Okay, good. Nowadays, it is truly a difficult

task to determine whether or not the

open to widespread misinformation, media
manipulation and propagandizing. Thus, it is

important to exercise being a critical and

3. Understand different forms of fake news.
Satirical news uses comedy to promote its
underlying objective to influence people in

trends, or events. Clickbaits are usually
headlines on the Internet that would make
people want to click the links that will lead to

that satire is the hardest to pull off yet the
most effective if done well. Satire (pang-
uuyam in Filipino) is the use of humor to
show that someone or something is foolish,
weak, or bad. It often ridicules a person,
government, or society by way of subtle and
funny lines. Being the subject of good satire
is like being the loser in high school, you
have no idea that you're already the butt of
the joke.

Satirical pieces are commentaries that

should be taken seriously because they point
out national issues that we should be
concerned about. But not too serious that
you believe what they say literally.

But how exactly can you tell when something

is satire? Who can forget the Jinggoy
Estrada hoax of 2013? One of the satire sites
posted the headline "Jinggoy Estrada
arrested after trying to smuggle money inside
his breasts to U.S." What was obviously a
false headline turned into a social media

person that is curious in everything that you
reads, you are vulnerable in these kinds of
links. There are links that once you click it,
your account can be hacked. Let us be
careful in the different links that we are

the candidates.

to know if the information is true. Social

Filipino teen dies after binge-playing

Mobile Legends
By Androel Encarnation

A Filipino teenager gamer died May 31

after spending too much time on playing
Mobile Legends and forgetting to eat.
Johnreymar, 18, of General Trias City
kept failing to address his bodily needs, such
as food and rest, as he was fixated with the
popular mobile multiplayer game. According
to Cavite Connect on Facebook, his
excessively long gaming sessions ultimately
led to complications in his lungs. He was
scolded by his parents and bullied by his
friends.
Johnreymar was rushed to the hospital on
May 24, but he was returned home as his
family could not afford the hospital expenses
and that the hospital was already
overcrowded with COVID-19 patients. He
died a week later.
If not death, video game addiction can
lead to paralysis and other life-altering

President Ferdinand Marcos’s Claim to

the War on Drugs
Drugs are the greatest enemy of every individual and the society. Since then, it is the unsolved
problem that led to different issues concerning it. It was not hidden from all that our recent president
Rodrigo Duterte had a decision that was against the moral law of a human.
According to Phelim Kine, “Welcome to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘war on drugs.’
The details of the killings of those four people provide grisly context for the hard data of the more
than 7,000 suspected drug users and drug dealers killed by police and “unidentified gunmen” since
Duterte took office on June 30, 2016. They also challenge the Duterte government’s persistent denial
that police are committing extrajudicial killings. That death toll also doesn’t include the victims that
Duterte calls “collateral damage”— children shot dead in anti-drug operations. The extraordinary
brutality of the Duterte drug war is undeniable. Many of the victims are found in back alleys or street
corners wrapped in packing tape, their bodies bullet-ridden or bearing stab wounds and other signs of
torture. Duterte justifies his anti-drug campaign as a life-or-death struggle against a “drug menace”
that he claims threatens to transform the Philippines into a “narco-state.” He is untroubled by the fact
that the statistics he brandishes to back up this hyperbole are flawed, exaggerated, or fabricated.”
The war on drugs became a social and moral issue when the recent president Rodrigo Duterte,
started the ‘extrajudicial killings”.
President Ferdinand Marcos, soon after taking office on June 30, President Marcos stated he
would continue the “war against drugs” initiated by his predecessor. But this “war on drugs” will be a

“slightly different” anti-drug campaign by focusing on the rehabilitation of drug users. In his interview
with the vlogger and celebrity, Toni Gonzaga aired over All TV, he stated that “The war on drugs will
continue but we have to do it in a different way.” He added, “"Even as we speak, there (is) a working
group putting together...They knew war on drugs. We are looking more for the upstream, upstream of
the problem, the prevention. Let us teach the children: 'Do not go there. You won't achieve anything.
Most of those who went there were either jailed or are now dead. So why would you want that?”.
Building rehabilitation is his way to prevent the spreading of drugs to every individual,
especially to the young ones. "In fact, right now, we are trying to formulate how, what is the latest,
and what’s the best way for the rehabilitation," the president said.
Can President Marcos achieve his goal? Can drugs be wiped out? Can young ones be free
from drug addiction?
