Improving the skill level of Grade 11 STEM students in Practical Research 1 through

Project DATA: A Narrative Report

The research study titled “Improving the skills level of Grade 11- STEM Students in Practical
Research 1 through the use of Project DATA” was a creative study that incorporated unique instructional
strategies to improve students’ skills level and overall understanding of the subject matter. The usage of
project DATA was one of this study’s distinctive features. The researchers understood that in order for
students to comprehend how to use the concepts they have learned in class to address real-world
situations, they must develop practical research skills. As a result, the study made use of Project DATA to
give students the opportunity to practice their research techniques in real- world settings. This method
represented a creative departure from conventional teaching methods that concentrate on memorization
and passive information. STEM education plays a crucial role in preparing students for the rapidly
advancing technological environment. Research skills are an essential component of STEM education as
they foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Project DATA, utilizing the Arduino
platform, was designed to enhance research skills by providing hands-on experience and practical
applications of concepts learned in STEM courses. This narrative report aims to provide a thorough
overview of the study that was conducted to enhance the research competency of Grade 11 STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students using Project DATA (Digital Arduino
Training Activities). This also includes the group leader's evaluations and ratings of each member's
performance in fulfilling their assigned tasks as well as their contributions to the study's creation and
practical activities. The report also tries to assess the group members' behavior and attitudes throughout
the implementation of the project.

The participants were divided up into groups of six or seven, and a leader was chosen for each
group to serve as their mentor during the project. Several digital Arduino training exercises, involving
circuit design, programming, data gathering, and analysis, were part of the project. The aim for each
group was to create and carry out a research project utilizing Arduino. Throughout the implementation of
Project DATA, the group members displayed excellent teamwork, effective communication, and
coordination. Most of the members actively participated in group discussions, shared responsibilities, and
supported one another in troubleshooting technical challenges. In terms of behavior, group members
maintained a positive attitude throughout the project, exhibiting enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong desire
to learn. They actively sought feedback, embraced constructive criticism, and demonstrated a growth
mindset.
Taduran, Angelica was graded 10 out of 10, because of her positive behavior that helps
accomplished the assigned tasks from making manuscript from chapter 1-5 and in her cooperative
behavior in doing research programs and in hardware circuit design. She also participates in every group
activities from exercise 1-5 and in wiring the Arduino board. The next member is Baudin, Mercy, was
also graded 10 out of 10, because of her accomplished assigned tasks from making manuscript from
chapter 1, 2, 3 and 5. She is also cooperative in doing exercises such as exercise 1-5 and participates in
group activities. Nacario, Zarina Mae was graded 9 out of 10. She accomplished assigned tasks, but she
only submits it to the leader 1 day or 2 days before the assigned date of the deadline. She cooperates and
participates in any group activities from doing the activity 1-5. She help motivates the group members in
doing exercises and in practical wirings and connections. And her willingness to complete and finish the
research study. Secillano, Shine was graded 7 out of 10, because of her cooperativeness in making the
manuscript in chapter 1 and 2. She completed the tasks assigned by her leader, but she only submits it 2
days before the deadline. She is mostly cooperative in doing activities but sometimes, she didn’t pay
attention to what is her leader saying. Nevertheless, she was a member who participates in every group
activities and taking documentations in every activity the group has done. The next member is Bona,
Kim was graded 8 out of 10 because of his accomplished tasks that her leader assigned to him. He’s able
to submit his part in making the manuscript from chapter 1, 2, 3 and 5 before the deadline. Though
sometimes he didn’t listen attentively to what his leader is saying. But despite of being not attentively, he
then cooperates and participates in every group activities from doing exercise 1-5 and helps in making the
device. The last member is Genio, Edward was graded 8 out of 10. He is able to accomplished assigned
tasks but submits it the day before the deadline. Although he submits his part the day before the deadline,
he is able to cope the tasks and manage to ask how he should help to make the research done before the
deadline. In his practical findings, he is good at coding and programming in Arduino IDE which makes
the task easier for the group in terms of programming. He also cooperates and sometimes participates in
group activities and in doing hardware circuit design.

The behavior, attitude, and collaboration of the group members in the study on improving the
skill level of Grade 11 STEM students through Project DATA were excellent. Their dedication, positive
attitudes, and willingness to collaborate contributed significantly to the success of the study. The effective
leadership of Formalejo, with the help of the participating members, including Taduran, Baudin, Nacario,
Bona, Genio, and Secillano, collectively ensured the achievement of research objectives. The group's
collaborative efforts fostered a supportive learning environment, enabling Grade 11 STEM students to
enhance their research skills through Digital Arduino Training Activities.
