IV. PROCEDURES

A. Today is such a great day to start our school year right. Agree?
Alright! Who among you here have tried making or going into an
investigation?
Elicit Who are fond of watching daily reports or news on TV?
What particular TV show are you watching from those news? How
about in the other channel?
May I know the main reason why you keep watching those shows?
B. Engage Our early discussion is actually in line with our lesson for the whole
week. It all deals with scientific Investigation. Let’s get deeper into this.

What is science by the way? How about the word investigation?

C. Scientific investigation is a process by which a scientist or even an
ordinary person like you creates or plans a step-by-step scientific
method. This method is used to identify the main issue and come up
with a concrete or visual result.

Another question, who among you here have encountered problems?

May I know those problems you’ve encountered and how did you solve
Explore
  it?
Before you applied your solutions, were there hesitations in your minds
that it might go wrong in the end?

Looking into the brighter side, hesitations or doubts are sometimes

useful because we tend to think of other better solutions to our
problems and what’s best is to make a step-by-step plan.
D. Scientific investigations can be observational — for
example, observing a cell under a microscope and recording
detailed descriptions. Other scientific investigations are experimental
— for example, treating a cell with a drug while recording changes
Explain
in the behavior of the cell.

Read out the following names of headings for scientific investigation.

Investigations, observation, fair, conclusion, control
E. Scientific method is like a road map that you follow to get to those
destinations. It is the process by which science is carried out. It is a
step-by-step procedure to help you solve problems and answer
questions.

Steps in Scientific Method

1. Making/make observations.
- We need to use our 5 senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing,
touch)
2. Come up with a question.
- Formulate a question that either a questions or problems
that need to be solve. You know the basic WH questions.
3. Develop a hypothesis.
Elaborate - An educated guess.
  4. Conduct an experiment.
- Testing the hypothesis through experimentation.
5. Record and analyze the results.
- Make sure to be detailed to documenting your results. You
may use graphs or tables to analyze the results.
6. Draw conclusions.
- The summary or conclusions to your experiment if it is
rejected or not.

Take note that there are lots of solutions to every problem we

encounter but beyond these solutions take prayer as the very step in
the process. It can be used to find the answer on your queries or
problems in your life.
Consider yourself as a scientist, match the corresponding description
for each step given. You may write the letter of your answer in your
paper.
