout the classroom. The students will work on
this project in class during science block and have 30-40 minutes each day to work on it. As
they get started on their audio eBook there will be two 5-minute breaks after every 15
minutes this will give the students a break from staring at the computer and give them back
some attentiveness. The teacher will provide ample supports to the students by giving them a
storyboard outline to fill out before starting on Microsoft PowerPoint. They will use their
prior knowledge and look up light sources on the internet to gain insights. The students will
collaborate with their elbow partner by asking them questions and remain open to receiving
feedback. To keep students on track we will go over our learning goals at the beginning of the
lesson and right after each 5-minute break.
This Basic Productivity Presentation Tool supports all students and shows multiple means of
engagement by encouraging them to be creative and allowing collaboration between their
peers. This lesson gives the students an opportunity to learn new components across the
board. From light sources to how Microsoft PowerPoint works. By conducting this lesson, it
gives students the chance to choose this platform to create other products in the future.
Students will have a choice on how they want their stories to look and sound, they can use
their own names in the story or names of friends/family. They can select their own visuals for
presentation as well. These things are important because to some degree it does give the
students a voice and choice. This also allows for personalized learning.
I feel like after designing this lesson and conducting it with students it will impact their
learning by showing them that even though they are working on the same topic there can still
be versatility and differences. I look forward to seeing how the students will design their
presentations and which light sources they’ll choose. I also look forward to having the
students work on Microsoft PowerPoint for the first time.
