Writing an Abstract
An abstract is a short, academic summary of your research paper. It is usually about 120 to 150 words long,
considering one single paragraph. A well-written abstract has four essential components:
1) Problem statement: Where did you do your stay? What does that company do? What problem,
situation, need, or lack did you observe at the company/ office? What is the purpose of the study
(hypothesis, overall questions, or objective)?
2) Procedure/ Methods / Approach: What actions did you take to solve/ help/ improve/ correct the
problem/ situation stated? What sources of information/ norms/ laws/ articles did you take into
consideration? (e. g. analysis of the financial statements, miscellaneous tax, Value Added Tax (IVA),
Income Tax (ISR), any Federation Fiscal Code articles, etc.)
3) Results / Findings / Products: How did your work help to improve the area/ company/ office? What
were the benefits for the area/ company/ office? What’s different now that you put your knowledge/
work/ proposal into practice?
4) Conclusion / Implications: And what were your final conclusions? How did your work/ support during
your stay help to solve the problem in Step 1 above? (Don’t forget to add the Keywords at the end, in a
separate line below).
