of forest and wildlife and describe various strategies
including protected areas: Biosphere reserve,
national parks and wildlife sanctuaries

Home assignment:
Research and write the names of
nine categories in the IUCN Red
List.
Flora and fauna
Differentiate
between
threatened,
vulnerable,
endangered
and extinct
species
Protected Areas
List the flora and fauna exclusive
to a particular region to describe
the term endemic species and
infer the pros and cons of their
ex situ conservation.
Compare biosphere
reserves, national parks and
sanctuaries.
Ex- situ
conservation
Ex-situ conservation is a way of
saving endangered species by
moving them away from their
natural habitats
PROJECT TIGER

Project Tiger was

launched by the
government to
protect the tigers in
the country. The
objective of this
project was to
ensure the survival
and maintenance of
the tiger population
in the country.
SWBAT:
• Debate about the pros and cons of ex situ conservation of endemic species.
• Make a digital comparative chart of biosphere reserves, national parks and
sanctuaries.
Make a digital
comparative
chart of criteria:
Type of plants/animals conserved.
biosphere Size range

reserves, Boundaries fixed or not fixed by legislation

Human interference allowed or not,if yes
national parks then to what extent?
Tourism permitted or not
and
sanctuaries.

IUCN Classification
Red Data Book

• Red Data Book is the source book which keeps a record of all the endangered animals and plants.
• Red Data Book is maintained internationally by an organisation.
• India also maintains Red Data Book for plants and animals found in India.
Migration
Recycling of paper

• It takes 17 full grown trees to make one tonne of paper

• A large amount of harmful chemicals used in paper making
Reforestation
• Reforestation is restocking of the destroyed forests by planting new trees.
• The planted trees should generally be of the same species which were found in that forest.
• We should plant at least as many trees as we cut.
• Reforestation can take place naturally also.
• If the deforested area is left undisturbed,
• it reestablishes itself.
• In natural reforestation there is no role of human beings
