Public Awareness Program for
Rooppur NPP
Bangladesh has a clear understanding about the IAEA guidelines
and international requirements for the implementation of NPP in a
safe, secured and cost effective manner. In this regard, Bangladesh
Atomic Energy Commission has taken the following Public
Awareness Program.
1. Information Center on Nuclear Energy at Dhaka City
2. Multi-purpose Information Center at Rooppur NPP site
3. Joint Communication Strategy for Rooppur NPP
4. A documentary video film describing the history of
Rooppur NPP and safety features of chosen reactor
technology in order to make our country people aware.
Nuclear Information Center
A Information Centre on Nuclear Energy established and made functional at
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre, Dhaka since 01
October 2013.
- The centre is equipped by panorama 3-D projection, computer graphics and
animation, stereo sound and interactive consoles
.

Nuclear Energy
Multi-purpose Information Center at RNPP Site
 Decision has been made to establish a Multi-Purpose
Information Centre around Rooppur NPP site. Site for the
center has been selected and it will be established and
functional soon.
 Public Information Centre already in operation at Rooppur site
Main goals:
 Distribute general knowledge and information about nuclear

power to all stakeholders;
 Increase popularity of Nuclear Science and Technology
education for younger generation;
Motivate learning and creative activities of school students;
Demonstrate most recent scientific and technological
achievements to professional bodies and all stakeholders.

Joint Communication Strategy for RNPP
 “Bangladesh Nuclear Power Communication Strategy (2015-2021)” was
developed in collaboration with JSC ASE.
 Communication plan for year 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 2019 and 2020 developed
and is being implemented.

Goals and Objectives of Communication Strategy
 Raise the awareness on the need of nuclear energy, nuclear
technologies and Rooppur NPP construction project among the
general public with special emphasis to the Pabna District
population;
 Increase the public acceptance of the nuclear energy and national
nuclear program in Bangladesh;
 Further raise awareness on Rooppur NPP construction project
implementing with the latest technologies among the country people;
 Raise the awareness of the international NPP safety and security
standards for nuclear infrastructure.
Target Audiences at the Local level:
1. General public including the population living next to Rooppur NPP;
2. Expert community including scientists, journalists and NGOs,
professors/teachers, school children and university students.
Target audiences at the National level:

1. General public including Dhaka population;
2. Scientists, expert community, Journalists, professors/teachers, school
children and university students.
3. Business community, NGOs, business partners and trade associations;

 BSc in Nuclear Engineering (4 years duration) course has been started in DU

and MIST. DU also offers MSc in same fields.

Special Exhibitions were conducted in Atomic Energy Centre,
Dhaka on 4-5 April, 2018
Bangla New Year's Celebration and ‘Ananda Rally’ with
students of Rooppur High School, Ishwardi, Pabna and
local people.
Leaflets, brochures, project name printed on umbrellas and T-shirts were
distributed among the participants. Cultural program and documentary
video on nuclear safety, peaceful use of nuclear technology and progress
of project were shown.

Seminars on ‘Peaceful use of Nuclear Energy’ and quiz

Rooppur NPP representatives participated in the Science Fair
held in Seven Divisions of Bangladesh
Eight Bangladeshi children participated in "International Smart
Holiday-2018" held in Russian Federation. This event is organized
by JSC ASE each year where Bangladeshi Children are regularly
participating.
Ten local representatives of Rooppur site area visited
Novovoronezh-II, the reference plant of Rooppur NPP for practical
experience on nuclear technology previous year. Each year two
journalists of Rooppur site area are also visiting the reference plant.
Celebration of local school children of Rooppur nuclear power
plant’s ‘First Concrete Pouring’ with Flash Mob on 30
November 2017
Rooppur High School organized a Flash Mob “I LOVE ROOPPUR” to raise

awareness among the local people about the project. More than 300 children
wearing T-shirts and caps of Bangladesh’s flag color - green and red formed
a live figure ‘I LOVE ROOPPUR’.
A Documentary Video Show on Rooppur NPP was arranged for
the local people using mobile vehicle on 30 November 2017.

To provide authentic information about nuclear energy to the local
people, educate them and encourage their participation by giving their
opinions on various issues of nuclear energy, a Facebook page
(https://www.facebook.com/nuclearpowerbd?ref=hl), were run with
posting of various information, articles, photos on nuclear energy,
Rosatom and Rooppur NPP.
