Homonyms – Words that have the same form but different meanings. Write and Right, Hit and
Heat further more Cell and Sell. (NB: In simpler terms these are words that are said or spelled
the same way but differ in meaning)

Synonyms – Words that have the same meaning as another word or nearly the same meaning.
E.g. Huge, Big and Large are synonyms.

Homophones – Words pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. Hole and
whole, by and buy further more tall and toe.
Antonyms – The opposite of another word. True and false are antonyms, as well as off and on.

Compounding – The putting together of two or more words to form a new word e.g. under and
ground to form Underground.

Clipping – The shortening of a longer word, often reducing it to one syllable. Telephone (phone),
Mathematics (Math), Robot (Bot)

Prefixes – a letter or a group of letters added at the beginning of a word in order to form a
different word. Possible (Impossible), Able (Unable),

Suffixes - a letter or of a group of letters added at the end a word which makes a new word.

E.g. I love to write papers I would write one every day if I had the time.

Sentence 1: I love to write papers.

Sentence 2: I would write one every day it i had the time.

A comma splice is when two Complete Sentences are joined with just a comma
