With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:
Individually:
1. Watch the VLO you find in the references from unit one called “Designing English
language teaching materials”, there you have to develop the pre-activity and
learning activities proposed in the VLO. Make sure you save screenshots from
the development of the activities proposed in the VLO.
2. Read the following documents proposed in the contents of unit 1, that are related
to the creation of materials based on communicative skills:
a) What are the factors that need to be considered when developing materials for
the use of language in context?

b) What are the different types of listening activities that can be used in English
language teaching? Give at least 3 types, and explain.
c) How can teachers ensure that their speaking activities are engaging and
motivating for learners of different ages and abilities?
d) How can teachers develop writing materials that are sensitive to the cultural
backgrounds of their learners?
4. Do not forget to include in-text citations and references when responding to the
questions.
5. You need to publish the answers in the collaborative forum, at least three weeks
before the due date.
7. In the template provided, you are going to design five activities to make the
language learners practice their communicative skills. The activities from
the workshop must be directed to face-to-face environments.
a) Choose one of the communicative topics proposed in the following chart and
post your selection in the collaborative forum, to avoid repetition.

b) Once you have chosen the topic, download the template-workshop, include
your name, the communicative topic, and state an objective that must be
coherent with it. Then, design five activities related to the topic meeting the
requirements described in the following chart:

d) Consider that all the exercises must be directed to your students, so the
instructions should be clear and brief, do not forget to include the references
using APA style in the workshop.
e) Once you have designed the workshop, you need to share it in the
collaborative environment, this must be done at least two weeks before the
due date, to receive feedback from your tutor and peers.
f) Do not forget to delete the instructions included in the template, before the
submission.
Collaborative work:
a. A cover page with the members of the group who participated in the
designing of the flipbook.
d. Take into account that your flipbook must be visually attractive to the visitor,
so you need to include images, visuals, pictures, and else, to make your
book appealing to the reader.
e. Do not forget to leave your flipbook public so your readers will have access
to its content.

2. The final group’s document will be a PDF document in which you include the
following:
a. A cover page with the members who participated actively in the designing of
the flipbook
b. A condensed and last version of the individual answers given to the questions
from the readings. In the collaborative forum, you can discuss and agree
with your group on the most complete ones to be included in the final
document.
Note: Have in mind this activity is going to be checked by Turnitin the university tool
to avoid plagiarism, then you should reference the author, write in-text citations, and
paraphrase. See APA 07th edition to check how to do the in-text citations.
In the Initial Information Environment, you must: observe the course presentation,
check the course agenda, and the date of the synchronous meetings by
webconferences, and attention through Skype.
In the Learning Environment, you must: have access to the course syllabus, download
the guide, and check the links of the documents you have to consider for the
development of the activity.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must: Submit the final document, which meets
the requirements of the guide.
● All members of the group must participate with their contributions to the
development of the activity.
● In each group, a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product
in the environment indicated by the teacher.
● Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.
● Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.
Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions that have been defined.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must meet
the APA Format Guide.

In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found on the virtual
campus.
