Chapter 1
Description
Oil Rig Design Competition
In this competition, participants will design a drilling fluid that will be used in the drilling
process. The design drilling fluid must be able to solve all drilling problem that occur in
rock formation, beside several factor must be taken into account such as time
efficiency, health, safety, and environmental (HSSE), and etc.
Smart Competition
This competition aims to hone and test participant’s knowledge in the fields of drilling,
petroleum production, geology, and geothermal. The question that will be given will not
only cover theory, but there will be also question related to the application in the field
Innovation in optimizing the use of energy resource in the middle of the race where
participants will design oil and gas industry equipment that will be used in the
processes in the industry. The essay have to consider applicable standards & codes,
engineering drawing, calculation, etc.
This competition aims to test the participant’s ability to present, learn and solve
problems by providing innovative solution for energy security in the future, which then
will be presented in the form of written paper and creative poster.
Description
Geothermal Case Study Competition
This competition aims to test the participant’s ability to design a geothermal power
plant that is safe, efficient, and economical without neglecting several factor such as
surface facility, environmental impact, socio-cultural impact. Those factor must be
considered in the form of implementation in designing power plant model
The goal of this competition is to challenge participant’s skill in planning and designing
safe, efficient, and economic plant. This competition trigger the participants to think,
and implement all of the aspect needed to design large-scale industry plant.
This competition aim to accommodate its participant to solve business problem in oil
and gas industry. This competition will trigger participant’s new ideas in solving
business cases.
Chapter 2
General Rules
Eligibelity :
▪ DERRICK 2023 extends a warm welcome to undergraduate students from various universities worldwide.
▪ Students who are subject to academic sanctions are not permitted to take part in this competition. Each
team must be comprised of members from the same school/university/institute, regardless of their year,
major, or batch.
▪ Individuals are not allowed to register or participate in different teams or multiple competitions within
DERRICK 2023.
▪ All participants must complete the registration form and provide a payment receipt.
▪ All participants are expected to comply with the rules and regulations established by the committee.
▪ Failure to comply with the rules may lead to point deductions or even complete disqualification from
DERRICK 2023.
▪ The organizing committee of DERRICK 2023 reserves the right to request administrative documents from
participants.
Communication
▪ All interactions, including conversations, presentations, written exchanges, and official documents, will be
carried out in the English language.
▪ For any queries, doubts, or clarifications regarding the rules, regulations, or any other matters related to
the DERRICK 2023 competition, participants can directly approach the respective competition
coordinators.
Registration
• Registration for each specific competition can be completed through the provided link.
• Full payment is required for all transactions.
• No refunds will be issued once the fees have been paid in full.
Chapter 3
Oil Rig Design Competition
General Rules
1. DERRICK 2023 Oil Rig Design Competition will be held offline in PEM Akamigas Cepu
2. DERRICK 2023 Oil Rig Design Competition participants must be undergraduate students
3. Each university can register a maximum of 2 (two) teams with each team consist of a minimum of 4
(four) members or a maximum of 5 (five) members.
4. Each member of the team can be considered a different major and must come from the same university.
Changes in the member of the team after being registered is not allowed for any reasons
5. Every member of the team is only allowed joining in one team.
6. The case will be issued on the 9th of July 2023 and will be sent to each team leader’s email
7. Each team must send a blueprint of the Oil Rig Design. Only 6 teams will be selected. The announcment
will be announced on the official account of DERRICK 2023 and via email from DERRICK 2023 official
email.

9. All participant should attend a technical meeting, the exact date and venue will be informed by the
committee via email and/or DERRICK 2023 official account.
10. The result of the competition will be announced on awarding night
11. All rules and regulations of the DERRICK 2023 Oil Rig Design competition are subject to change, any
changes will be notified to all participant before competition.
12. All decisions made by the judges are absolute and not disputable
13. Failure to obey the rules, format, or late submission may receive a point deduction or disqualification.
Competition Format :
Blueprint Format
1. The blueprint must be in English ang PDF format.
2. The blueprint includes dimensions, a brief explanation of innovation & features, and a budget plan for
your Oil Rig Model.
3. Participant have to submit the blueprint before July 30th 2023 at 23.59 WIB (GMT +7) the deadline along
with the registration form to [email protected] with the name of the file same with the email
subject : UNIVERSITY_TEAM NAME_ORDC_BLUEPRINT_DERRICK2023.
Judging Criteria
1. PRESENTATION (20%)
How team present result of project report, the score will be based on the way team perform the
presentation.
2. INNOVATION & CREATIVITY (15%)
The innovation of Oil Rig must be able to solve the given problem, it can reasonable to be applied event
if it something new (have specification & relatable) and it become a plus value.
3. DETAIL MODEL (5%)
Completeness & detail of equipment in an Oil Rig, components, placement, and neatness of the Rig
Model.
4. PROJECT REPORT (10%)
Content detail, completeness, creativity, and engineering sesnse of the Oil Rig Model.
5. FIELD ANALYSIS (5%)
Knowledge of oil field data, case, and sustainability with the Rig Design.
6. PLATFORM ANALYSIS (20%)
Knowledge of marine and construction factor by the Rig Design of the case.
7. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS (5%)
Economic calculation details per day offered.
8. Q&A (20%)
How team do to explain the answer clearly and give a direct answer.

Drilling Fluid Design Competition
General Rules
1. DERRICK 2023 Drilling Fluid Design Competition will be held offline in PEM Akamigas Cepu
2. DERRICK 2023 Drilling Fluid Design Competition participants must be undergraduate students

6. DERRICK 2023 International Drilling Fluid Design Competition consists the preliminary round and final
round. The preliminary round is essay selection, and the final round is the final report and presentation.
7. The case will be issued on the 9th of July 2023 and will be sent to each team leader’s email
8. Every team must submit their “Final Summary” (The best solutions answer for the given case) with a PDF
form file named as follows :

13. The verbal communication, written documentation, and the competition will conduct in English including
the final summary and the presentation.
14. The judges’s decision is absolute and cannot be contested.
15. The competition rules are subject to change anytime at any condition due to an official decision. Any
changes in rules and agenda will be announced to the team.
Competition Format
1. The top 7 selected essay will be informed by the committee via email and DERRICK 2023 official
account.
2. The top 7 selected essay will be allowed to proceed to the final round and need to be developed in a
Final Summary and Presentation.
3. Every team is required to present the best result for the given case.
4. Each team is given a maximum of 5 minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to do a presentation and 45 minutes
for Q&A session.
5. The presentation session will be closed.
6. Tardiness in submitting the final summary or presentation will impact 10% of the total score deduction.

1. Preliminary Essay is written in formal English with format :

Time
1. Tardiness of more than 5 minutes form the scheduled time may result in penalty unless the lateness is the
fault of the tournament officials.
2. The clock used by the tournament officials is the official time and it is absolute.
3. Each participant should be in the presentation room at least 15 minutes before the presentation starts,
any reason for lateness is not accepted.
4. The presentation time will start when the participants are ready.
Judging Criteria
1. FINAL SUMMARY (60%)
The Final Summary must consist of problem identification, solution effectiveness, type of mud, mud
design, innovation, mud characteristic, performance, properties completeness, cost, impact on the
environment, hazard management, reference appropriateness, research, originality.

Smart Competition
“Enhancing Human Knowledge For Facing
Petroleum And Geothermal Industry Challenges”
General Rules
1. Each university sends a maximum of 3 teams of representatives
2. Each team consist of 3 people and must com from the same university
3. Total participants for preliminary round are 12 teams (if the registration of participants exceeds 12 teams,
there will be an online selection)
4. Correct answer are determined from the answer key and if participant’s answer are different with the
answer key, then the correct answer are determined by the judges
5. All decisions of the judges are final and disputable
6. All participants must obey the existing rules, there will penalty either deduction point or even
disqualification
7. All information related to competition activities will be informed by the LO of each team
8. All participants are expected to be able to fill out the registration form according to the existing deadline
9. All rules and regulations for DERRICK 2023 can change at any time, if there is a change, it will be
immediately informed
Competition Format
A. Online Selection
1. Online selection will be using an online platform with date and time limit
2. Each team must finish 25 short answer question which consist of topics from Drilling, Production,
Reservoir, Geology, Geophysics, Geothermal and Trivia.
3. First rule scoring will be based on online form score and the top 12 teams with the highest score will
be invited to join preliminary round in DERRICK 2023
4. Secondary rule scoring will be applied if there are three teams from the same university reach the top
12, only three (3) teams from the same university with the highest score will be chosen to join
preliminary round.
5. The top 12 announcements will be informed via email.
6. A guidebook will be provided and an invitation for online selection will be informed via email
B. Preliminary Round
1. The preliminary round will be held at PEM Akamigas Cepu
2. There will be 12 teams competing in the preliminary round
3. There are 2 types of question for each team, which consist of 20 crossword questions and 10
compulsory question
4. There will be a draw to determine who will advance first in the second format game to answer the
compulsory question
5. Score of participants in this round will be ranked and the 8 teams with highest score will advance to
the semifinals
6. The four (4) teams with the highest score will be placed in the upper bracket, and the other team will
be placed in the bottom bracket of the semifinal round
C. Semifinal Round
1. There will be 8 teams competing in the semi final round
2. There will be 20 toss-up questions and bonus question in each stage
3. Buzzers are provided to help the participans answer the question. The team that has the right to
answer toss-up questions is the fastest who press the buzzer and might answer the question when
the judges already have given the permission
4. The semi final round will be conducton in dual elimination (upper and lower bracket)
5. A team is allowed to sue the judges decision before the moderator reads the next question. No
protests are allowed outside this condition
D. Final Round
1. There will be 3 teams competing in the final round
2. The final stage has two types of game format
3. In the first game format, the finalist will play 10 compulsory questions
4. In the second game format, the finalist will play in one match (toss up betting) which consist of 15
questions
5. The required score will be accumulated as a starting point in the second stage
6. The teams with the higest score in this round will be declared as the champion
Question Format :
There will be questions consisting on Petroleum Engineering (Drilling, Production, and Reservoir),
Geology, Geophysics, Trivia, and also question about Geothermal. This question comes from published
journals and papers; books and e-books; the Schlumberger Oil Field Glossary, Petrowiki Glossary; and other
valid sources.
A. Crossword Question
• Crossword question consists of 20 questions for 15 minutes, the participants will be given
equipment such as question sheets, pencils and erasers.
• Each time will be given a place for completing the crossword question
• Each question has a value of 10 points, and if wrong 0 point
• If there will be different answer, then it will be considered wrong
B. Extra Stage
• This round is the deciding round for the teams that have the same points
• This type of round will be a toss-up round
• There will only 3 main question, the team that answer the most will be the winner, and move to the
next round
• If there is no team answer who answer all 3 main question, or both teams have the same score,
we will give 1 additional question as determination
• The question will be forwarded to other team if the other team’s answer is wrong
C. Compulsory Question
• This type of question can only be answered by the team who has the right to answer
• To answer this question, participants do not have to buzz in
• 10 compulsory questions will be provided for each team in the preliminary round and final round
• Participangs will have 5 seconds to answer after the moderator has finished reading the question
• The team will be awarded 10 points if the answer is correct and there will be no deduction point if
the answer is wrong or the team do not answer the question
D. Toss Up Question
• This type of question is available in the semi final round and final rounds
• Each time may buzz in to answer a toss up question at any time after the moderator has begun
reading the question
• If the participants buzzin in before the moderator has finished reading, the moderator will stop
reading the question and call out the team’s name who has buzzed in. Then, the participant who is
called is allowed to give their answer. If the answer is correct, there will be reward points. If the
answer is incorrect, there will be deduction points, and the moderator will continue reading the
question. Another team will have the opportunity to buzz in.
• If the moderator has finished reading the question, participant will have 5 seconds to buzz in. if the
answer is correct, there will be reward points. If the answer is incorrect, there will be deduction
points and the other teams will have the opportunity to buzz in
• An answer to toss-up question must be given within 5 seconds (15 seconds only for calculation
questions) after the moderator called out a team’s name. No answer within 5 seconds is
considered as wrong answer.
• Each correct answer to a toss up question is worth 10 points, each incorrect or incomplete answer
will be reduced by 5 points
E. Bonus Question
• A team will get one bonus question if they can answer 3 question correctly in a row
• Bonus question will be given at the semi final and final stages
• In the bonus question, there are question about pictures, calculations, or mentions
• Bonus question will be read by the moderator with certain instruction
• To answer this question, participant do not need to buzz and have 5 seconds to answer the bonus
question (10 seconds for calculation or mention question) starting when the moderator finishes
reading the questions
F. Betting Question
• The result of the compulsory points in the first final stages is used as the initial capital point for
betting questions
• Total points compulsory +100 points as betting capital
• This question will be scored according to the points wagered with the team
• If the answer is correct, the score will be added according to the number of betting points, and if
the answer is wrong the score will be deducted according to the bet points
• There are 15 toss up questions
• The minimum point bet is 15 points and the maximum bet is the maximum points owned by the
team itself
• If the accumulated points have reached the minimum bet, the team is eliminated from this round
Tournament Officials :
• Judges
Each round will have 3 judges, each judges will have the privilege to determine whether the team’s answer
is correct of false. The judge’s decision is final and cannot be sued after the moderator read the next
question
• Moderator
There will be two moderators in the preliminary, semifinal, and final rounds. Moderators will read the
questions, state the rules of the competition explicitly, and ask the judges to determine the correctness of
the team’s answer, declare score reward and deduction, and call out the team name who has the right to
answer
• Scorekeeper
There will be at least one scorekeeper for each round. The scorekeeper will keep and record the official
score for each team
• Timekeeper
A time keeper is responsible for stanby and notifiying the time limits of each stage
Time:
1. The clock used by the official game is official hours and cannot be contested
2. If possible, there will be a break of up to 5 minutes between every round to set up the next round
3. After the moderator finishes reading a question, each team has 5 seconds to answer a toss up question,
and 15 seconds to answer the bonus question and calculation questions
4. Tardiness of more than 5 minutes than the scheduled match time may result in a forfeit unless the
lateness is the fault of the tournament, or the tournament official are satified with other good causes
Equipment Requirements :
1. Pens and sheets of paper will be provided during the game to help participans answer calculation
questions
2. Textbook, cheat sheets, stationary, gadget, and other electronic devices (other than those provided by the
commitees) are prohibited
3. The buzzer is an electronic device for each team and will be provided by the committee for semi final and
final round
4. The teams that presses the buzzer first will be called by the moderator and will be allowed to answer
queations
5. Each bell will be tested at every stage to make sure it is working. If there is a buzzer break, the moderator
will cancel the current question and read the next question
Result :
1. Tournament official decision are absolute and final
2. The result of all competitions will be announced immediately following the competition. With equal score
in match, tournament official will give one additional question
3. The fastest team that buzzes in and answer correctly will receive points and automatically win the came,
but if the fastest team answer incorrectly and is given negative points, in this case the other team wins by
default
4. In the final round, points from compulsory questions, and toss up questions will be accumulated directly
to determine the winner
Rules :
1. As long as participants aswer the crossword, they will be accompanied by the committee of LO to monitor
2. Compulsory question, toss up question, and bonuses will be only read once
3. Each time that will answer the question is required to use the code “Final Answer”
4. The correct answer is determined by the answer key and if the participant’s answer is different from the
answer key, the correct answer is determined by the judges
5. All decision made by the judges are absolute
6. Moderators will only accept the first answer given by the participant
7. If a question requires multiple answer and answer only 50% (E.g 2 out of 3 available answer) it will be
considered wrong
8. The result of all competitions will be announced immediately following the competition

Mechanical Essay Competition
General Rules
1. DERRICK 2023 Mechanical Essay Competition will be held offline in PEM Akamigas Cepu
2. DERRICK 2023 Mechanical Essay Competition participants must be undergraduate students
3. Each university is allowed to send a maximum of 3 (three) teams.
4. Each team consists of members a maximum of 3 (three) members.
5. Each team consists of members from the same university and one person can only become a member of
one team.
6. Every member of the team is only allowed joining in one team.
7. DERRICK 2023 International Mechanical Essay Competition consists the preliminary round and final
round. The preliminary round is essay selection, and the final round is the final report and presentation.
8. The abstract and essay must be related to the theme of DERRICK 2023 International Mechanical Essay
Competition.
9. All submission files entered in the competition shall not have been previously published in a professional
journal or have been used in other regional or intenational competition.
10. All submission files should be written, submitted, and presented in formal english.
11. All submission files and the submission of material for each round have to follo the given format.
12. Plagiarism is not tolerated and will be disqualified at once.
13. Failure to obey the rules, format, or late submission may receive deductions of points or even
disqualification.
14. The submission of registration forms should not be past the specified deadline.
15. All participants should attend a technical meeting.
16. All decisions made by the judges are absolute and not disputable.
17. The result of the competition will be announced on DERRICK 2023 Awarding Night.
18. All participants will have access to the final score after the Awarding Night.
Competition Format :
1. DERRICK 2023 International Mechanical Essay Competition consists of a preliminary round and a final
round. The preliminary round is the abstract selection and the final round is the essay presentation.
2. Participants are required to submit an abstract related to the theme of the DERRICK 2023 International
Mechanical Essay Competition.
3. The top 10 selected abstracts will be informed by the committee via email and DERRICK 2023 Official
Account.
4. The top 5 selected abstracts will be allowed to proceed to the final round and need to be developed in a
essay, and presentation.
5. Judges may start evaluating the essay after the sumbssion date.
6. In the final round, each team will be given a total of 50 minutes, consisting of 20 minutes for a
presentation and 30 minutes for a Q&A session by judges.
7. The presentation will be a closed.
8. The order of presentation will be determined by a random pool at the technical meeting.
9. During the presentation, a timekeeper will be present to notify time checkpoints.

There will be 3 (three) judges. All judges’s decision compliance with the rules and Awarding’s of points will be

2. Moderator
The moderator will guide the entire competition, enforce the rules and regulations, and has the right to stop,
pause, and continue the presentation.
3. Timekeeper
The timekeeper will enforce and supervise time limits.
4. Operator
The operator will help the participants to operate the presentation file.

1. Tardiness of more than 5 minutes from schedule time may result in a penalty unless the lateness is the

General Rules
1. DERRICK 2023 Paper and Poster Competition will be held offline in PEM Akamigas Cepu
2. DERRICK 2023 Paper and Poster Competition participants must be undergraduate students
3. Each university is allowed to send a maximum of 3 (three) teams
4. Each team consist of a maximum of 3 (three) members
5. Each member of the team is only allowed to join one team. Changes in the member of the team after
being registered is not allowed for any reasons
6. DERRICK 2023 Paper and Poster Competition consist of the preliminary round and final round. The
preliminary round is abstract selection, and the final round is the paper presentation
7. The abstract and paper must be related to the theme of the DERRICK 2023 Paper and Poster
Competition. The abstract and paper must not differ greatly from each other
8. Plagiarism is not tolerated and will be disqualified at once
9. Failed to obey the rules, format, or late submission may receive deductions of points or even
disqualification
10. The submission of registration forms should not be past the specified deadline

6. In the Final Round, each team will be given a total of 50 minutes, consisting of 20 minutes for a
Presentation and 30 minutes for a Q&A Session by Judges

Participants who have passed the administrative selection stage will be given a pre-competition business
case and given time to work on the case according to the requested criteria and outcomes. Participants
must submit the result of the case analysis before specified deadline. The output format that must be
submitted by the participating team consist of :

2. At this stage of the competition, 7 selected teams will be awarded a second business case to work on
in time limited. The finalist teams must collect the case analysis before the deadline specified.
Participants can arrange presentation material as attractive as possible while still containing the
substance of the material from the case analysis to be presented. There is no limit to the number of
slides in the presetation material.

4. Every participants must attend the presentation day and cannot be replaced by other parties
5. Each participants should be present at Competition Venue 10 minutes before the presentation starts.
