Detailed Lesson Plan - Science

The document provides a detailed lesson plan to teach students about solar and lunar eclipses. It includes objectives, subject matter, materials, and procedures for the lesson. The procedures involve demonstrations with a flashlight, balls and diagrams to illustrate how eclipses occur. Students will define terms, watch video clips, answer questions, and complete an activity and assessment. The goal is for students to understand the causes and differences between solar and lunar eclipses.

Detailed Lesson Plan

Learning Competency: Explain how solar and lunar eclipse occurs.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
a. explain how eclipse occur,
b. draw diagrams to represent conceptual representation of solar and lunar
eclipse, and;
c. recognize the significance of eclipse occurrence in the field of Science.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Eclipse
Reference: K-12 Grade 7 Science Learner’s Material, pp. 261-267
K-12 Grade 7 Science Teachers Guide, pp. 215-217
Materials: Printed Visual Aids, Power Point Presentation and Model

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preparation
Everyone please standup as we feel the Everyone, bow our heads, close your eyes and
presence of the Lord. feel the presence of the Lord… Amen.
(assigned student leads the prayer)

Good day everyone! Good day ma’am!

Before you take your seats make sure (Organizing chairs)

to organize your chairs.

(Checking of Attendance) (Student raise their hand and say present as

Let’s check the attendance first… say the teacher calls in their name.)
present as I call in your name…

So how was your day class? It was great ma’am!

a. Review

Let us first recall our past lessons…

B. Motivation
I brought here with me a flashlight,
small ball and a big ball.

Now, if I arrange this three objects n

this order— flashlight, big ball, small
ball.

Imagine the big ball as the Earth, flashlight as

the Sun, and the small ball as the Moon.
I will flash the light on the objects. What is The shadow of the big ball covers the small
formed on the surface of the Earth? ball.

What phenomenon do you think will occur on

this setup? Lunar Eclipse
Yes, good job!

How about when I put the small ball in the

center and flash the light?
Very good! Solar Eclipse

What I have shown you class, was a simple

demonstration on how solar and lunar eclipse
occurs.

C. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
In a one whole sheet of paper, (Gets one whole sheet of paper and answers
differentiate the solar from lunar the activity)
eclipse from what you observe a while
ago.
b. Analysis
And now class let me show a short Got it ma’am!
video clip about eclipse. And along
the video, I will gonna ask you a
question.

c. Abstraction
As what I have said, we are going to
learn more today about eclipses.

But prior to that, let us first unlock

these difficult words we’ll
encounter afterwards:
Eclipse – a total or partial obscuring
or blocking of one celestial body by
another and its source of
illumination.
Lunar Eclipse – it occurs when the
moon moves through Earth’s
shadow at full moon.
Penumbra – the moon’s faint outer
shadow.
Solar Eclipse – moon casting a
shadow on Earth and blocking our
view of the Sun.
Umbra – the moons’ dark inner
shadow.
We’ve got two types of eclipses:

The first one is the Solar Eclipse. It

happens when the moon is in
between the Sun and Earth blocking
our view of the Sun.

In the activity we have done earlier, Flashlight

what object represents the Sun?
How about the moon? Small ball
The Earth? Big ball

When I flash the light on the two

balls, what have you observed? There are shadows. And the shadows of the
small ball casts on the Big ball.
The dark shadow inside the two
objects is what you called the
Umbra and the faint shadow is
what you called Penumbra.

For further understanding about

Solar Eclipse we’ll be having a short
video. (viewing)

So, that is how solar eclipse occurs.

The second type of eclipse is the

Lunar Eclipse.
So, the question is, how do you
think the lunar eclipse occurs? When the Earth is in between the sun and the
Anyone from the group? moon.

Okay, very good! Lunar eclipse

occurs when the moon is at full
moon passing through the shadow
of the Earth. The alignment would
be Sun-Earth-Moon.

In the activity earlier, what have

observed to the appearance of the
moon? What is the effect of the
shadow of the Earth on the moon
as it reaches to the Earth’s shadow? The shadow of the big ball darkened the small
ball.
Yes, indeed. In short, the only
source of light of the moon at that
time is through the reflected light
from the Sun from the Earth.

For further clarifications, let’s watch

together this short video of the
lunar eclipse. (viewing)

So, that’s how solar and lunar

eclipse occurs.
Do you have any clarifications?

None, ma’am.

d. Application
Now here’s what you are going to
do.
Get one half sheet of paper and
answer the following questions.
And pass it to me afterwards. (Gets one half of paper and answers silently)
1. What are the two types of
eclipses?
2. Differentiate the two types of
eclipse.
3. Explain each type of eclipse.
Elaborate well.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct
answer.

1. How does lunar eclipse occur?

a. When the moon moves through the A
Earth’s shadow during full moon.
b. When the moon is directly on the
opposite side of the Earth and Sun.
c. The Earth has moved along its orbit
taking the moon with it.
d. When the moon comes directly
between the Sun and Earth.
2. What phenomenon occurs when the
Earth is in between the Sun and Moon?
a. Lunar Eclipse
b. Solar Eclipse A
c. Penumbra
d. Umbra
3. What kind of eclipse do we see when
the moon is entirely within the Earth’s Umbra
shadow?

light is dimmed but not totally absent.
a. Umbra c. Total eclipse B

6. The part of the shadow in which all of
the light has been block.
a. Umbra c. Total Eclipse
b. Penumbra d. Eclipse A

b. Total Lunar d. Total Solar
8. Which of the following best shows the
relationship between Earth, the Moon, and the
Sun?
a. The Sun and Earth orbits the Moon D
b. The Earth is in the center as the Sun
and the Moon makes their rotation on their
own orbits.
c. The Sun and the Moon rotates on the
same orbit, as it orbits the Earth
d. The Earth orbits the Sun, while the
moon orbits the Earth.
9. Which of the following statement is
true about umbra and penumbra
a. Umbra and penumbra are two types of D

V. Assignment
Collect some beliefs about eclipse.
You may ask older people in your
family or in the community. Do this
in a short bond paper.
