Topic: The Eight Planets
I. Objectives/Competencies:
a. Differentiate the eight planets based on their appearance and distance from the sun.
b. Describe each characteristic of each planet.
c. Appreciate the value of having planets, especially the Earth through citing ways on how to
maintain its cleanliness.
d. Explain why earth is unique among other planets.
II. Materials Needed:
Instructional: Teacher made materials
Montessori Material (Wooden Planet)
Activities: Illustration board, colored papers, glue, gluepot, and q – tips.
III. Procedures/Methodology
A. Motivation
The teacher will play the Eight Planet song.

B. Presentation/Lesson Content
 The Teacher will get the materials material she will use in presenting the lesson about
The Eight Planets. (Wooden Planets)
 The teacher will lay down the cloth on the floor and teacher will start introducing the sun.
 The teacher will show the wooden planets one by one, wooden planet first then the name
and tell the function. The teacher will introduce first the Sun sensorially and after that
teacher will put down the sun on the cloth and put the label at the same time, the teacher
will repeat the process on the following materials.
 The teacher will do the Three period lesson.

The Eight Planets and the Sun


 Sun- The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System.
 Mercury- is the second smallest of the planets.
 Venus- is the hottest planet in our solar system.
 Earth- is the only place in the known universe confirmed to host life.
 Mars- the fourth planet from the sun, Mars, the Red Planet.

 Jupiter- the largest planet in our solar system.


 Saturn- the second largest planet and it is a gas giant.
 Uranus- looks like a featureless bluish-green disk.
 Neptune- the blue planet it cannot be seen without a telescope.

 Then the teacher will tell the children that as we learn the eight planets and how we can
take care of our planet earth and by explaining to them how important our planet earth
and teacher will ask “Children did you love our earth?”
 The teacher will ask “Did you love living here in our planet which is the planet earth?”
 The teacher will ask “What do you think we need to do to protect our planet earth?”
 The teacher will tell the children the value of taking care of our planet earth as it is
important because we live here. And it should be compared to our home we need to take
care of our home for us to have a good and clean environment. The failure of not being
able to protect our home has a big impact on our surroundings.

C. Activity
 The child will choose their favorite planet and they will draw, also they will color it.

D. Transition
 The teacher will lay down eight flannels and each flannel have a wooden planet on it. The
Child will jump on the planet that the teacher will say.
