can express our thoughts and feelings, but have you ever paused for a moment and thought about what type
of communicator are you? Have you ever asked yourself how effective you are in speaking your thoughts and
ideas? Are you even aware of your way of communicating?
In this module, you will learn the different concepts that might help you develop effective oral
communication skills. In this, you will be given opportunities to observe and discover the various
characteristics of an effective oral communication. You will also learn some strategies that might give you the
pleasure and strength to communicate confidently and effectively. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s start

EFFECTIVE ORAL COMMUNICATION: CHARACTERISTICS AND STRATEGIES
Oral Communication creates messages that stimulate listeners’ meanings that bring about the
desired change in their understanding or opinions. Whether the oral communication is formal and informal,
through conversation or public speaking, it must be done effectively and strategically. Effective oral
communication can be achieved from a good conversation to a good speech.
Conversation is a type of oral communication where there is an exchange of ideas and options
between two or more people that involve or invite shared interactions.
