Unit 1 Study Guide

The test will cover many topics from the unit including reading lab equipment, distinguishing observations from inferences, reading graphs, identifying experimental variables, and the key aspects of macromolecules like their monomers, polymers, elements, functions, breakdown and examples. Students should study their notes, assignments, and study guide to be prepared as the test has a 90 minute time limit and cannot be taken at home.

Unit 1 Study Guide

➢ The test is 32 questions; 57 points possible (therefore, some questions are worth more points than others!)

➢ Study the PPT Notes, Charts, Canvas Assignments, and Study Guide to prepare for the test.

➢ The test will have a 90 minute time limit… basically you have the whole block to finish it

➢ You cannot take the test at home just because you are absent. WHY? Because I do not want students skipping my
class on test days so they can take their test at home aka CHEAT

• Know how to read lab equipment (beaker, flask, or graduated cylinder)

• Difference between inference and observation

• Be able to read a line graph

• Be able to pick out the IV, DV, hypothesis, and constants for a problem
▪ Go to your Canvas Modules and look over the assignment you completed
called “Scientific Investigations Practice” to help you.

• Know the monomer, polymer, elements, function, and examples of the 4 macros (carb, lipid,
protein, & nucleic acid – this is SOOOO many questions of the test. Study your foldable. Look
over your notes. Make flash cards, etc.
• IF YOU DON’T KNOW YOUR MACROS, YOU WILL NOT DO WELL AT ALL!!
▪ Maybe even use your Macromolecules Quiz that you took in Canvas to help you!!

• Be sure you know what each macro looks like – you will be given the image and then have to
match a description to the correct picture! Once again, SOOOO important to know …..
• monomer
• Polymer
• elements
• function
• and examples of each macro.. along with what the macros look like
▪ USE NOTES FROM CLASS AND CHARTS WE DID

• Know how macros are broken down for energy (which is broken down 1st, 2nd, and last)
