Josiah Genao 1.01 Exploring Life Lab Report
Instructions: Use the lab scenario on the last page of your 1.01
lesson to complete the Practice Writing a Lab Report activity. Please
fill in this lab report with the appropriate information and data from the lab scenario.
Write your answers in the boxes. Note:. DO NOT submit your guided notes.
Title:
Include the name of the lab and your name
Lab Scenario
Objective:
Located near the beginning of your lab scenario. Describes or summarizes the purpose
of the experiment…you should be able to get a feel for what the experiment is going to
be about.
Hypothesis:
What was John’s hypothesis in the experiment? The hypothesis should make a
prediction of the outcome of his experiment and should include an explanation of why
he expected that outcome.
John predicted that the organic fertilizer would make the plants grow taller.
Variables:
Independent- what you change, Dependent- what you measure (data), Controlled- stays the same
Controlled Variable(s) Pot 2 was the one growing more than the other 2 pots
He used three pots, three of the same type of seed, soil, organic fertilizer, chemical fertilizer,
water, and a ruler.
Procedures:
The procedures are listed in Practice Writing a Lab Report Activity. You do not need to
include them here.
Part 1: Record the data (provided in the lab scenario) in the table below. If you were
conducting an experiment, you would record your data in a table.
Height of Plant
2 0 0 0
3 0 0 0
4 0 0 0
5 0 0.5 0
6 0 1.3 0
7 0 1.9 0.3
8 0 2.2 1.6
9 0 4.5 3.2
Part 2: Using your data from Part 1, create a graph (on paper or digital) that represents
the height of each plant over the ten days. Click HERE to easily make a digital graph
using google sheets. Input your data and the graph will be created for you. Insert an
image of your graph in the box below [Hint: A bar graph or line graph would be the
best option to analyze this data. Remember to give your graph a title.]
Conclusion:
Be sure to address all 4 of the following bullet points as a paragraph summary in the
conclusion of your lab report. Type your summary in the box below.
John's theory was off base since the test did not appear back
The chemical fertilizer is one that worked best
The pot with no fertilizer since it had a negative affect on the plants development
Comparable tests can be performed with distinctive sorts of plants, fertilizers and
natural conditions to assist think about the impacts of fertilizers on plant
development
An explore is solid in case it can be rehashed and the comes about are the
same. Unwavering quality could be a term utilized in science to rate the quality
of inquiry about.
2. During research, why is it important to use peer reviewed evidence (from other
scientists) when collecting background information during a scientific
investigation? (Review the interactive on pg 5 in the lesson to help with this)
It is important that you research what other scientists have already observed and
discovered. Previous investigations into your topic may lead you to new questions
that need answers.
*Submit this document on your 1.01 assignment. One easy way to do this with a
google doc is to go to “File” in the upper left corner, scroll down to “Download”,
and choose “PDF Document” from the arrow menu. You can then drag the PDF
into the student file box on the assignment.
