Question 1: Do you think that the Church in general has understood her mission for the
World?

To be able to give answer to this question, we first need to go back to the mission that the
Lord Jesus gave the Church in Matthew 28:19 ‘Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,’ (New
International Version). We can derive from this verse that the mission given to the Church by
the Lord is to make disciples; persons who are called to follow Jesus and who have
encountered God¡¯s reign in Jesus¡¯ preaching and actions and are willing to witness God¡¯s
presence in their lives (Carter: 552). As a result, our mission is to be disciples who also make
disciples. Though we don’t see the word ‘mission’ in this text, the word implies a purposeful
movement or being sent from one place to another and this can be seen in the beginning of the
verse ‘therefore go…’. This brings out two elements contained in the mission of the Church:
movement and making disciples.

From here I will say the mission of the church lies at two levels: the global and the local
mission of the church.

 The global mission of the church: the Lord Jesus will say ‘…and you shall
be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the
earth” (Acts 1:8, NKJ). This is a call to the early church to move so as to spread the
Good News they had received and this implies movement to bring the whole world to
know Christ. The vision of the church in Revelation 7:9-10 pictures people of every
race and tribe worshiping the Lord and thus shows a global outreach of the mission.
 The local mission of the church: the mission here consists of the church building up
people that is making people disciples. The church must carter about the needs of the
people surrounding her (relationships, evangelism, discipleship and training of
leaders). These are the things that also characterized Jesus’ ministry in Galilee.

Looking at all of these and the activities of the church today, I can say she has partially
understood her mission for the world. Reason being that we have so many churches who
sponsor missions in the world especially into the hinterlands and this is in accordance with the
desire for God to see us move while spreading the gospel. But we also notice several local
churches who have decided to center themselves in specific places and instead invite people
to come to them. Thus concentrating more on the local mission of the church without ever
sending people out of geographical outreach. It is sad to notice that this is exactly what the
early church did by ignoring Acts 1:8 and remaining in Jerusalem, but were forced to obey by
Acts 8:1.

Question 2: Does your church fully play its role in the desire of multiplication of God?

My church fully plays its role regarding the desire of God to see His people multiply. But are
we really efficient in this role, I will say no. We carry out missions beyond our geographical
area and even have some people sent in the missionary field (northern part of Cameroon).
Still, the challenges we face are these people not turning out to be fruitful and also in some
areas the lack of people who can remain behind to take care of the field. After an analysis, we
came to realize that the main problem was the fact that people are not trained or well trained.
Reason why now great emphasis is placed on training through the Bible school of the
ministry.
