Lesson Idea
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
✓ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
for presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products
of learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like
this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
The activity planned for students will be introduced by me presenting the e book to my
students as a whole class. Students will be made aware of their goal by me explaining to
them that they will create their own book. Students will do this through working on the
software PowerPoint. I will be walking around the classroom to see the students’ progress on
this assignment. I can help them navigate the software if needed but I want them to work on
their own as much as they can. I will provide them with feedback on their work as they are
doing it. The lesson will be concluded after all students have presented their own eBooks.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Using PowerPoint will keep students engaged in the assignment because they will be
navigating it on their own as best as they can. They get to make some decisions through the
assignment which will also help with engagement because it is something they have chosen
themselves. Collaboration comes into play when students are viewing their peers’ work and
learning from them. To make sure students are staying on task, they will have a time limit to
work on their project. They will know what is required from the assignment by using my own
eBook to reference as an example.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): I believe this activity supports the learning experience
for students because it provides visual and audio aspects into it. It helps visual learners by
adding images into the book. For those who learn best through examples, the students will
have my eBook to guide them. For those who prefer learning through audio, they have my
voice added onto the eBook to reference. I can also help students record themselves
speaking to add to their version. This allows different representation of how students learn
when it comes to the UDL framework.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I feel this eBook activity will help refresh students on what they have learned from the
science unit. They will be teaching their own version of a lesson to their peers to show their
knowledge. This activity enhances collaboration, engagement, and independence all in one
all while meeting appropriate standards for technology and academically.
