TITLE OF REPORT: INTRODUCTION TO COOPERATIVE EDUCATION IN
CHANGING WORLD

Based on the reporter’s discussion about the INTRODUCTION TO
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION IN CHANGING WORLD, the educational system plays a
critical role on shaping the skills, values and learning of students most especially on the
fast-transitioning workplace. I believe that the actual purpose of this, to some extent, is
to prepare the students for their upcoming future, covering all the aspects and subjects
of the Cooperative Education Program and not restricting the availability of the
resources or the social class they belong.
We undergo this Cooperative Education Program in order to get great jobs and
start successful careers that is aligned on our chosen paths. Coop Educ also enriches
young minds and opens the door to new people, places and ways of thinking compared
to a classroom-based teaching.
Overall, the topics was presented well. The presentation was well outlined and
the overview of the topics was discussed and expounded well in details.

QUESTION 1.1: WHAT IS COOPERATIVE EDUCATION TO YOU?
Cooperative Education is a structured method of combining classroom-based
education with practical work experience. It thus provide academic credit for structured
job experience and is taking on new importance in helping young people to make the
school-to-work transition, service learning and experimental learning initiatives.
Through Cooperative Education or practicum, the interns are exposed on what really is
the scenario inside the workplace and how a certain company or agency functions.
QUESTION 1.2: HOW DOES COOPERATIVE EDUCATION FUNCTION AS AN

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM?
Cooperative Education functions as internship when the time invested in each
program are brief work experience that last for about one semester and most are
completed over the summer. Many college students participate in several
internships throughout their time in school to gain experience in different positions.
Co-ops usually last for a longer duration with your responsibilities increasing as your
education progresses. The responsibilities you will be given during an internship
program can vary but often include several entry-level tasks. Regardless of the level
of responsibility you are given in an internship program, you will likely spend a good
amount of your time in the program shadowing senior-level professionals who can
teach you new things and help you develop the skills most important to their role.
QUESTION 1.3: STATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATION IN
THE PHILIPPINES.
I could say that there was a major development on the Cooperative Education in
the Philippines today compared to when I was in College. Back then, there is no
designated department that focuses on the students’ On-the-Job training. The
Class/Program adviser serves as the coordinators as well considering that there are a
bunch of students on a certain program. As a result, not all interns are properly
monitored. Interns are opt to find their own host establishment and were not assisted
on the preparation of their requirements compared today that there is already a system
that could really provide assistance on the students for them to find a company that is
really aligned on the courses they are taking. Thus, they could really focus on
enhancing their work talents and capabilities.
QUESTION 1.4: WHAT ARE SOME ELEMENTS THAT INFLUENCE THE

DEVELOPMENT OF COOPERATIVE EDUCATION?
A. THE WORK
The number one driver of the intern experience is meaningful project
work. Human Resource managers should discuss available project work and
identify tasks interns will be responsible for. They should provide additional
opportunities and ideas for participation, such as marketing efforts to round out
their project experience. By the end, our goal is to ensure our interns have an
opportunity to see the impact their contributions have made on a project or duty.
For example, by participating in a client meeting or seeing a finished client
deliverable.
B. FEEDBACK
Interns should view their time an opportunity to learn and practice new
skills, which means setting genuine expectations for their performance and
providing real-time feedback. The host establishment’s performance
management approach is based on employee-initiated conversations, and
support interns so they can participate in the workplace’ in the same way as the
full-time employees.
C. SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES
To help the interns build connections, the host establishments should
create opportunities for them to get to know each other and full-time staff in their
practice and across the firm. They shouldn’t be excluded on company’s activities
such as annual events including Volunteer Committee outings, welcome and
farewell lunches, and other office-based activities.
D. NETWORKING
In addition to meeting each other socially, interns should be allowed to
have a better understanding of the work and expertise of the firm such as lunch-
and-learn panels to share project insights and case examples. The interns also
be given the chance to meet officials and executives so that they would be
encouraged to seek out full-time staff in their office and practice.

E. TRAINING
Formal and informal training should also be provided throughout the
practicum or internship to help advance their skills in topics including Excel and
Quality Management. Additionally, they should also have the opportunity to build
analytical skills through Tech Lab series for these resources help interns tackle
real time problems with resources at their fingertips.
F. FIRM CONNECTION
Interns will be bringing their experiences back to school to share with
others. At the end of the program, career center activities should be an expanded
investment that is supported by our hiring managers, and has met with
appreciation from interns, many return for full-time.
