REASON FOR REFERRAL Psychological Assessment

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Birth/ Medical history:
Ridansh was born out of a pre-term C-section. He had cried immediately after birth. He was kept in the
incubator for 1 month owing to low birth weight.

Developmental history:
The speech and motor milestones have been reported to be achieved on time. Currently; he can walk
without assistance and can use sentences to communicate. He can eat dry food items and can drink water
without assistance. He can remove his dress. He needs assistance in putting his dress and buttoning. He
can indicate his toilet needs. He needs assistance in washing/ bathing.

Social & Behavioral history:


The child has cordial relations with his peers. Behaviorally; he is mildly restless and fidgety.

Academic history:
Academically; Ridansh is able to recognize body parts. He cannot identify colours and shapes. He can say
1 to 8 without errors. He cannot say A to Z in a series. He cannot identify and write letters and numbers.

Family history/ Nature of environment:


There is a significant family history of alcoholism in the father.

TESTS ADMINISTERED:-
KAMATH BINET TEST OF INTELLIGENCE
KAMATH BINET TEST OF INTELLIGENCE
The Kamath Binet Test of Intelligence is a commonly used as a verbal test. This test had been revised and
adapted to the Indian condition. It gives a pattern analysis for seven primary abilities namely language,
memory, conceptual thinking, reasoning, numerical reasoning, visual-motor co-ordination and social
intelligence.

On KBI his basal age is 3 years. His terminal age is 7 years.


His IQ is 92 indicating average intellectual functioning.

Immediate recall: He could repeat 6-7syllables. He could recall 3 digits forward. Backward counting or
recall is not attained.

Comprehension: He could do comprehension up to second degree level.

Categorization and abstraction: He can identify parts of the body. He can discriminate between shapes.
He could not identify all the shapes and colours. He could compare lines with different size. However; he
could not compare weights. He could define all the concrete objects in terms of use.

Spatial skills: He could not copy a square.

Math: He could do simple counting from 1 to 8. He could not do backward counting.

Test taking behavior:


The child appeared to be mildly restless. He can understand and follow simple instructions. The test was
administered in Marathi.

CONCLUSION:
On Kamath Binet test of Intelligence; his IQ of 92 is indicative of average intellectual functioning.

RECOMMENDATION:
 Occupational therapy and evaluation
 Remedial Education
 Academic assessment after 1 year of intervention is advisable
