8. A. INSTALL AND CONFIGURE NETWORK DEVICES:
HUB, SWITCH AND ROUTERS
AIM:- To Interface PCs using connectivity devices – Hub, router and switch.
PROCEDURE:-
To connect a computer with any one of the following devices we should
1 Make Straight cables.
2 Then plug in one end of the cable to a computer and other end to Hub, Switch, Router.
Hub: The hub is the central connection point for all devices in a network. PCs and devices are
connected to the hub using network cable that plugs into ports on the hub. When one PC sends data
to another PC on the network, all information travels through the hub. A network hub can have 4 to
16 ports. The hub's total speed, also called bandwidth, is usually either 10 or 100 Mega bits per second
(Mbps).
Switch: A switch looks the same, and performs the same functions as a hub with one difference.
Instead of forwarding data from the sending PC to all the PCs on the network, the switch can determine
exactly who the intended receiver is, and send the data to only that PC. This functionality is much more
efficient than a hub, and therefore speeds up data transmission over the entire network.
Router: A device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least
two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s network. Routers are located at
gateways, the places where two or more networks connect.
8. B. WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS
AIM: To Transfer Files between wired and wireless NIC and transfer files between the systems .
PROCEDURE:
Wired connection:
Determine where the router will be located.
Measure how much cable you’ll need.

Connect your devices using the Ethernet cables.
Set up the networking functions on your computers.
Connect your printers and other peripheral devices.
Wireless connection:
A wireless router is a network device that performs the functions of a router but also includes
the functions of a wireless access point. It is commonly used to allow access to the Internet or a
computer network without the need for a cabled connection. Most current wireless routers have the
following characteristics:
1. LAN ports, which function in the same manner as the ports of a network switch
2. A WAN port, to connect to a wider area network.
3. Wireless antennae. These allow connections from other wireless devices (nics (network
interface cards)).
20
To connect to an available wireless network
Open To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click
Network Connections.
Click the wireless network connection icon, and then, under Network Tasks, click View
