Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

K-pop or Korean Pop is the Internationally popular, aesthetic-driven, style-bending,

trendsetting, music genre of the 21st century. Originating in South Korea, K-pop draws

influence from genres like pop, experimental, rock, hip-hop, R&B, electronic and

dance. The variety of influences is so vast there’s a K-pop band or performer for

every taste. There are massive girl groups like Girls generation who produce straight

forward pop hits. But if you like pop with a rap break inspired by the rapid lyrical style

of Nikki Minaj then check out BLACKPINK. If your taste is Skews more alt, then the

emo-stylized group F.T ISLAND is for you. And if you want some slow and sensual

R&B, G.O.D. has the jams. But, despite the genre-straddling K-pop is a thoroughly

Korean genre. The tunes are inspired by traditional Korean music and the lyrics are in

Korean with the occasional English sprinkled throughout.

Background of the study

Filipino have been influenced by Korean Pop music not just by its music but

also by their own culture, the way they act, the way they speak etc. Nowadays you

can hear music everywhere, you hear them in a market, at school, at your neighbor

but mostly you hear them from your phone you play them and listen to music. Music

is the art of expressing ideas and emotion in its significant sound forms by using the

element of rhythm, melody and harmony through voice, instruments or both. Music

plays a great role in our daily lives. Those Filipinos who are into K-pop, at that point it

implies a considerable measure. From design, expressions, and social it impacts

them by one means or another. There is no official insight on what numbers of

Filipinos are into K-pop, the researchers could securely say that they could be

considered as a minority yet with immense social reach, particularly on the web.

First Generation K-pop (‘90s-00) Once the K-pop stardom recipe was

discovered (genre-bending music, attractive performers, flawless appearances, and

intricate choreography) the first generation of K-pop stars ushered in. H.O.T is

considered to be the first true K-pop idol group because the group was highly

manufactured and made up of trained pop stars. They released the song Candy in

1997 and it would become a bubblegum pop hit in Korea. Other first-generation

bands to know about are SECHS KIES, a boy band who debuted in 1997; S.E.S. is a

girl group formed in 1997, and FIN.K.L formed by DSP Media in 1998.

Korea, or

the Korean peninsula, where a strong indigenous tradition has been influenced by the

Chinese and the Mongols. Historically, Korean music has been associated with and

influenced by China and Central Asia. When a country integrates cultural traits from

abroad, it is important to keep its own cultural Identity. Popular Korean music, often

referred to as K-pop in English, is a highly commercial industry throughout Asia. The

dominant trend in popular Korean music is currently "idol" (아이돌) groups, though far

from all Korean popular music artists are idols. Idol groups typically feature several

entertainers of the same gender who perform a fusion of dance music, rhythm and

blues, funk, hip-hop and electronic influenced songs. Contemporary Korean music

and K-pop stars are very popular across Asia, and the spread of contemporary

Korean culture designated a word to reflect this fact.

Definition of Terms

Academic Performance - is the measurement of student achievement across

various academic subjects.

Correlation - investigates relationships between variables without the researcher

controlling or manipulating any of them.

Influence - The power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways

K-pop music – The art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for
beauty of form or emotional expressions

Study habits - is how one studies. That is, the habits which students form during

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the research design, the sample, the instruments, the

intervention (if research is experimental), the data collection procedure, and the plan

for data analysis.

Research Design (check pages 137-144 of your book)

Research designs are the specific procedures involved in the research

process: sampling, data collection, and data analysis.

The Sample

The first step leading to the process of collecting quantitative data is to identify

the people and places you plan to study. This involves determining which group of

people will you study, who, specifically, these people are, and how many of them you

will need to involve

The Instrument(s)

This refers to the questionnaire or data gathering tool to be constructed,

validated and administered (Creswell, 2012).

Statistical Treatment (check pages 181-185 of your book)

MARY THE QUEEN COLLEGE OF QUEZON CITY
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

Clearly and completely describe how the intervention will be implemented,

such that the reader can replicate the intervention. Describe what happens in

comparison group.

Data Collection Procedure

Quickly describe whose permission will be sought and arrangements to make

to administer instruments. Describe when instruments will be administered and who

will administer them. Add details on arrangements and administration of instruments,

if needed.
