SECTION-A
Answer all questions in this section.
1. Answer the following.
(a) For the circuit shown in Fig. 1 (a), draw its dual circuit. In case the 1 H inductor is
not present, how the dual circuit would be revised?

3. You have been sent to inspect the electrical connections of a faulty production line in a
factory. After consulting with the on-site engineer, you have come up with the following
schematic of the original circuit which 1s delivering the current to the load attached between
the terminals a and b (see Fig. 3). Note that both the controlled sources in the schematic
are dependent on Vab, the voltage difierence between the terminals a and b. The controlled
voltage source has a gain of 2, and the controlled current source has a gain of 0.1 Siemens
ens.
Vou also noticed that the 502 resistor has been worn out, while the other resistors

(0) You have been asked to test the fauty cireuit and find the faults. Since all the other
resistors except the 50N one are brand new. you surmised that the 50S2 resistor
is faulty. However, when you measured voltage drop across it, you found that tne
change in voltage drop is actually negligible. Clearly, the gains of the controlled
sources have also changed. So, you decided to find the Norton's equivalent
now
for the faulty circuit. You measured the short-circuit current and found that it has
increased by 5%, and you used a variable resistor to test the load that maximizes the
power delivery. You found that this new load is now 169. From the above mentioned
information, determine the new gains in the controlled sources as well as the new
resistance of the worn-out 502 resisfor.

4. You and your friend are competing against each other in trying to find the location of fault
in a circuit. The circuit contains three independent sources, of which only one is a voltage
source, The circuit also contains a current-controlled current source (CCCS), with gain 3,
The original circuit schematic is as shown below (see Fig. 4). If you are only allowed to
measure the current Is in the schematic, determine which components in the circuit would
have to be faulty, for lp to not be affected. Explain your answer. 4+2]= G

5. Let us consider a series RLC OCut with a DC voltage source of 10 V Connected to it

via a switch, K1. The switch is urned on at t = 0, and a current i(t) fiows through the

circuit. Given that R =102, L H, and C = 10 jF. Now answer the following.

we have a time-varying voltage source v(t) = 100 sin 377t, and the switch Ki is
connected in parallel to the resistor R, instead of being in series. Note that the switch
is closed at t = 0. What will be the current flowing through the circuit, immediately
after Ki is closed? What will be the voltage across the capacitor at that time? Derive
an expression for the current i(t).
