    THE PROBLEM: TWO- STOREY DORMITORY FOR GIRLS

    The Proposed Dormitory Building is classified as Group B – Residential, Dormitory.


    Group B is a multiple dwelling units including boarding or lodging houses, dormitories and
    other similar building each of which accommodates more than 10 persons. It is a residence
    halls where most students live and stay and usually operated by the college or university or
    privately. The proposed dormitory building will be operated privately by the owner that will be
    restricted to single sex occupancy preferably female.
    Dormitory is a room of many beds where students live. It is a building used as living and
    sleeping quarters by college students (Wikipedia 2009).

    At present the City of Sorsogon is experiencing the increasing demand for the students
    where to stay during school days. The high transportation fare and time consuming to travel
    from house to school contributes to the problem of the students and parents. The security
    and safety of the students while travelling home especially during night classes pose a
    danger. Some dormitory buildings do not conform to the minimum requirements of the
    Revised National Building Code of the Philippines and the Revised Fire Code of the
    Philippines that the safety and security of the boarders is at stake. A dormitory building for
    the girls is needed to answer this growing problem.

    THE PURPOSE

    The need to provide a place for some students to stay during school days is one of the
    growing needs in the City of Sorsogon. A Dormitory building is envisioned to lessen this
    problem. Some students need a place to rent a room/ space with the required facilities and
    spaces. A small sleeping room designed to be safe, clean and with sanitary facilities. At
    vacation time, vacant rooms were utilized as transient sleeping space for some female who
    attend seminars, training or some special occasions.

    The Two-storey dormitory for girls can accommodate more than 30 students. It is provided
    with electrical and water supply supported with fire exit stair, fire alarm, emergency lights, 3
    solar panels and emergency electric generator.

    THE SITE

    The site is located walking distance away from the school campuses. It is bounded by a 15
    meters wide service road on front and residential lots on the 3 sides. A setback requirement
    of 5.0 meters on front and 3.5 meters on the rear and 2.0m on two sides should be observed.
    Firewall is optional.

    BUILDING REQUIREMENTS:
    a. Building height should be a 2- storey with roof deck as 3rd level
    b. Minimum of 6 rooms per level;
    c. The caretaker will be at the ground floor with toilet and bath
    d. 3 car Parking spaces
    e. Main stair and a fire escape stair
    f. Living. Dining, kitchen and laundry area with a common toilet.
    g. Every sleeping room (12 rooms) shall be provided with individual toilet and bath.
    Maximum of 2 beds (2decker) and minimum of 1single bed.

    DRAWING REQUIREMENTS:
    Site Development Plan scale: 1: 200 m
    Floor Plans scale: 1: 100 m
    2 Sections scale 1:100 m
    4 Elevations scale: 1:100 m
    2 Perspective (exterior and interior)
    20”x 30” tracing paper with the required title block
