5 MAIN COMPONENTS OF ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM

1) Air Flow Meter

The 1KD-FTV engine adopts the hot-wire type air


flow meter designed for direct electrical
measurement of the intake air mass flow.

2) Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

The accelerator pedal position sensor uses a


resistance circuit that outputs voltage that
changes linearly in relation to the amount of
pedal effort that is applied to the accelerator
pedal.

3) EDU (Electronic Driver Unit)

 The EDU has been adopted to drive the injector at high speeds. The EDU has realized
high-speed driv- ing under high fuel pressure conditions through the use of a DC/ DC
converter that provides a high- voltage, quick-charging system.
 The engine ECU constantly monitors the EDU and stops the engine in case an
abnormal condition is detected.

4) Turbo Pressure Sensor

The turbo pressure sensor consists of a semiconductor which utilizes the characteristic of a
silicon chip that changes its electrical resistance when pressure is applied to it. The

sensor converts the intake air pressure into an electrical signal, and sends it to the engine
ECU in an amplified flow.
In addition, the atmospheric pressure can be detected by switching the piping passage
through the operation of the VSV.

Part 1.

Using the voltmeter, measure the voltage to each one of the terminals shown down
under the specified conditions.

Part 3.

Using the ohmmeter, measure the resistance to each one of the terminals shown
down under the specified conditions.

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.


2. Desconnect the 4 conectors from the engine ECU.
3. Measure the resistance between each terminal of
the wiring connectors.

AVISO:
Do not touch the engine ECU terminals.
The tester probe shoul be inserted in the wiring
conector from the wiring side.
