Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 5 – Review

1. Activity Description

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:
Identify the segmental and suprasegmental characteristics that are involved in
English sound production.

The activity consists of:

Step 1:
design a presentation, using Genially where you have to add the following items:
-Choose five consonant sounds, and name the manner, place of articulation, and
articulators involved in their sound production. Also, you have to tell if this is voiced
or voiceless. Also, give two examples of words per consonant sound. Finally, add
images to show the articulation of the sounds.
-Choose two diphthongs and create a diagram where you have to mark the
movement of those sounds.
-Define what is a content word and give two examples.
-Define what is a function word and give two examples.
-Define falling intonation and write two sentences as examples.
-Define raising intonation and write two sentences as examples.

Step 2:
Write a reflection establishing a comparative relation between phonetics and
phonology, this reflection must be written following the next specifications:
-Use a least 350 words.
-Use APA style for citations and references.
-Explain the differences and similarities between phonetics and phonology.

-The importance of knowing about the segmental and suprasegmental features of
English.
-Answer the following question: Do you think is it important to teach phonetics and
phonology in the early stages of the learning process?

Step 3:
The final document must be organized according to the APA style. Also, you have to
include bibliographic references. Finally, when you submit the final document in the
Evaluation environment, it will be sent automatically to Turnitin, where you will see
the percentage of reliability of your text.

- Download the Syllabus of the course to actively read.
- Go to the discussion forum for the task and get familiar with your collaborative
group.
- Participate in the forum to get feedback from e-mates and tutors.
