Week 6

This document summarizes the topics covered and important points from Week 6 of the Dynamics ENGI 24859 course. It reviews the midterm exam and covers plane motion, including basic rules of relative motion, the rolling wheel introduction, and instantaneous centers. Specific problems were solved in class related to rectilinear motion, projectiles, angular and linear motion, and velocities of rotating wheels. Notes remind students to review all materials for the midterm scheduled on February 21 and to bring the required tools like pencils, erasers, and calculators.

Dynamics ENGI 24859

Week 6
Summary

Ch.
Topic covered Details in class Comments, important points
Ref
Midterm review • Various problems all
• Introduction
• Relative motion – basic rules
Plane motion • Plane motion 12
• Rolling wheel – basic introduction
• Instantaneous centers

Selection of Problems solved/reviewed during Week 6 of the lab/lecture. Note: additional problems may have
been solved. Students should also refer to their in-class notes
Question
Comment
Ch./ref etc.
• Rectilinear motion
• Projectile motion
Midterm review
• Angular and linear motion
• Normal and tangential acceleration
• Total acceleration on a rotating wheel
In-class activity
• Velocity diagram

Solved at various angles, noting at  = 0, Vc = Vb and therefore Vc/b or Vb/c

= 0. The problem was solved with various angle to prove this statement

Noting this problem should be broken into tow parts, solved for ABC then
solve for CBD. Noting the velocity of B is common for all linkages

Noting CDE can be omitted (makes no difference to the solution at this

level)

Solved various problems using instantaneous centers of rotation

Notes:
• Review all posted materials
• The midterm test is scheduled during the usual lecture time and location, Tuesday,
February 21, 1:00 pm-3:00 pm in A301
• Seating will be arranged at the beginning of the test
• There is to be no sharing of tools during the test, please ensure you have the following
items
o Erase, pencils, pens, and highlighters. Students should not complete questions using red
ink. However, you can use red for identifying the x component of a vector
o Calculator
o Geometry set
