I. Description of the Course:


This course will provide an understanding of the basic concepts of mathematics as applied in business. It
includes a review of the fundamental mathematics operations using decimals, fractions, percent, ratio and
proportion; mathematics concepts and skills in buying and selling, computing gross and net earnings,
overtime and business data presentation, analysis and interpretation. The use of computer and software
applications for computation and data presentation is encouraged.

II. Objectives of the Course:

The end of the course the student must:


A. Demonstrate understanding of fractions, decimals, and percent.

B. Perform the four fundamental operations namely; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division of fractions and decimals accurately.

C. Express fractions to decimals and percent forms and vice versa.

D. Illustrate how decimals and fractions can be written in terms of percent

E. Solve problems involving fractions, decimals, and percent.

F. Compare and differentiate ratio and rate.

G. Identify the different kinds of proportion and give examples for each.

H. Differentiate and illustrate markon, markdown, and markup are obtained.

I. Describe how gross margins are used in sales.

J. Solve Problems involving buying and selling products.

K. Differentiate and compute profit from loss.

L. Explain the basic concepts of interest and illustrate how interest is computed specifically as
applied to mortgage, to amortization.

M. Define salary, wage, income, and benefits

O. Compute Overtime pay

P. Show sample of business data
