Assignment Chapter 4

Sleeping is an essential activity for human beings. The body requires a number of
hours of sleep to have the necessary energy every day. Sleeping has great benefits for
the human to exercise different organs for the functioning of the body. It also helps
the brain to work better, make learning easier, retain information and to stay
concentrated. If you have a bad sleeping habit, it suddenly will affect the
performance of your body. Lack of sleep can bring mood changes, fatigue like feeling
tired all day, irritability, headaches, falling asleep during daylight, and even
depression on severe occasions, as we saw in class.

I don't know if it's the age, personal things spinning in my mind, or university busy
life , but I recognize that I do not have a good sleeping habit. Most teenagers need
between 8 and 10 hours of sleep per night to get adequate rest. I haven't slept 8 hours
since I was in high school, my sleeping schedule changed because of the activities I
had every day of the week. Classes at school began early in the morning, I will go to
tennis practice for 3 hours after school, shower, and go home to do homework, that
was basically my routine in school days. I barely had time to watch TV or be with
friends. On the weekend it was different, I could sleep until 10 am and then
accompany my parents to their commitments. I was not a party girl, it was not of my
interest, I'd rather do other things to entertain myself in my free times like taking a
walk to the park with my siblings, playing with my dog, or watching some movie or
series while eating a snack. my hours of sleep were not the best, but I would recover
them on weekends.

Now that I am in university it is more complicated than before. I have roommates

that have a different sleeping schedule than me, I am full of homework, projects and
work almost every day, and for my current third semester I joined the women’s
soccer team, but for my bad luck the training is really early in the morning, when it is
still dark. This changed my hours of sleep completely because I used to go to bed
from 12 to 1 when I had everything done for the day. So from now on, I have to get
used to sleeping at an earlier time so I can have at least 6 hours of sleep.
So because of the change of a new stage of my life, I have the weekend to go out and
free my head from school stuff. During the week, I plan with my friends a fun activity
to do on the weekend. we would go to eat at a restaurant, do shopping, go to a party
or even something more adventurous. When older people tell me that I have to enjoy
this age and take every opportunity to try something new, I believe it. I am in my best
shape, I am mature enough to make decisions and still have to live many things. I
spend my weekends in different ways by meeting new people and new places that will
give me experiences and memories. This is what life is about.

Back to my sleeping schedule, I dont have one established. But this content makes
me realize the importance of sleeping and how beneficial this is for the human being.

The topic that caught my attention the most was biofeedback. It is quite confusing for
me to think that biofeedback is able to solve problems like stress or anxiety. We
learned in class that it is a system that shows the problem with body functions, then
gives help to control this problem with the body as well. Through this system people
have efficient improvements on the functioning of blood pressure, control with
anxiety, reduction of stress and panic attacks. In brief, this process is not magically
successful, it requires the voluntary attitude and effort of a person to modify the
signals of stress. I think someday this system will be the best option in case someday
I struggle with a higher degree of stress.
