Classification Of System of linear equations
A system of equations

𝑎11 𝑥1 + 𝑎12 𝑥2 +. . . +𝑎1𝑛 𝑥𝑛 = 𝑏1

𝑎21 𝑥1 + 𝑎22 𝑥2 +. .. . +𝑎2𝑛 𝑥𝑛 = 𝑏2
.
𝑎𝑚1 𝑥1 + 𝑎𝑚2 𝑥2 +. . . +𝑎𝑚𝑛 𝑥𝑛 = 𝑏𝑚

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑒 𝑤𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑥 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚 𝑎𝑠

𝑥1 𝑏1
𝑥2 𝑏2
𝐴𝑥 = 𝑏, 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝐴 = 𝑎𝑖𝑗 ,𝑥 = . ,𝑏 =
𝑚×𝑛 .
𝑥𝑛 𝑏𝑚
If 𝑏 = 0, then the system is called homogeneous.

If 𝑏 ≠ 0, then the system is called nonhomogeneous.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐦: Homogeneous system of linear equation is always consistent

as one of the solution is 𝑥1 = 𝑥2 = ⋯ = 𝑥𝑛 = 0 called as trivial solution.

Question is when homogeneous system will have a non−trivial solution ?

Consider the homogeneous system 𝐴𝑥 = 0
