COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and techniques to collect, analyze, and
model data so that they can make informed and better business decisions under uncertainty. At the
introductory level, students will learn various concepts and applications of business statistics which are
useful for managerial decision-making. Topics covered include data collection, descriptive statistics,
probability theory, sampling design, statistical inference, analysis of variance and regression analysis.

the Blackboard. It is your responsibility to check this website frequently.
EXAM

There are two exams, including the midterm and the non-cumulative final. All exams are closed-book and
closed-note. No laptop computer or smart device is allowed. You must take exams at your scheduled time
slot, i.e., 9/26 (Tue) for midterm and 10/26 (Thu) for final. Make-up exams are not given. Any concern
about exam grade must be addressed within a week from when it is posted. Any request after the one-
week period will be discarded.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is mandatory. Attendance will be checked every class. No lateness will be considered. Get
notes from a classmate if you cannot attend. You are expected to bring your textbook and calculator with
you to every class meeting as they will often be used in class. If you absolutely must leave class early,
please let me know prior to the beginning of class. Try to minimize these occurrences as they are
distracting to your classmates.

COURSE POLICIES

 Any grading-related issues must be addressed within one week after the grades are posted. Any
grading-related inquiries or requests after the one-week period will not be considered.
 Students are expected to respect the right of other students to receive an education, and therefore,
should avoid any activity that would distract the class.
 All students are expected to treat others and the instructor with respect. Classroom misbehavior such
as disruptive talking, chronic avoidance of work, interfering with teaching activities, harassing
classmates, verbal insults, rudeness to teacher, and inappropriate use of laptop and/or smartphone
(e.g., SNS, text messaging, gaming, video watching and etc.) will be penalized as reflected in class
participation/contribution grade.

 If you are a student with special needs or under special circumstances, or if you have emergency
medical information to share with me, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible. No
accommodations can be implemented retroactively.
