Full-Length Wiper Plug

(FLWP)
Weatherford's full-length wiper plug is used to displace cement (or spacer fluid)
through the liner and drillpipe ID for liners that have an ID comparable to that of
the drillpipe on which the liner is being run. FLWPs can be run as either single-
or dual-plug systems, as required.
When two FLWPs are run as a dual-plug system, the first one is released
ahead of the cement. When it reaches the landing collar, the first FLWP travels
straight through the plug catcher and lands in a special catcher sleeve. The
second FLWP is released behind the cement. When it reaches the landing
collar, the second FLWP lands and latches into the collar, and pressure can
then be applied as required.

FLWP
Second Plug
Applications
— Cemented liners that have an ID comparable to that of the drillpipe on which
they are being run

Features, Advantages and Benefits

— Because the FLWP wipes both liner and drillpipe, it reduces the need for a
separate wiper plug at the bottom of the running tools. This advantage
reduces the amount of aluminum that must be drilled out, saving rig time. It
also reduces the investment in tools and equipment. FLWP
First Plug
— Several features help simplify or accelerate drill-out, saving rig time and
associated costs:
Anti-rotation devices prevent the FLWP from rotating during drill-out of the
landing collar.
The FLWP is made of aluminum and elastomeric materials, making it PDC
drillable.
— HNBR fins are highly resistant to wear, allowing the FLWP to effectively wipe
both liner and drillpipe.
— When run as a dual-plug system, the FLWP provides a mechanical barrier
ahead of and behind the cement, minimizing the extent of potential
contamination of the cement.

Drillpipe Wiper Plug (DWP)

Weatherford's drillpipe wiper plug (DWP) is used to wipe the inside of drillpipe
and running tools behind the cement, providing a mechanical barrier between the
cement and spacer fluid. The DWP is then used to launch the LWP liner wiper
plug.
The DWP is launched from the cementing head and is displaced through the
drillpipe and running tools by cement. When the DWP reaches the LWP at the
bottom of the running tool string, the DWP latches into the plug and seals.
Differential pressure across the DWP launches it. When the DWP latches into the
LWP, it is rotationally locked by a latch ring.

Applications
— Wiping any drillpipe in conjunction with an LWP wiper plug
— Wiping drillpipe before it is pulled out of the hole

Features, Advantages and Benefits

— Composed entirely of PDC-drillable materials (aluminum and HNBR), the DWP allows trouble-free drill-
out, helping to conserve rig time.
— Latch ring rotationally locks the DWP to the wiper plug. This feature facilitates drill-out, reducing rig time.
— Seal ring provides a positive bi-directional seal with the LWP when the DWP latches in, allowing for a
positive shear indication when the plug is released and enabling Weatherford wiper plugs to withstand a
high differential pressure when bumped.
— Fins and O-rings are made of peroxide-cured HNBR as standard, which is suitable for most well
conditions.

Specifications

Options
— HNBR fins and O-rings are standard, but fins and O-rings of other materials are available on request.
— Parker Flex Plug (RedKey) style wiper fins are available on request.

Liner Wiper Plug (LWP)

Weatherford’s liner wiper plug (LWP) is used to displace cement through
the ID of a liner. The LWP is compatible with Weatherford’s hydraulic
landing collar (HLC) and drillable landing collar (DLC). It has an extremely
good record of displacing cement and bumping in the landing collar and is
an ideal choice for any application in which a ball seat in the wiper plug is
not required or a dual-plug system is not wanted.
The LWP is shear-pinned to the bottom of running tools. The drillpipe dart
(DWP) is released behind the cement. When it reaches the LWP, the DWP
latches and seals into it. Differential pressure across the LWP launches it.
The LWP is displaced through the liner, acting as a mechanical barrier
behind the cement. It then lands and latches in the landing collar, and
pressure can be applied as required.

Applications
Any cemented liner application in which a ball seat is not
required in the wiper plug or a four-plug system is not wanted.

Features, Advantages and Benefits

l One LWP can wipe liners of the same size but varying weights. This design provides
operational flexibility.
l Several features help simplify or accelerate drill-out, saving rig time:
_
Anti-rotation devices prevent the LWP and DWP from rotating during drill-out of the
landing collar.
_
The LWP is made of aluminum and elastomeric materials, making it PDC drillable.
l The design of the LWP is robust. The sturdy body can withstand high bump pressures when it
is latched in either the DLC or the HLC landing collar.

Drillpipe Dart (DPD)

Weatherford's drillpipe dart (DPD) is used to wipe the inside of drillpipe and
running tools, either behind or in front of cement, providing a mechanical barrier
between the cement and spacer fluid or between the mud and the cement. The
DPD can then be used to launch a compatible wiper plug.
The DPD is launched from the cementing head and displaced through the
drillpipe and running tools by either cement or spacer fluid. When the DPD
reaches the wiper plug at the bottom of the running tool string, it latches into the
plug and seals. Differential pressure across the plug launches the plug. When the
DPD is in the wiper plug, it is rotationally locked by a latch ring.

Applications
— Wiping drillpipe in conjunction with a single-wiper plug (SWP), dual-wiper plug
(DWP), or combination wiper plug (CWP)
— Wiping drillpipe before it is pulled out of the hole

Features, Advantages and Benefits

— Composed entirely of PDC-drillable materials (aluminum and HNBR), the DPD allows trouble-free
drill-out, helping to conserve rig time.
— Latch ring rotationally locks the DPD to the wiper plug. This feature facilitates drill-out, reducing rig time.
— Seal ring provides a positive bi-directional seal with the wiper plug when the DPD latches in, allowing for
a positive shear indication when the plug is released and enabling Weatherford wiper plugs to withstand
a high differential pressure when bumped.
— Fins and O-rings are made of peroxide-cured HNBR as standard, which is suitable for most well
conditions.
— Modular design provides operational flexibility. With this feature, the DPD can be customized to suit the
drillpipe used in the application.

DARTS – SELECTION AND USAGE CRITERIA

The standard configuration for all darts is now as follows: Nose then three Fins / Cups, in simple terms: Nose x Big Fin x Small Fin x Big Fin. The
standard material for the Fins / Cups is HNBR-80 (Parker mat’l: MX9508) and for the O-rings it is WE-206 (HNBR-90). This has been proven by
actual component testing, calculations and geometrical iterations. The assembled Dart should look like the detail shown below:

CAUTION
However, the following rules must be adhered to when considering selection of the fins and the usage of
the dart:
• The un-modified 6 5/8” & 5” Fins / Cups are not to be used for 5-1/2” or smaller SWP’s.
• The un-modified 6 5/8” & 5” Fins / Cups are not to be used on the lead dart for any DWP’s.
• The un-modified 6 5/8” & 5” Fins / Cups are not to be used as the lead Fin / Cup for any assembly.
• All crossovers, pup joints, drill pipe, and any other components through which the dart(s) will travel must be drifted (2.54 inches).
• Do not use the darts in any transitions that have more than a 1 inch (25.4mm) difference of inside diameters unless the transition angle is
30 degrees or less from the longitudinal axis.
• Transitions of 45 degrees or lower are acceptable when the changes on inside diameters are less than 1 inch (25.4mm).
• There should also be no square shoulders in any transitions involving 0.5” (12.7mm) or larger changes on inside diameter.
(Below is a list of all the individual fins or cups and the sizes of which are available.)

Mk5 SWP Single Wiper Plug

with Integral Ball Seat
The SWP wiper plug is Weatherford's premium single wiper plug
for displacement of cement through the ID of a liner. A major
advantage of the SWP is its integral ball seat, used to activate
hydraulic liner hangers and running tools. Typically the SWP is used
in conjunction with Weatherford's jointed system;therefore, the plug
does not move in relation to the liner until the SWP is launched.
The drillpipe dart (DPD) is released behind the cement. When it
reaches the SWP, the DPD latches and seals into the inner body
of the SWP. Differential pressure across the SWP then launches
it from the plug adaptor. The SWP is displaced through the liner,
acting as a mechanical barrier behind the cement. It then lands
and latches in the landing collar, and pressure can be applied
as required.

Applications
l Any liner for which a single-wiper plug is required

Features, Advantages and Benefits

l Integral ball seat is more reliable than landing collar ball seats,
minimizing the potential for nonproductive time.
l When the integral ball seat is sheared, the pressure dissipates
in the liner volume, greatly reducing the possibility of any
formation damage related to hydraulic shock.
l High-strength design makes the SWP capable of withstanding
high bump pressure.
l Several features help simplify or accelerate drill-out,
saving rig time:
_
Anti-rotation devices prevent the SWP and DPD from rotating
during drill-out of the landing collar.
_
The SWP is made of aluminum and elastomeric materials,
making it PDC drillable.

Mk5 SWP Single Wiper Plug with Integral Ball Seat

Features, Advantages and Benefits (continued)

l The SWP is locked to the running tool string by a set of profiled dogs rather than shear screws,
reducing the risk of premature release and associated nonproductive time.
l Fin and backup ring configuration makes the HNBR fins capable of withstanding high differential
pressure, enabling them to effectively wipe the liner ID and act as the lower packoff.

Specifications
l Contact an authorized Weatherford representative.

Options
— The SWP is available without the ball seat.
— A five-fin SWP is also available, further enhancing the already impressive wiping ability of the plug.

Dual-Wiper Plug (DWP)

with Integral Ball Seat
Weatherford's premium dual-wiper plug (DWP) is used to displace
cement and spacer fluid through the liner ID. A major advantage of the
DWP is its integral ball seat, used to activate hydraulic liner hangers and
running tools. Typically the DWP is used in conjunction with
Weatherford's jointed system; therefore, the plugs do not move in
relation to the liner until they are launched.
The lower plug on the DWP is launched by releasing the first drillpipe
dart (DPD) in front of the cement. The DPD latches and seals into the
inner sleeve of the lower plug, and differential pressure across the DWP
launches the lower plug. After the plug has landed and latched into the
landing collar, the DPD is expelled into the landing collar, allowing
cement displacement to resume.
The upper plug on the DWP is launched by releasing the second DPD
behind the cement. The DPD latches and seals into the inner sleeve of
the upper plug, and differential pressure across the DWP launches the
upper plug. Upon reaching the landing collar, the plug lands and latches
into the collar, and pressure can be applied as required.

Applications
— Any liner for which a dual-liner-wiper system is required

Features, Advantages and Benefits

— Integral ball seat is more reliable than landing collar ball seats,
minimizing the potential for nonproductive time.
— When the integral ball seat is blown, the pressure dissipates in the liner
volume, greatly reducing the possibility of formation damage related to
hydraulic shock.
— High-strength construction withstands high bump pressures.
— The DWP provides a mechanical barrier in front of and behind the
cement, minimizing the extent of potential contamination of the cement.

Combination Wiper Plug

(CWP) with Integral Ball Seat
Weatherford's combination wiper plug (CWP) is used to displace cement through
the ID of liners that consist of multiple sizes of casing. The CWP comes with an
integral ball seat, which is used to activate hydraulic liner hangers and running
tools. The CWP is always run with a swab-cup style lower packoff above it and is
usually used in conjunction with Weatherford's jointed system.
The drillpipe dart (DPD) is released behind the cement. When it reaches the
CWP, the DPD latches and seals into the inner body of the CWP. Differential
pressure across the CWP then launches it from the plug adaptor. The CWP is
displaced through the liner, acting as a mechanical barrier behind the cement. It
then lands and latches in the landing collar, and pressure can be applied as
required.

Applications
— Cemented liners that use more than one size of liner pipe

Features, Advantages and Benefits

— Integral ball seat is more reliable than conventional landing collar ball seats,
minimizing the potential for nonproductive time.
— When the integral ball seat is sheared, the pressure dissipates in the liner
volume, greatly reducing the possibility of formation damage related to
hydraulic shock.
— High-strength design makes the CWP capable of withstanding high bump
pressures.
— Several features help simplify or accelerate drill-out, saving rig time:
Anti-rotation devices prevent the CWP and DPD from rotating during drill-out
of the landing collar.
The CWP is made of aluminum and elastomeric materials, making it PDC
drillable.

Sub-Surface Release
(SSR™) Plug System

Cementing
Products
SSR™ Plug System

Weatherford's enlarged-bore subsurface-release (SSR) plug system features integral

pressure equalizers*, which are retrieved with the casing or liner hanger running tools.
With the SSR system, there are two options for releasing a 3 1/2-in. ball while
maintaining an unrestricted circulation: 1) Drop a 2-in. ball through the system, or 2)
catch and retain two 1 1/2- to 2-in. trip balls.

Applications:
Weatherford's SSR plugs are run with subsea casing or liner hanger systems to
separate fluids while cementing. We particularly recommend running the enlarged-bore
SSR system with auto-fill float equipment to reduce surge pressures in pressure-
sensitive formations and close-tolerance annuli. The system is further enhanced when
run with Weatherford's enlarged-bore auto-fill equipment and diverter tools.

Features:
— Top and bottom plug systems for 9 5/8-in. and larger casing have a 2.1-in. ID
without the ball release or capture options. Large-bore versions have a 2.4-in. ID.
— Integral pressure equalizer system is retrieved with the running tool.
— Polyurethane plug fins offer superior abrasion resistance and wiping action.
— Standard drillpipe darts can be pumped through a 2.54-in. drift diameter while the
large-bore drillpipe darts can be pumped through a 2.875-in diameter.
— System is PDC-drillable with WiperLok® non-rotating system.
— Two large 2.0-in. (50-mm) diameter bottom-plug burst disks minimize the risk of
plugging with solids or debris.
— Built-in disposable swivel equalizer eliminates the cost of renting this equipment.
— Bottom plug features an emergency by-pass system.

SSR™ Plug System

Optional Ball Release System

Weatherford's enlarged-bore SSR plug system may be run with an optional ball release
system, which is threaded into the lower end of the bottom plug. The ball release
system is typically used in subsea casing or liner applications where auto-fill float
equipment is run to reduce surge pressure. In these applications, the system allows
the operator to circulate the casing at any time before releasing the trip ball to convert
the auto-fill equipment. Auto-fill float equipment usually includes an auto-fill tube, which
should have the largest possible opening to allow wellbore fluids and debris to pass
into the casing rather than surge into the formation. Auto-fill tubes often have a seat on
which a conversion ball lands; pressure is increased to eject the tube from the valve,
allowing the valve to close. Conversion seat and auto-fill diameters are usually limited
by equipment in the running string, which may prevent the passage of larger trip balls
to convert the float equipment from auto-fill to conventional.
Use of the ball release system maximizes the size of the auto-fill diameter by allowing
release of a large ball in the casing or liner, using a smaller ball (which can pass
through the restrictions in the running string) pumped from the surface.

Optional Ball Catcher System

The SSR plug system may also be run with an optional ball catcher system, which is
threaded into the lower end of the bottom plug. Used primarily on liners, the 2.015-in.
(51.2-mm) ball catcher system retains two 1.50- to 2.00-in. (38.1- to 50.8-mm) balls
from the tool setting operation(s) above the plugs.

Color Coding of Plug Set

The top and bottom darts used to activate
and launch the plugs vary from one type
of SSR system to another. A color-code
system helps ensure use of the proper
darts with each plug set: green for SSR
systems (Model SRMB) and red for large-
bore systems (Model SRLB). The colored
sticker included with each system
provides detailed product specifications,
including the color codes for the
appropriate crossover, dart tags, and top
and bottom dart receivers.

Drillout Options
Our SSR plug systems are manufactured
with non-rotating, interlocking profiles,
which are compatible with Weatherford's
WiperLok® non-rotating float equipment.
The plugs can also be modified for
compatibility with other float equipment.
