ENTRANCE OF MISS FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE
At this point in time, let us all witness the entrance of Ms. Florence Nightingale, Ms. Daniela Marie
D. Manzo BSN IV.
Florence Nightingale known as “The Lady with the Lamp", was a British Nurse social reformer, best
known as the founder of modern nursing. Her experiences as a nurse during Crimean war were
foundational in her views about sanitation. She established St. Thomas Hospital and the Nightingale
Training School for Nurses in 1860. Her efforts to reform healthcare greatly influenced the quality of care in
the 19th and 20th century.
Nightingale made it her mission to improve hygiene practices, significantly lowering death rate at
the hospital in the process. The hard work took a toll on her health. She had just barely recovered when the
biggest challenge of her nursing career presented itself.
The symbol of light came from Florence Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp, who began the
flicker of hope for Nursing by showing the world what her caring heart and hands can do. Until now, the
lamp remains as a symbol of hope - hope for love, understanding and life.
These students will now have the opportunity to make an enormous and positive difference in the lives of
the people under their care.
