Laws of Gasses
Laws of Gasses
Laws of Gasses
Introduction
In this experiment you have to investigate the laws of gasses. You have to determine the depen-
dency of volume on pressure of a gas kept at constant temperature and of temperature on pressure
of a constant volume of gas.
Hypothesis
At constant temperature and with a fixed quantity of gas, pressure is inversely proportional
to volume
At constant volume and with a fixed quantity of gas, pressure is directly proportional to
the temperature in kelvin
Part 1:
Apparatus.
Laptop with the program Logger Pro, LabQuest mini, sensor of pressure, small syringe with a short con-
nection hose
Diagram
Procedure
Set the contend of the syringe to 20mL and connect it to Labquest via the pressure sensor. The wire from
the pressure censor has to be in CH1 on Labquest. You are now able to vary the volume of air (gas) inside
the syringe. Open LoggerPro on the laptop. Make a column in the spreadsheet where you write the differ-
ent volumes. Measure the pressure of the gas at different volumes variating from 20 mL down to 11 mL
and write the measurements into the spreadsheet.
Data
Insert your table with raw data. Remember to make proper headings
Dataprocessing
Discuss he results of the experiment. Do the data support or refute the hypothesis. Avoid words as
proof or proved use indicated, suggest, support or appear to refute instead.
The final sentence in this section should clearly state the conclusion reached.
Part 2:
Apparatus.
Laptop with the program Logger Pro, LabQuest, pressure sensor, temperature sensor, large container, mag-
net-stirrer, lab-stands, emersion heather (300W), stand holding flask with connection to pressure sensor .
Opstilling.

Procedure.
Laws of gasses
Put the flask down into the cold water inside the container. The container stays on the magnet-stirrer. The
flask has to be pressed beneath the surface of the water. Put the emersion heather into the water. The
heather is held by a lab stand
SAFETY ---
The Emersion heather must only be switched on if it is covered by water!!!!!!
Connect the hose from the flask to the pressure-sensor, which is connected to LabQuest via CH2. Put the
temperature-sensor into the water just beside the flask. Connect the temperature-sensor to Labquest via
CH1. Start LoggerPro on the laptop. Press and set Length to 45 min og 30 seconds/sample. Make the
graph to be pressure versus temperature. Now you are ready to collect data. Put on the emersion-heather
and choose .When the temperature is 80° the experiment stops.
