Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan
Mathematics - 6
Prepared by: Ian Dwight H. Sabellina
I. Objectives:
At the end of the session the pupils will be able to:
a. describe speed, distance, and time;
b. solve problems involving speed, distance, and time and;
c. apply knowledge of speed, distance, and time in real-life situations.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Speed, Distance and Time
Reference: Mathematics Quarter 3 – Week 5
Learning Competency: M6MEIIIg-17
III. Materials:
Laptop, Internet, Power Point Presentation, Activity Sheets, Learning Module
IV. Teaching / Learning Procedures:
A. Routinary Matters
1. Prayer
- Lord’s Prayer
B. Review
The teacher will ask the pupils to give one algebraic expression.
C. Motivation
Game: 4 Pics and 1 Word
- The students will identify the missing word using the given four pictures.
- The students will also spell the words correctly orally when asked to
answer the question.
- This activity serves as a springboard to the main discussion.
D. Presentation
In this lesson, learners will learn how to calculate speed, distance, and time
given the different real life activities such as walking, running, and traveling.
The teacher will also present the formulas in calculating speed, distance, and
time.
E. Explanation
Speed is a scalar quantity that refers to “how fast an object is moving”. Speed
can be thought of as rate by which an object covers distance. Example 55
km/h.
The units of measurement of speed are
kilometer per hour (km/h)
minute per second (min/sec)
centimeter per second (cm/sec)
millimeter per second (mm/sec)
Formula in finding the speed
Distance is the total length between two positions. Example (Distance of
NCCS to Gaisano) kilometers
The units of measurement of distance are
kilometer (km)
meter (m)
centimeter (cm)
millimeter (mm)
Formula in finding the distance
Time is the quantity measured or measurable period during which an action,
process, or condition exists or continues. Example 4 hours
The units of measurement of time are
hour (h)
minute (min)
second (sec)
Conversion of Time
1 hr = 60 mins
1 min = 60 secs
Formula in finding the time
F. Generalization
The teacher will ask this question:
Why is it important to learn calculating the distances, the speed and
the time allotted when travelling?
G. Application
Identify what unit of measure is best suited to use in the following situations.
Choose the letter of the correct answers and then write it on a sheet of paper.
1. Puntod to Cogon
a. feet c. kilometers
b. inches d. meter
2. Jogging at the park
a. centimeter per hour c. meter per second
b. kilometer per second d. miles per second
3. Speed of travel from NCCS to Divisoria
a. centimeter per hour c. meter per second
b. kilometer per hour d. millimeter per minute
4. Walking from the dining room to living room
a. day c. millisecond
b. hour d. seconds
5. Philippines to New Zealand
a. centimeters c. miles
b. meters d. millimeters
H. Evaluation
Solve the following problems on your notebook.
1. Calculate the distance that you will travel if you drive for 3 hours at 45
km/h.
2. If the distance traveled by a train is 492 km in 4 hours, what is its speed?
3. Determine the time taken when, distance is 595 km and speed is 85 km/h.
V. Assignment:
Complete the table below. Write your answers on a sheet of paper.
