OBE SYLLABUS IN INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE SYSTEM

A. VISION : CNSC as a premier higher education institution in the Bicol Region.


B. MISSION : The Camarines Norte State College shall provide higher and advanced studies in the fields of education, arts and sciences,
economics, health, engineering, management, finance, accounting, business and public administration, agriculture, natural
resources development and management and ladderized courses. It shall also respond to research, extension and production
services adherent to progressive leadership towards sustainable development.
C. QUALITY POLICY AND ENVIRONMENTAL : We, at Camarines Norte State College, aiming to become a Premier Higher Education Institution in the Bicol Region, are
POLICY committed with utmost care of the environment in providing excellent services in instruction, research, production and
extension that are responsive to the satisfaction of our students and other stakeholders.
To achieve these, we shall implement an internationally recognized integrated management system in our operations,
processes and services and shall:
• comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, the mandates of the College and relevant needs and
expectations of our students and other stakeholders, and the requisites of our quality and environmental management
system;
• delight our students and our stakeholders by providing value-adding experiences to become well-rounded and more
competitive future leaders in the midst of global issues;
• protect the environment and prevent pollution by optimizing the use of electricity, paper, water and other resources
and adopt safe and responsible methods of reduction, reuse, recycling and proper disposal of wastes;
• provide our employees support to grow and achieve their full potential in their respective fields, thereby sustaining a
competent, motivated and engaging workforce;
• develop and extend innovative technologies to our stakeholders contributing to the country’s sustainable
development; and
• establish objectives aimed at improving the efficiency of our operations, processes and services for our College
growth and development;
We shall make this policy an essential part of the instruction, research, extension and production services to ensure
that it continuously provides us strategic directions in improving our overall quality and environmental performance, and of
our integrated management system.

F. COURSE TITLE : Introduction to English Language System
G. COURSE DESCRIPTION : This course explains the nature and essential features of language. It provides an overview of the phonological
system, morphological system, syntactic system, and semantic system of the English language. It gives an
introduction to discourse as well as language acquisition and language change.
H. CREDIT UNITS : Three (3.0)
I. PREREQUISITE : None
J. NO. OF HOURS : 3 hours per week
K. SCHEDULE : MW/ 11:00-12:30, TTh 9:30-11:00 / 1st Semester, SY 2023-2024
L. CONSULTATION HOURS : F / 2:00-4:00 / 1st Semester, SY 2023-2024
M. INSTITUTIONAL INTENDED LEARNING : CNSC envisions a graduate having the following attributes: professional competence, critical and creative thinking skills,
OUTCOMES technical competitive skills, productivity, social and ethical responsibility, communication skills, interpersonal skills and
lifelong learning.
N. PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING : At the end of the degree, the graduates are expected to:

e. enhance literacy development and critical/creative thinking among students through the use of different types of texts; and
f. engage in English language research relevant to the school and workplace settings.

O. COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES : At the end of the course, the students will be able to: PROGRAM OUTCOMES covered

differentiated linguistics from other fields of language study.

Q. COURSE POLICIES:

A. On Attendance As stipulated in the Student Handbook, students are allowed only 20% of the total number of meetings. Thus, only a maximum of 7
ABSENCES for MW and TTH classes is allowed. Any more than that will cause for the student to be dropped from this subject.

Excused Absences
The following are acceptable reasons for excused absences:
1. serious illness;
2. illness or death of family member;
3. college-related trips or events; and
4. major religious holidays

The instructor must be informed preferably in advance regarding these types of absences, but not later than one
week after.
Make up Opportunity
For students who are excused due to college-related trips or events, the highest grade for non-major exams will be given.
However, for major exams, the student must take it no later than one week from the end of his or her official travel.
For excused students due to the other stipulated reasons, make-up quizzes will be given no later than a week after.
For missed project and assignment deadlines, the excused student will be given ample time for preparation and a different
submission date.
Verification of Absences
Students who claim to be absent because of serious illness or death of family member will be asked to provide appropriate
verification with a stamped date inclusive of the date of absence such as a Medical or Death Certificate.

1. Class Participation (recitation, quizzes, assignments, activities) -50%
2. Major Examinations (Midterm and Final Exam) -30%
3. Project (video presentation/portfolio) -20%
Total - 100%

In order to accommodate PWD’s, awareness on disability-specific needs must be raised, reasonable accommodation must be provided and
alternative evaluation methods must be given depending on the needs of the student.

D. Classroom Students are required to enroll in Google Classroom for all output submissions. Similarly, it is also the venue for uploading references, including
