ABSTRACT
Group work according to Toseland and Rivas (2014:11) is a goal directed activity
with smalls group, aimed at meeting socio-emotional needs and accomplishing
tasks, of which the activity is directed to individual members of the group and the
group as a whole. Groups are classified into different categories where the
facilitator and the members of the group work together. For achieving the goal of
the group, this will be referred to as task group because the aim is to accomplish
a certain goal. In a group setting, different group members get to share feelings
and exchange ideas for the effectiveness of the group with the help of a
facilitator, as this is discussed by Weyers (2011:35) that facilitators uses small
group dynamics and resources in order to assist members to achieve individual
and shared goals.
The group will comprise of women in the shelter and will be the ages between 27 to
45.
The facilitator will use orientation in the pre session with her group members to
achieve three goals set by Toseland and Rivas which are
To explain the purpose of the group: the facilitator will state the group’s
purpose in the beginning of the pre-session and ask the members if they
agree with the purpose and give them an opportunity to ask any question
regarding what was expected from e group during the group work series.
To familiarize the members with the group procedures: The facilitator will
explain the outline of the group work series to her group members including
the number of sessions they will have and her report writing on each session.
To screen the members for appropriateness: The facilitator has to screen the
members during the pre-session to establish whether the group is suitable for
their needs and whether their needs match the group purpose.

Accommodation for three to six months, meals, clothing and toiletries
inclusive.
Referral to other NGO’s , organisations and specialised fields.
RECRUITMENT
In recruiting members according to Toseland and Rivas(2014:172) the worker
considers sources from which potential members can be identified and referred to
the group.
Group members will be recruited from the organisation’s case load with the
assistance from the contact person. Direct contact with the potential group will be
made where individual interviews will be held with each member.
CONTRACT
The group sessions will meet for eight to ten sessions.
The length of a group session will be starting on 11H00 and ending up on 12H30.
ENVIROMENT
The group session will take place at Beth-Shan premises at the garden place.
Material to be used will be flip chart cocky, papers, pens for each member, stickers
and evaluation forms.

The facilitator will arrange with company nearby the shelter to sponsor the group
work.
