At the end of the 50-minute discussion, the students are expected to:
1. identify the uses of imperatives using pictures;
2. differentiate imperatives from negative imperatives;
3. use imperatives correctly in giving instruction and;
4. Apply imperatives in real life.

Before we start with our new lesson for


today, let us have first a review. Who is

Yesterday, we discussed about Compound
nouns. Compound nouns are two or more
words combined to form a noun. An example
of a compound noun is blackboard.

application game that you’re playing
using your mobile phones. Today, we will
play that game!

In every chart there are four pictures, all
you need to do is to analyze the pictures
carefully if what they want to convey or
express for you to guess the word. So
class, are you ready?

Our topic for today is about Imperatives.


But before we know what imperatives
are, let us first talk about the uses of it.

COMMAND
Class, look at these pictures. What do the
pictures show?

to do something.

Class, when do we use imperatives as
command? (students answer may vary)

Everybody read. We can use imperatives to command someone
to do something.

For example:
Brush your teeth.

Can you give your own example of a

INSTRUCTION
What about these pictures? What do
these pictures show? The pictures show someone is giving
instruction on how to do something.

Very good! Now, when do we use


imperatives as instruction? We can use imperatives to instruct someone
on how to do something.

Can you give your own example of an


instruction? - Cut the fruits into four pieces.

do these pictures show? The pictures show someone asking a request.

as request? We can use imperatives to make a request by
using polite words.

WARNING

pictures? The pictures give warning to somebody.

as warning? We can use imperatives to warn someone in
danger.

also be negative?
For example:
Don’t throw your garbage in the river.

it negative? Ma’am the negative word in that sentence is
“DON’T”

Formula for Negative Imperatives
“don’t or do not + the base form of the
verb”

Do not cross the road.
Do not run into the corridor.

negative imperatives? - Do not talk when your mouth is full.
- Don’t shout in the corridor.

Now class, according to the uses of


imperatives, what are Imperatives? Imperatives give commands, instructions
requests and warnings.

Imperatives are command form of a
sentence.

Imperatives can stand alone without a


subject.
For example:
Jump into the pool.

What do you notice in the sentence? The sentence begins with a verb and has no
subject.

So class, do you now understand what
Imperatives are? Yes Ma’am!

E. APPLICATION

As you now understand what are


imperatives and the uses of it, let us have
an activity. I will show you some pictures
and try to identify whether it convey
command, instruction, request or
warning.
I also prepared four flags for each one of
you. If the picture shows command, raise
the orange flag. If it is a request, raise the
pink flag. If the picture shows instruction,
raise the green flag. And if the picture
shows warning, raise the blue flag. Are Yes Ma’am!

IV. EVALUATION

Class, I will group you into three and every group has an own task to accomplish within 15
minutes. I prepared 3 envelopes for each group and inside these envelopes are the
materials you needed and also the rubric/criteria as your guide to make your task properly.

 Group 1 will draw a map using imperatives. (From Caduang Tete to Macabebe
Town Proper)

 Group 2 will make a step by step recipe using imperatives on how to


make “Palitaw.”

 Group 3 will demonstrate a fire drill using imperatives and one of the members will
pretend to be the instructor/instructress and he/she will instruct the other
members on what to do when a person is trapped into a burning house.

Your performances will be graded accordingly using the rubric.

V. ASSIGNMENT
For our preparation for our topic tomorrow, study about Infinitive verbs.
