Introduction to F1 and M1 visa
F-1 Student Visa
The F-1 Visa (Academic Student) allows you to enter the United States as a full-time student
at an accredited college, university, seminary, conservatory, academic high school,elementary
school, or other academic institution or in a language training program. You must be enrolled
in a program or course of study that culminates in a degree, diploma, orcertificate and your
school must be authorized by the U.S. government to accept international students.
M-1 Student Visa
The M-1 visa (Vocational Student) category includes students in vocational or other
nonacademic programs, other than language training.

Top 5 mistakes during visa interview:


1. Inconsistent information:
To avoid this, always provide accurate information to Aemers. We will submit themto
the US Embassy.

2. Arguing with consulate officer:

Never argue with the consulate officer.

3. Poor communication skills:

Keep your communication brief and to the point.

4. Having too much communication:

For example: talking too much.

5. Appearing to be nervous: Be confident.

A) About yourself
1. Why are you going to the US?
2. Have you ever refused a US visa or any other visa? If yes, reason?
3. What will you specialize in for your degree?

4. What will be your major?
5. Where did you go to school now?
6. What do you do for a living?
7. Why not MS why Ph. D (or why not MS, why BSc?)
8. Why faculty, why not the industry as they will pay you more money?
9. Reason for choosing this field/course/degree?
10. Have MS already why another one? If you have MS already.
11. Immigration petition related questions (if mentioned on DS160)
12. What are you doing at present?
13. What have you done last 1 year? Might ask about your work experience.
14. Details about yourself, research interest, etc. (including your educational
background passing year/date undergrad university or college name)
15. Have you used a different birth date/name?
16. Why are you planning to continue your education?
17. Can you not continue your education in your home country?
18. Is this your first time flying abroad (or to the US)? Have you ever been to the USA?
If yes, when? Why? Did you visit any other country? Where and why?
19. Can you show me your sponsor's passport? Tell me something about your sponsor's
company/business? How many employees work under his supervision? Company
size, address, location.
20. Why did you choose the United States of America? Why not choose Canada or
Australia?
21. What's your plan after graduation?
B) Questions about the choice of the university:
22. How many colleges did you apply to?
23. Why this university/college? Why this specific university over any other
universities?
24. How many schools did you get admitted to? How many schools rejected you?
25. Do you know your professors at that university?
26. What are your professors’ names?
27. What city/state is your school located in? Why this city/state? Some related
questions about that.
C. Questions about the financial status:
28. How do you plan to fund the entire duration of your education?
29. How much does your school cost? How will you meet these expenses? Who is going
to pay your deficit?
30. What is your sponsor’s occupation? Type of business/ /Sponsor's Monthly and
Yearly income; sometimes, traveling history.
31. Do you have any brothers/sisters? If yes, what they are doing!
32. Have you got any student loans?
33. How do you plan on repaying your loan?
34. Will you come back home during vacations/ holidays?
35. Do you have relatives or friends currently in the US?
D. Questions about the academic capability:
36. What are your test scores (GRE, GMAT, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo etc)?

A. General questions
44. What is your name?
45. What Visa are you applying for?
46. What is the name of your spouse?
47. What does your spouse do in the USA?
48. Can I see your spouse’s passport/visa/I-20?
49. When are you planning to go to the USA? Have you made any specific travel
arrangements?
B. Marriage related questions
50. When did you get married?
51. Was it an arranged marriage? How did you both meet? Did you know your spouse
before marriage?
52. Do you have your marriage album/photos?
53. Can I see your marriage certificate?
54. Have you brought the invitation cards with you?
55. Why did you not go with your spouse (in case your husband leaves before you)?
C. Your spouse’s study/work/finance related questions:
56. What’s your spouse majoring in? What’s his/her research area? What’s the topic of
his/her research?
57. When is your spouse planning to finish his studies? At which stage is he now?
58. What would your spouse do after finishing his studies?
59. Where did your spouse work, in Bangladesh or in the USA?
60. Why did your spouse leave his/her job?
61. (If you say, your spouse wants to come back to Bangladesh) Why doesn't your
spouse want to work in the USA? Would he/she not work there? He/she can
continue his research/work there; why does she/he want to come back to
Bangladesh?
62. What did your spouse study in Bangladesh? Where (which school/university) did
your spouse do his Undergraduate/Graduation in Bangladesh?
63. How would you fund yourself there? Who would bear your expenses there? Is your
husband going to bear your expenses there?
64. Do you have financial documents? Have you brought your spouse’s bank
statements or any other supporting documents?
D. Your study and work-related questions:
65. What are you studying? Have you finished your studies? Are you done now?

66. Do you plan on studying in the USA? if your answer “NO” then the visa office may
ask: Why not?
67. Do you want to work there? (You cannot work on F2 visa. You can work on J2 visa)
68. Did you work in Bangladesh?
69. Why not? You have a good education and can get a good job; why do you not want
to work?
70. How would you spend your time there?
E. Your parents/in-laws/siblings/relatives related questions:
71. What do your parents-in-law do in Bangladesh?
72. If your parents-in-law are in business, what kind of business?
73. If your father-in-law is in business, the visa office may ask that who would take
care of the business as your husband (if only one son) is in the USA?
74. Does your spouse have any siblings in the USA? what do they do? Where do they
live/ work in the USA?
75. Do they have Green Card? What kind of Visa do they have? if married, what do
their spouses do?
76. Do they want to come to Bangladesh?
77. Do you have any of your relatives in the US?
78. Do you have any brothers/sisters? What do they do? Are they planning to go to the
US?
79. What do your parents do?

Preparedness
You will receive adequate training from your LMS on preparing the answers to these
questions. Your job will be practicing them over and over so that you do not make any
mistake in the interview.
