Visual Reasoning 1 2

This document contains instructions and examples for visual reasoning exercises involving series completion. Participants are shown sets of problem figures that change in a consistent order and must select the answer figure that logically continues the series. The first 5 questions involve 4 problem figures with a drop line and selecting the answer with the next position in the series. Questions 6-10 have a problem figure series with a question mark and participants must choose the answer figure that fits in the missing space to maintain the pattern.

Visual Reasoning – 1 (Introduction to Visual Reasoning): Home Exercise

Type – 1

Directions for questions 1 to 5: In these questions, there are two sets of figures. The Problem Figures
and the Answer Figures. The four Problem Figures make a series. That means they change from left to
right in a specific order. The question is, if the figures continue to change in the same order, what should be
the third figure, so that the series is completed?

Study the following problem based on series.

P rob lem F igu res A nsw er Figure s

(a ) (b ) (c) (d )
In the example above, as you go from left to right, you find the line across the Problem Figures falling
downward. The question is, if the line continues to fall, what will be its third position? The answer would be:
it would fall further and be more inclined than the second figure and less inclined than the fourth figure.
Also, further observe that the line has become horizontal in the fifth figure and hence, the series is maintained.

Now, look at the Answer Figures. You find that Answer Figure (d) follows the same logic. Therefore, the
answer is (d).

Now, solve the following questions.

PROBLEM FIGURES ANSWER FIGURES

1.

(a ) (b ) (c) (d )

2.

(a ) (b ) (c) (d )

3.

Directions for questions 6 to 10: In each of the following questions there are two sets of figures. The
figures given above are “Problem Figures” and those given under them are “Answer Figures”. A series is
established if one of the answer figures is placed in place of question mark. You have to select that option
from the answer figures which will continue the series given in the “Problem Figure” and mark it as the
answer.
