This research determined the impact of Club Organizations to Self-Efficacy

of Senior High School Students of Sta. Teresa College. The researchers sought to

answer the statement of the problem which would then answer the main problem

itself.

The researchers used a non-probability sampling technique. This was done

through purposive sampling, wherein the researchers choose respondents based

on qualifications, interests, and exclusiveness if they are fit for the study. Purposive

sampling is used, which is also called judgment, selective, or subjective sampling.

This is a deliberate selection of informants who can elucidate a particular subject,

idea, or phenomenon. Additionally, the researchers used this sampling strategy to

elicit qualitative replies, which resulted in increased insights and study findings

since the researchers chose respondents to collect data pertinent to the research

topic.

According to the study’s findings, the participants, who are members of club

organizations, share common experiences after joining a club organization. It

boosts their self-confidence and improves their socialization skills. However, the

study also shows the downside of being involve in an organization. Despite all that,

they lean into the positive effects of having an involment to an organization.

CHAPTER l

THE RESEARCH PROBLEM

Introduction

In recent years, most K-12 schools and universities have closed or

transitioned to an online learning format, often requiring a reduction in classroom

time and a decrease in educational opportunities. This also means the temporary

cessation of the activities of each club organization formed within the school.

However, CIRCLE’s new national poll of young Americans finds that, in

spite of these challenges, young people have stepped up to meet the moment.

Though they face drastic economic hardships, they still feel motivated to engage

in activism and in the upcoming election. Our polling data also demonstrate that,

as young people are adapting to the new realities of life under COVID-19, they

need support to help them thrive during this unprecedented crisis. The poll

highlights the need to apply an equity lens to these efforts: policymakers,

campaigns, and other stakeholders in the ecosystem of electoral engagement

must focus especially on young people of color in order to minimize the inequitable

impacts of the pandemic and to ensure youth of all backgrounds can fully tap into

their civic potential.

Generally, Club Organization is a type of organization with a focus upon

providing activities and socialization for minors inside the school. The participation

in clubs can hone your communication skills, foster creative thinking,

1
and teach you how to work effectively with other people. It gives young people the

courage to believe in themselves, to not be influenced by the opinions of others,

and to follow their dreams. The extracurricular involvement is one of the few ways

that colleges can gain insights into your personality.

Furthermore, Club Organizations are essentially small communities where

school offers various Club Organizations, essentially communities where a student

is welcomed and given the chance to express themselves, sharpen their talents,

have a deep sense of shared ownership, and most importantly acquire necessary

skills to become persons-for -others. They have class moderators and regularly

meet once a week. They are formed to give students the venue to discover, hone,

express, and share their God-given skills, talents, and potentials.

In addition, a Club Organization has many advantages for the youth

themselves, as well as for the entire community. The most obvious advantage of

membership is that club organizations in schools provide the students a forum to

fully. Being part of a group can help young people develop important personal and

interpersonal skills. These include the ability to think critically and solve problems,

and the assumption of personal and group responsibility. It can also help young

people gain self-confidence and self-esteem. Contributing to a group can help

them see themselves as being able to really help other people, and having

something important to offer.

2
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the impacts of Club Organizations to the self-

efficacy of Senior High School Students of Sta. Teresa College.

The following questions are specifically sought to be answered:

1. What are the concerns of Senior High School Students in joining clubs and

organizations?

2. What are the positive or negative effects of joining club organizations?

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages in joining a club organization?

4. Based on the results, what course of action can be done?

3
Theoretical Framework

The researchers gathered some theories and principles for this study.

These selected theories and regulations may give a better understanding and

elaboration of the study to help prove that this study may be possible.

THE IMPACT OF CLUB

ORGANIZATIONS TO SELF-
EFFICACY OF SENIOR
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Figure 1

Theoretical Diagram of the Study

4
Self-Efficacy Theory

Self-efficacy, as defined by Bandura's self-efficacy theory (1977), is a

person's conviction that they have the power to change the course of their lives.

This belief has a significant impact on how that person behaves, thinks, and feels

when faced with stress and problems. He noticed that there was a crucial process

at work in people's lives that had never been identified or formally studied

previously. This mechanism is people's conviction that they have the power to

influence the course of their own lives.

According to Bandura, perceived self-efficacy also affects how much work

and perseverance a person would expend to achieve their goals. Self-efficacy is a

trait that sustains itself because when people solve their difficulties successfully,

they experience positive outcomes that increase their self-efficacy even more.

Bandura identified four sources of self-efficacy: Mastery experiences, Vicarious

experiences, Verbal persuasion, and Emotional and physiological states.

Mastery experiences are when a person gains positive experiences after

successfully taking on a new challenge or learning a new skill, which helps them

understand that they have the capability to acquire new skills and abilities.

Vicarious experiences refer to the act of observing and emulating positive role

models such as parents, teachers, coaches, or mentors. Verbal persuasion, on the

other hand, is about the positive impact that encouraging and motivating words

can have on a person's self-efficacy. It can boost their belief in their ability to

succeed. Lastly, emotional and physiological states emphasize the importance of

5
context and overall health and well-being in developing and maintaining self-

efficacy. It is easier to boost self-efficacy when one is in good health and well-being

compared to when they are struggling with anxiety, depression, or health

conditions.

Social Impact Theory

The Social Impact Theory, developed by Bibb Latané (1981), is a well-

known social psychology theory that describes how social influences have a

bearing on people. According to the notion, people are extremely open to social

influence and can be influenced either favorably or negatively by the behavior of

others. Latané claims that social influence might come from an individual or be

aimed at a person. The theory views social influence as the outcome of social

forces acting on the individual, and the likelihood that someone will be influenced

by others is determined by the strength of the source, the immediacy of the event,

and the number of sources exerting the impact.

A person's physiological states, sentiments, motivations, cognitions, beliefs,

and values can change as a result of the actual, inferred, or perceived presence

or acts of other people, according to the theory's definition of social impact.

Emotional reactions, behavioral preferences, and even physiological arousal can

all shift as a result of these changes.

The Social Impact Theory examines the influence of social influences on

behavior in order to explain why people act in particular ways under particular

6
circumstances. According to the theory, people are more inclined to follow group

norms or engage in group activities when they believe the group to be strong and

everyone shares the same values. The idea also contends that when people have

social support or are in positions of authority, they are more likely to reject social

influence.

9
Scope, Limitations, Delimitations

This study is conducted at Sta. Teresa College with seven Senior High

School students. The formal and systematic discourse between the participants

and researchers shall consist of giving and receiving data regarding personal and

experiences of the impact of club organization in Senior High School students This

is aimed to assess how club organization have an impact in the self esteem of the

Senior High Students. This study does include to know more of the disadvantages

and advantages of joining club organization.

However, the study also has its own limitations; the respondents are the selected

leaders and members of youth organizations. The data collected from the

respondents is through a questionnaire conducted by the researcher. There are

certain limitations of the study that must be acknowledged.

10
Significance of the Study

The researchers intend to authenticate the significance of organizational

differences, particularly to the following groups that may be benefited.

Schools. This study will give schools information and suggestions about

how to manage their pupils or what they can do to help them. They will be able to

choose the right youth organization to help their pupils develop their skills.

Young people. This study will make them aware of the issues that may

affect them, whether those issues include violence, suicide, or anything else. And

also this research may help them to know how they will deal with it. Furthermore,

it may also help them improve their mindsets.

Teachers. This study will provide the teachers additional information on

how they will handle their students by their abilities.

Community. This study focus on promoting and ensuring young people's

democratic and social rights; encouraging their social and political participation at

all levels in community life; and offering opportunities for personal and social

development through leisure activities, voluntary engagement and non-formal

Parenting styles. This study play a part in academic achievement and

motivation can also influence children's mental well-being. Kids raised by

authoritarian, permissive, or uninvolved parents tend to experience more anxiety,

depression, and other mental health problems.

11
Future researchers. Institute engages in a wide range of applied youth

development research on focused areas of positive youth development, including

studies that seek to understand the contexts in which young people grow up. In

each of these sections, you’ll find publications that share what we’ve learned.

12
Definition of Terms

The following key concepts used in this study have been operationally

defined for clarification.

Self-efficacy. A person's belief in their ability to complete a task or achieve

a goal. It encompasses a person's confidence in themselves to control their

behavior, exert an influence over their environment, and stay motivated in the

pursuit of their goal. People can have self-efficacy in different situations and

domains, such as school, work, relationships, and other important areas. (Kendra

Cherry, 2023)

Time management. The process of planning and organizing how much

time you devote to specific activities, tasks, or projects in order to maximize

productivity, efficiency, and success. It is an important skill that allows people to

make the most of their day and achieve their goals in the limited time they have.

(Leon Ho, 2023)

Attitude. Refers to summary evaluations of people, groups, ideas, and

other objects, reflecting whether individuals like or dislike them. An understanding

how individuals perceive the world and how they behave. (Lukas J. Wolf, Geoffrey

Haddock and Gregory R. Maio, 2020)

Emotion. A complex reaction pattern, involving experiential, behavioral and

physiological elements. Emotions are how individuals deal with matters or

13
situations they find personally significant. (American Psychological Association,

2019).

Mindset. Set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself.

It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation. It means that

what you believe about yourself impacts your success or failure.(Kendra Cherry,

2022)

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter contains the conceptual literature and related studies about

The Impact of Club Organizations to Self-Efficacy of Senior High School Students;

A Study of its effects on the Behavioral Development of Senior High Students. The

research uses these as references to further improve their study.

Conceptual Literature

This part presents articles from different sources that may benefit the

researchers for this research paper.

According to (Amalu et al., 2020), the expectation of every parent and teacher is

to see children do well academically, physically, socially, morally and otherwise.

Recording academic success is not only based on the premise of hard work and

determination, it also depends on the child’s personal traits and characteristics

needed for quality learning. One of the most important traits of a good learner is

the belief in his capability and power to perform a given task. Unfortunately, the

variance in students’ self-efficacy reveals a downward prediction in their academic

success. Though students have desires, they do not believe in their potential to

bring these desires to reality, and find it difficult to tackle challenging situations.

Students with poor self-efficacy find it difficult to carry out advanced extra-curricular

activities because they lack confidence in themselves. Poor self-efficacy has over

the years been observed by the researchers who are educators and classroom

15
teachers, as being a worrisome trend of a high proportion of school students in

Sta. Teresa College.

Students with poor self-efficacy. Students find it difficult to carry out advanced

extra-curricular activities because they lack confidence in themselves. Poor self-

efficacy has over the years been observed by the researchers who are educators

and classroom teachers, as being a worrisome trend of a high proportion of

secondary school students in Cross River State, Nigeria. Observation in recent

times has shown that students do not believe they are capable of performing

academic responsibilities. They are poorly equipped and do not think they can face

the complexities of routine activities in the school. Aspects of poor self-efficacy

observed among students, include social self-efficacy, physical self-efficacy,

academic self-efficacy, language self-efficacy and moral self-efficacy.

Furthermore, Bekomson and Ntamu (2019) stated that most secondary

school students find it difficult to recover their sense of efficacy after failing. The

feeling of inadequacy makes students procrastinate, while most of them without

attempting, already feel that they are not capable of handling any given academic

task. Poor self-efficacy has become a major threat to effective school learning.

Bekomson and Mgban (2019) worried that students’ lack of belief in their abilities

could be the reason why they find it difficult to answer abstract questions during

examinations. There has been a growing concern by researchers, psychologists,

school counselors, school administrators and parents who have over the years

made several efforts to help students improve on their self-efficacy. Such notable
16
efforts include establishing specific, short term goals in their curriculum and

lessons to challenge the students. Some secondary schools organize extra

lessons to help students learn more and have faith in themselves.

Students with their academic performance. Education is seen as being a public

good, with an educated citizenry seen as being beneficial at the individual, public

and community level (East et al., 2014). This perspective creates an imperative for

higher education institutions to help students to learn, with modern universities

generally seen as having three main missions: teaching, research and public

service. This mandate creates a need to measure educational quality and

outcomes, a continuing and highly contested challenge at both philosophical and

practical levels (Noaman et al., 2017). This debate notwithstanding, academic

performance as measured by the achievement of grades and a final degree award

are a major concern of stakeholders such as students and parents. Its importance

is illustrated by the volume of work which investigates the impact of extra-curricular

activities on academic performance.

According to Kimani, Kara & Njagi (2013) the purpose of education is to

equip the citizenry with values, skills and knowledge to reshape their society and

eliminate inequality. This is because education helps an individual develop his/her

capabilities, attitudes and behavior that is acceptable to society. The benefits of

having quality education is that it is able to adapt to the changing needs of the

country as the world changes and spearhead the development of human resources

and the country’s economy.

17
The measure of academic performance as a symbol of school success can

be traced way back from the Victorian period (Bell, 2013). Since then, academic

performance has been used to grade schools and most importantly to determine

one's career paths. The ‘good schools’ are acclaimed to be those that are able

groom the students well enough to achieve the set standards. This is measured by

use of students’ academic performance both at school level and nationally. The

importance of students’ high performance has attracted the attention of the public,

policy-makers, educators, learners and ministry of education alike.

According to Benoza and Palaoag (2023), academic success and key

features in education. Academic success and obtaining good grades are among

the main goals in all levels of education while having positive outcomes both for

the learners and educational systems. The students’ performance (academic

achievement) plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who

will become great leaders and manpower for the country thus responsible for the

country’s economic and social development, also one of the major factors

considered by employers in hiring workers especially for the fresh graduates. Thus,

students have to put the greatest effort in their study to obtain good grades and to

prepare themselves for future opportunities in their career at the same time to fulfill

the employers demand. Many factors, including socioeconomic status, student

temperament and motivation, peer, and parental support influence academic

performance.

18
Competence and skill development. Studies have demonstrated significant

relationships between participation in extracurricular activities and employer

desired skills such as communication and team-working (Clark et al., 2015).

Similarly, the work exploring the impact of extra-curricular activities on

complementary skills is also positive, with a range of studies showing that

participation develops skills prized by employers such as communication, team-

work and problem solving. However, it is clear that there are significant gaps in our

understanding of the effects of extracurricular activities participation, and our

understanding of the effect of participation on students lacks depth. In terms of

employability, most of the work is quantitative and investigates the impact of extra-

curricular activities on specific complementary skills. Studies that focus on specific

skills acquired as a result of extra-curricular activities may fail to identify other skills

that are being developed in parallel. There is a need to further explore the

competences and skills that participants report developing through participation in

extracurricular activities. Most studies on the effect of extra-curricular activities

have been directed by the employability and marketability agenda. Understanding

how extra-curricular activities impact upon students’ future careers is a vital

consideration; however, too narrow a focus on outcomes related to employability

runs the risk of overlooking other benefits that may be associated with participation

in extracurricular activities. There is a need to explore this issue by questioning

whether other benefits or positive outcomes are associated with participation in

extracurricular activities.

19
According to GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY (2016), while giving you

a break from your regular class schedule, student organizations also provide

opportunities for members to relax and socialize. Joining a student organization is

a great way to meet new people and learn how to work with a diverse group of

individuals. Of course, organizations offer a great way to build your résumé, too.

Successfully participating in a student organization shows potential employers that

you can handle leadership duties and know how to work with others.

In addition, individual characteristics and campus environment can affect

activity participation where the student life of an institution plays a significant role.

Students passionate about making a positive contribution to their university are

more likely to be involved in extracurricular activities as they enable them to be an

active part of the community whilst gaining knowledge and experience. A faculty's

institutional policy significantly impacts extracurricular activity participation and

generates constructive outcomes as frequent interaction amongst students and

various members in a faculty positively influences a student's satisfaction with their

academic major and enhances career motivation.

There has been a growing concern by researchers, psychologists, school

counselors, school administrators and parents who have over the years made

several efforts to help students improve on their self-efficacy. Such notable efforts

include establishing specific, short term goals in their curriculum and lessons to

challenge the students. Some secondary schools organize extra lessons to help

students learn more and have faith in themselves. Parents also organize extra-
20
lessons for their children to equip them academically and make them feel capable

of handling. The main purpose of the study was to find out if interest in

extracurricular activities has any influence on self-efficacy with reference to social

self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, language self-efficacy and moral self-efficacy.

The ex-post facto design was adopted for the study. A sample of 1,586 students

was randomly selected from the public secondary schools in Cross River State for

the study. In addition, a questionnaire titled “Interest in Extra Curricular Activity and

Self-Efficacy (IECASEQ) was the instrument used for data collection. The validity

of the instrument was determined by two experts in test and measurement and two

in educational psychology. The reliability of the instrument was determined using

Cronbach Alpha reliability method. The data collected were analyzed using

descriptive statistics. The results revealed that interest in co-curricular activities

significantly influenced social self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, language self-

efficacy, moral self-efficacy and overall self-efficacy. Based on the findings of this

study, it was recommended among others that teacher and school administrators

should create opportunities for students to travel for excursions, and not see

involvement in co-curricular activities as a distraction to students. (Amalu et al.,

2020)

Interest in Extra-Curricular Activities and Self Efficacy of Senior Secondary

School Students. Extra-curricular activities are organized interest building

activities or skills that students’ take part outside their

basic academic lessons like sporting activities, music lessons, dancing and

21
singing lessons, chorography, drama, debate, quiz etc. while self-efficacy

according to Bandura is an individual’s belief in his own ability to perform well,

cutting across his feelings, thinking, behavior and self-motivation. From the above

definition, Burr contends that extra-curricular activities provide an environment for

adolescent development of new skills and novel ideas that help them

develop academic self-efficacy.

He further argued that though the importance of extra-curricular activity is

overwhelming for the development of academic self-efficacy, rather than a greater

commitment that might encroach into the time for academic work various

categories of extra-curricular activities ranging from music and art, academic extra-

curricular organizations, students’ unionism, school clubs and community groups

provide different opportunities for adolescent growth, learning, and positive youth

development. These diverse experiences as a result of participation in numerous

forms of extra-curricular activities are associated with high academic self-efficacy.

Broh argued that participation in extracurricular activities boost students’ academic

performance in three different ways. First, participation in extracurricular activities

help students develop character and skills such as self-efficacy, self-esteem,

positive work, perseverance, locus of control which are boosters of academic

performance.

Secondly, he maintained that involvement in extracurricular activities helps

increase the social status of students and gives them the opportunity to belong to

a leading crowd of peers, who are oriented towards academic work. Membership
22
of such groups helps to promote students’ self-efficacy and higher academic

performance.

Thirdly, interest in extracurricular activities creates a positive atmosphere

for social interaction among students and the school, this situation fosters the

development of social ties and social capital. Consequently, social ties create

social control which enable students to obey school rules, thus gaining academic

success. The integration of interest in extracurricular activities and self-efficacy in

this study has revealed that the individual’s perceived self-efficacy promotes the

development of subsequent interest in topics and activities. Bandura reiterated that

self-efficacy is constantly displayed from childhood to adulthood, and increases as

an individual believes that he can accomplish a task. Self-efficacy can be

reinforced during childhood by academic outcomes and athletic ability, public

speaking, ability to sing or engage in other music related activities. Bandura

believes that the best way one develops self-efficacy towards a particular task is

by gaining mastery of the subject. When success is recorded, it results in the

creation of additional success as one is likely to make another attempt. (Amalu et

al., 2020).

Related Studies

This part contains studies that are similar to or related to the present study

in some aspect.

23
According to the study of Jhoselle Tus (2020) investigated the influence of

self-efficacy on the academic performance of the Grade 12 Senior High School

students at the St. Paul College of Bocaue. The findings of the study concluded

that the level of the self-efficacy of the respondents was high. Likewise, the findings

suggested that the students are resilient and determined in the face of setbacks,

feel assured that they will be able to learn the classroom discussion and excel on

their assessment, and they tend to be more intrinsically motivated to learn new

knowledge.

Furthermore, the computed linear regression analysis results revealed that

self-efficacy does not significantly affect the Senior High School students’

academic performance. This suggests that even if the students have a high level

of self-efficacy it doesn’t influence their academic performance in class. However,

it doesn’t mean that the school should not give importance to developing the

students’ self-efficacy. Hence, it is suggested that the school should continue its

academic programs that will continuously develop the student’s well-being in the

process of acquiring relevant experiences and skills in the school.

According to another study of Jhoselle Tus (2020), self–related perceptions

have turned into an essential subject in education, given its impacts on students'

behavior and academic performance. These self-related psychological

perceptions include self – concept, self – esteem, and self – efficacy. Education in

the Philippines represents the ever-changing facets of life. Augmenting the current

educational system through the implementation of the K to 12 curriculums. Thus,

24
this study's primary purpose was to determine the students' self-concept, self-

esteem and self-efficacy, and academic performance. The respondents of the

study were senior high school students. The descriptive correlational research

method was utilized to describe the respondents' profile in terms of self-concept,

self esteem, self-efficacy, and academic performance. The null hypothesis at .05

alpha level of significance was tested to determine the impact of self-concept, self-

esteem, and self-efficacy on the students' academic performance. The computed

multiple regression analysis results revealed that self-concept, self-esteem, and

self efficacy do not significantly affect senior high school students' academic

performance. Moreover, it is suggested that the school personnel and parents

monitor and provide the needed support and guidance to their children while

searching for their identities. Also, devise additional programs for their students'

proper guidance and make progress on the learning activities and teaching-

learning plan to maximize their learning experience and boost the students'

performance in class.

Furthermore, Kimberley Haines (2019) said in her study entitled, “Student

Perspectives on Joining Student Organization”, concerning student organization

development and its relationship with student engagement, the emphasis on

student affairs professionals to understand and develop their assessment skills is

a necessity. Student engagement serves an impetus for collaborating with

academic affairs, and examining how HIPs compliments co-curricular

practices. The benefits of student’s involvement with purposeful activities include a

25
boost in confidence, increases in one’s self-esteem, an understanding of one’s

self, a deepened sense of belonging to the institution and an understanding for the

welfare of others. Research has also stated that involvement with co-curricular

experiences has a significant impact on a student’s cognitive development;

including critical thinking skills. Additionally, an institution’s learning environment

is enhanced when there is an 37 ethos for valuing a holistic approach to learning

and the participation of students in all facets of campus life.

Kim Haines (2019) added that in recent years, various sources have

expressed widespread concern whether undergraduate students are learning

enough in college and whether institutions are providing intentionally purposeful

learning opportunities, so it is important that higher education professionals

understand the role of co-curricular activities in response to how best to support

pathways for student learning. By learning more about the lived experiences of

students who actively engage in a student organization, student affairs

professionals will be able to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of

the circumstances that contribute to a student’s decision to join.

Lastly, student organizations and the office are greatly affected by the

COVID 19 pandemic, forcing universities to shift into the online setting. The

organizations continue to adapt to the new normal by conducting online events

and activities. However, managing events and activities can be challenging,

especially without the use of a common platform. The paper proposes an event

management system that would ease the transition to the online setting and reduce

26
workload. A web application that focuses on event application, event

implementation, and post-activity evaluation would benefit the coordination

between the involved parties. The study aims to automate necessary document

processes, provide an online platform for student organizations to execute

proposals, generate and summarize the entirety of the events and activities.

(E. Blancaflor, et. al, 2021)

Synthesis

The different studies presented above have contributed to the development

of this study. The studies stated above are related to our study since they focus on

researching the impacts of club organizations to self-efficacy of Senior High School

Students.

In this section, researchers conclude similarities and differences in

reviewing the related studies and literature, which will aid in the systematization,

verification, and defense of the study's findings. This study has been made

possible by the researchers' different studies, which have added additional

knowledge, information, and understanding that will aid in the completion of the

study.

According to the study of Jhoselle Tus, wherein they examined the impact

of self-efficacy on the academic performance of Grade 12 Senior High School

students at St. Paul College of Bocaue, self-efficacy did not have a significant

effect on the academic performance of the Senior High School students. This
27
implies that even with a high level of self-efficacy, it did not directly influence their

performance in class. The present study shares similarities with Jhoselle Tus’ study

since it also uses self-efficacy as its independent variable. However, instead of

academic performance as its dependent variable, the current study uses club

organizations.

The study conducted by Lois J. Smith et al. focused on exploring the impact

of student involvement in extracurricular activities, specifically student

organizations, on the development of leadership skills and self-reported leadership

traits. With a particular emphasis on student organizations due to their significant

role in the lives of students in the college, the researchers aimed to investigate the

effects of student organization involvement more deliberately and purposefully.

This is similar to the current study since it also focuses on student organizations

as a key variable. However, the current research studies the effect on self-efficacy,

instead of the development of their leadership skills.

Consequently, according to Kimberley Haines in her study titled "Student

Perspectives on Joining Student Organization," the development of student

organizations and their relationship with student engagement necessitate the

understanding and enhancement of assessment skills by student affairs

professionals. Engaging in purposeful activities brings several benefits to students,

including increased confidence, improved self-esteem, self-understanding, a

stronger sense of belonging, and concern for the well-being of others.

28
In addition, Kim Haines’ study also stated that there has been growing

concern about the adequacy of undergraduate learning in college and the provision

of purposeful learning opportunities. It is crucial for higher education professionals

to comprehend the significance of co-curricular activities in supporting student

learning pathways. The study of Kim Haines shares similarities with the present

study since the researchers aims to delve into understanding how joining student

club organizations affected them positively and negatively, particularly on self-

efficacy.

CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The methods and processes employed in the field of research are discussed in

this chapter. This section covers the research design, data gathering processes,

and the propositions prerequisite to the said study.

Research Design

A phenomenological qualitative research was conducted to satisfy the

objectives of the research. It was used to determine the impacts of club

organizations to self-efficacy of Senior High School Students of Sta. Teresa

College. The conducted study will help the students, teachers, and school

administration.

According to Wilson (2015), phenomenological research is a method with

strong philosophical origins, which can sometimes be challenging for novice

investigators. However, developing an appreciation of these philosophical origins

can enhance and strengthen the research design. A fundamental challenge is to

understand the range of philosophical and empirical approaches to situate one's

own research. Such phenomenological approaches are often characterized and

differentiated by the degree to which it is accepted that an investigator can achieve

objective descriptions of, or interpret, lived experience.

30
Furthermore, qualitative research has been defined as the investigation of

phenomena, typically in an in-depth and holistic fashion, through the collection of

rich narrative materials using a flexible research design (Lippincott, Williams &

Wilkins, 2017). Qualitative research aims to provide in-depth insights and

understanding of real-world problems and, in contrast to quantitative research, it

does not introduce treatments, manipulate or quantify predefined variables.

Qualitative research is associated with the constructivist or naturalistic paradigm,

which began as a countermovement to the positivistic paradigm associated with

quantitative research. Where positivism assumes that there is an orderly reality

that can be objectively studied, constructivism holds that there are multiple

interpretations of reality and that the goal of the research is to understand how

individuals construct reality within their natural context.

The phenomenological study research design helps the researchers to

observe the impacts of club organizations to self-efficacy of Senior High School

Students. In addition to this, the research study will also provide information on

what the study is all about that will further benefit school administration and its

students.

Participants of the Study

The researchers used a non-probability sampling technique. This was done

through purposive sampling, it refers to a group of non-probability sampling

techniques in which units are selected because they have characteristics that you

31
need in your sample. In other words, units are selected “on purpose” in purposive

sampling. It is also called judgmental sampling, this sampling method relies on the

researcher’s judgment when identifying and selecting the individuals, cases, or

events that can provide the best information to achieve the study’s objectives.

Purposive sampling is common in qualitative research and mixed methods

research. It is particularly useful if you need to find information-rich cases or make

the most out of limited resources, but is at high risk for research biases like

observer bias. (Nikolopoulou, K., 2022).

Additionally, the researchers will interview seven to ten Seniors High School

Students in Sta. Teresa College about the impact of the club organizations to their

self-efficacy. The researchers limited the respondents of this study to seven to ten

participants since the data gathering was done using one-on-one interviews

personally.

Data Gathering Instruments

The researchers used the data gathering instrument through the interview,

which gave more in-depth and extensive information that would help the

researchers look into the impacts of club organizations to Senior High School

Students . It can also be used for sensitive topics in which the participants would

have time to think about their answers; they're not usually required to reply

immediately. Thus, making the participants more willing to answer the questions.

The researchers devised the questionnaire according to how it can answer our

32
statement of the problem. Sub-questions were used for the participant to further

elaborate on a specific question. The researchers were assigned to interview

Senior High School Students to provide sufficient information to support the

analysis. The information gathered was then transcribed and translated to develop

the results.

Regarding this, the researchers used some research materials such as

books, online articles, related thesis, observations, interviews, questionnaires, and

other websites found on the internet as resources of information that would be

beneficial for this study.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers decided on the data collecting method that would be used

to complete the tasks to finish the study. The study's participants had to be picked

with care and precision, and they had to have a connection or relationship with the

said topic.

Before conducting the interview, the researchers prepared the questions

and inquiries for the study's participants. Then they asked permission from the

interviewees if they could work such a task to learn more about the impacts of club

organizations to self-efficacy of Senior High School Students. After being

permitted, the researchers conducted the face to face interview and online

interview using online platforms like Microsoft Teams and Messenger that the

participants were comfortable with. The researchers presented the objectives of

33
the present study and its design. The researchers also tried their full efforts to build

rapport with the interviewee so that the interviewee would be comfortable in

answering such questions.

Finally, after conducting the interview and all facts were ready, it was

translated into a research paper. The researchers employed audio recorders,

cameras, and other devices to help them understand the conversation easily when

transcription and summarizing data. The information is then interpreted and

analyzed until precise recommendations and conclusions are reached. To present

the best facts needed, the researchers have also managed to search on the

internet and investigated other information concerning the impacts of club

organizations to self-efficacy of Senior High School Students related to the study

being undertaken.

34
CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data:

internal and external interpretation gathered with the end view of answering the

problems of this research. It also presents the data collected and analyzed by the

researchers. It answers all the questions from the statement of the problem. The

researchers also interviewed to support the study strongly. It will explain the

various categories that describe the data collected by the researchers.

35
1. Concerns of Senior High School Students

The table below shows how club organizations unlock the students skills

and talents.

Table 1

Concerns of Senior High School Students

THEMES RESPONSES

"...at first I was still shy and didn't know how

to get along with everyone..."

"...I started to become sociable and I

started to acquire new talents and skills as
I step out of my comfort zone."
Behavior at First
"...I noticed that my skills have been more
developed, my talents have been more
nurtured, and I have learned more how to
be a leader and follower."

"I noticed that I became more disciplined..."

36
"...offer members an opportunity to show
off their talents and skills..."

"...through the activities or program they

conduct, each member acquires new
learnings and experiences that will help
them discover their own talent."
Ways of Unlocking Talents

"...opportunity to train well and with that

training comes the opportunity to know
what their weaknesses are so that they can
focus on that..."

"...when they participate in a performance

either outside or inside the school..."

As shown in Table 1, we came up with themes, such as Behavior at First

and Ways of Unlocking Talents. After interpreting the data gathered in the

interview, 7 out of 7 participants says that club organizations help them find and

unlock their talents and skills. The different club organizations help them explore

new things and find what their true interests are.

According to Bentley University (2022), joining a student organization

presents many opportunities to learn more about yourself, your goals and your

strengths. You can learn from how other students handle certain situations and

test your current knowledge. You can also find out what you’re good at, whether

that’s multitasking, staying organized, generating ideas or serving others. This self-

awareness will be beneficial in your future career.

37
In addition to that, Mark Anthony Llego (2022), said that extracurricular

activities can have many benefits for students. They can help students learn new

skills, make new friends, and explore different interests. These activities can also

help students develop leadership skills and build confidence. Participating in

extracurricular activities can also help students academically. Studies have shown

that students who participate in extracurricular activities have higher grades and

test scores than those who do not.

"Actually, joining club groups can help people discover their abilities
and realize their full potential. These organizations offer members an
opportunity to show off their talents and skills as well as chances for
personal growth."

- Participant 1

"The club organizations hone the abilities of their members through

the activities or program they conduct, each member acquires new learnings
and experiences that will help them discover their own talent."

- Participant 4

"Club organizations help their members unlock their talents because

they're given the opportunity to train well and with that training comes the
opportunity to know what their weaknesses are so that they can focus on
that and hopefully improve those points for them to actually be a good
member of the said club organization."

2. Effects of Joining Club Organizations

The table 2 shows the different effects of club organizations to the

Students.

“...other club members are supportive and

will help you with anything.”
“...help me improve myself and gain the
confidence needed to express myself to
others.”

“ …I was taught to step out of my comfort

Boosting Confidence

“...I was able to perform and speak in front

of many people.”

“...It can actually boost our self-esteem

because we act in different plays and in
every different play you learn something
and one of the things we can do is boost
our self-esteem.”

39
“...I want to join every project that we
have…”

“...as a senior associate editor of the leaf I

am in charge of creating articles for our
publication.”
Productivity
“...I was motivated to push myself to my
limits because I know that I can achieve
many things…”

“...it definitely also made me become

productive because instead of wasting my
time going on my phone or doing activities
that I will not benefit from…”

“I have made a lot of friends in our club and

also made other friends from other
sections.”

“...by interacting with other members I can

increase my expertise and brainstorm my
ideas.”
Socialization with Peers

“...I definitely improve my socializing skills

because the members are also easy to
interact with.”

“...those who I didn't expect to be able to

close at the club, I suddenly closed and
until now we still treat each other well…”

As shown in Table 2, we came up with different themes such as Boosting

Confidence, Productivity, and Socialization with Peers. After the researchers

interpreted the gathered data in the interview, all the participants said that they

benefited in the club they were involved in. This means that they were able to

40
improve their social skills and self-confidence after joining different club

organizations.

Assesing to that, Grand Canyon University (2022) said that by joining a

club, you’ll have more opportunities to connect with your peers on a deeper level.

You’ll get the chance to forge new friendships that could potentially last beyond

college.

Bentley University (2022) added that soft skills are essentially “people

skills”. They’re the skills that allow us to effectively interact with others, like

communication, attitude and work ethic. Participating in a student organization not

only teaches you these skills, but also helps you broaden and improve those you

already have. You’ll learn the best way to communicate with both individuals and

large groups, and you’ll gain emotional intelligence as you develop new

relationships.

“Yes, It really did improve my self esteem. Sometimes it does go low,

but the other club members are supportive and will help you with anything.”

- Participant 2

“Yes, I became productive when I started joining the club organization

because I am able to participate in the club activities. There are certain duties
I fulfill in my club. For example, as a senior associate editor of the leaf I am
in charge of creating articles for our publication.”

- Participant 4

41
“I became more sociable inside and outside the club organizations
that I belong to because the way we treat each other is not just because we
are members of the club but also as family members. Those who I didn't
expect to be close to the club, I suddenly closed and until now we still treat
each other well even though some of them are alumni of STC.”

“...If the members differ and don't

come up with one goal in mind then a
delay in their work is possible.”

“...Without the communication and

understanding between your co-
members, it will more likely cause
chaos and misunderstandings
between them.”

As shown in Table 3, the researchers’ have seen different advantages and

disadvantages of having a club organization of a student. It shows that most of

them are extroverts that can easily communicate with others. They usually help

the other introverted students to bring unique strengths and qualities to a group

setting, and working collaboratively with introverted students can lead to a more

diverse and effective team dynamic. However, 4 out of 7 participants have hard

time managing their time.

According to The University Network (2023) if you already have identified a

specific passion or interest, joining a club is a great way to boost your skills. You’ll

learn from those around you and become motivated to further explore your

passions and interests on your own. They also added that participation in
45
extracurricular activities, including high school clubs and sports, has long been

linked to success later in life. Likely that’s because of many of the factors listed

above. Clubs help you get into good colleges and universities, improve your

academic performance, boost your mental health, help you develop lifelong

passions and interests, teach you valuable skills, and help you become a better

teammate and leader.

Also, the American Psychological Association (2023) said that the first is

fun. More than anything else, you’re supposed to enjoy the club(s) that you’re a

part of. Clubs, although they may be pressing and difficult at times, are ultimately

supposed to bring you joy. And fun is one of the ultimate stress relievers.

“Actually, joining club groups can help people discover their abilities
and realize their full potential. These organizations offer members an
opportunity to show off their talents and skills as well as chances for
personal growth.”

- Participant 1

“Ever since I was a kid, I was an extrovert so making friends or

socializing with other people was never really a problem for me but I think
one thing that is important to note was when I started joining club
organizations I definitely saw the true essence of being able to socialize with
other people inside and outside of the club organization that I am joining in.”

- Participants 5

“If you will not listen well to your trainer or director you cannot
perform well. By listening and understanding their words you will be able to
perform well and at the same time you will manage to avoid the wrong doings
and master the things that may be difficult for you. Sometimes

46
miscommunication happens and it's hard when you get the wrong
information from your co-members. I need to listen well and ask questions
so that I can manage to do my task well.”

- Participants 7

47
Proposed Activities

The researchers would like to propose an activity or action plan, a simple

short program to help the Senior High School Student improve their talents and

skills.

This study is aimed to make Senior High School Students develop their

confidence and be more self-aware of their skills and things that they can do. As a

senior student, it is necessary to help each other to become more confident, active,

and be responsible for joining the club organization. As a result, joining club

organization help them to become more sociable and can follow others to do

activities. However, they must observe the activities they will do, if they can fit in it

or not they always should consider first their physical health.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter summarizes the findings, conclusions, and recommendations

gathered by the researchers to the beneficiaries of this study entitled, Club

Organizations: Its Impact to Self-Efficacy of Senior High School Students.

Summary

The study aimed to determine the Impact of Club Organizations to Self-

Efficacy of Senior High School Students.

Specifically, it sought answers to following questions:

1. What are the concerns of Senior High School Students in joining club

organizations?

2. What are the positive or negative effects in joining a club organization?

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining club organizations?

4. Based on the findings, what course of action can be done?

50
Findings

Based on the gathered data presented, the following findings were revealed

in the study:

1. Talents and Skills Senior High School Students. Club organizations have

many ways on how it will help the students unlock and develop their skills and

talents. It opens up a path for the students to explore new things and find what

their interest are. Joining a club helps the students to know more about

themselves, their strengths and their weaknesses. It also helps them develop skills

that can help them in the future such as leadership skills.

2. Effects of Joining Club Organizations. Based on the results, joining a club

organizations have different effects. Majority of the participants answered that club

organization boost their self-confidence because they are taught to step out of their

comfort zone and they are asked to perform or stand in front of many people. A lot

of participant also claimed that being a member of a club organization helps them

improve their socializing skills. They say that being part of a club helps them

interact with other students or person who share the same interest as them. With

them continuously improving their socializing skills, they will be able to

communicate with others inside and outside the organization.

3. Advantages and Disadvantages of having a Club Organization. Joining a

club organization have several advantages such as it helps the students explore

things, it enhances one's talents and skills and it keeps one's passion alive.

51
However, joining a club organization also have disadvantages because different

clubs have different level of activeness. When it comes to time management, most

of the participants finds it hard to balance their time between club activities and

academics. Some also finds it hard to communicate with others when there is a

difference in the communication style they use. But majority of the participants still

says that being part of a club organization greatly boosts their self-confidence.

4. Proposed Enhancement Activities. The researchers formulated and

proposed an activity or action plan to help the senior high school students improve

their talents and skills through sharing and recommendations activities. Therefore,

researchers came up with different enhancement activities such as; “Embracing

Improvement” in which club organizations will help the students who wants to

develop and enhance their talents and skills, “Confidence Booster”, “Work It, Own

It”, and “Pandanggo”.

Conclusions

Based on the results and findings gathered by the researchers, the following

conclusions were drawn:

1. The gathered data in the interview shows the students attitude and behavior

before and after they joined their club organizations. Furthermore, the results also

show how the students unleashed their talents and skills.

2. The study shows the benefits that students are getting inside an organization.

The participants answered that they became productive and wanted to join more
52
activities in the organization. Moreover, their self-confidence boosted up and

started to socialize more with others.

3. Based on research and studies, being part of a well-organized club provides the

students with good opportunities to develop new skills, explore their interests, and

build their social networks.

4. The members of the club can join the following proposed enhancement

activities; “Embracing Improvement” in which club organizations will help the

students who wants to develop and enhance their talents and skills, “Confidence

Booster”, “Work It, Own It”, and “Pandanggo”.

Recommendations

Recommendations were formed to further improve the research study. The

following are the recommendations being offered by the researchers:

1. The researchers recommends students to seek for club organization that

presents many opportunities to learn more about yourself, your goals, and your

strengths.

2. The researchers recommendation is for schools and universities to encourage

and promote club organizations to their students. They can do this by providing

information on the available clubs and organizations and the benefits of joining

them.

53
3. Club organizations provides the students with good opportunities. Therefore, the

researchers recommend for those students who wants to make their personality

stronger the clubs that will help them accomplish it.

4. Students may utilize this study for them to know the expercience of people that

are joining club organization in school. Students may also use this study to learn

and expand more their knowledge by learning new skills that may benefit them in

the future.

5. Future researchers may utilize the research study to further their own. They may

help the students that are in need of supporting joining clubs or any organization.

They may also base on the current research to discover or explore more benefits

of joining club organization.

PARTICIPANT # 1

IR: What did you notice in yourself when you started joining the club organization?
ANS: At first, I tried auditioning at the siglayaw dance troupe but I was not accepted
and I was looking for a club that I could join and I found out that there is a club for
acting and I decided to join for fun. And after joining the club I realize that this could
be my passion and so I did my best to improve my acting, I just notice how I
became so loyal to this club, maybe because I have been through so much in this
club that I don't want to leave it but next year I'm thinking leaving this club for good.
IR: In what way do club organizations help their members unlock their talents?
ANS: Actually, joining club groups can help people discover their abilities and
realize their full potential. These organizations offer members an opportunity to
show off their talents and skills as well as chances for personal growth.
IR: Does it improve your self-esteem when you start joining the mentioned club
organization? Explain.

66
ANS: Of course, especially in Teatro because in this club shyness is not allowed,
you really have to show your acting talent. When something is asked to you, you
have to do it and for beginners, there is a chance that your self-esteem will
decrease after attending training. It can actually boost our self-esteem because we
act in different plays and in every different play you learn something and one of the
things we can do is boost our self-esteem.
IR: Did you become productive when you started joining the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Yes, especially when I stepped on stage for the first time it felt so good that
I told myself I want to join every project that we have, that I have to be active in
this club and be productive.
IR: Did you become more socialized inside and outside of the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Yes, because of course in the club the grade levels are mixed so you will
really meet a lot of people and so after spending time with different people even
outside the club you'll have the chance to meet them and talk to them.
IR: Did involving yourself in a club lead to meeting new friends? How?
ANS: Of course, because as I said in the previous question, there are different
grade levels that can join the club, so you will really meet a lot of people here and
this will help you to find new friends and socialize with them.
IR: Does the club you join help you to explore your interest? Explain.
ANS: Of course, clubs give people a place to come together and exchange
knowledge, experiences, and ideas. Furthermore, our club provides a sense of
belonging to oneself, support, and inspiration that can help people in improving
their acting abilities.
IR: Is your involvement in the club teaching you how to work effectively with other
people? Explain.

ANS: Yes, especially in our club, because what we do is acting and in acting, we
really need to have a good relationship with each other because that's one of the

67
ways we can show our unity more in every play we perform. And with this, we are
able to work efficiently.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: It does affect my time management sometimes because in club
organizations if there's performance, we need time to practice, so what happens
is that I have to divide my time between studying and practicing. There are also
times when we have an urgent meeting and so our time in class is also affected.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: Working with people who have different personalities and communication
preferences can result in misunderstandings. An introverted person could, for
example, prefer to work alone and find it difficult to communicate with their
extroverted peers. On the other side, an extroverted individual could control
conversations and stifle the opinions or ideas of others.

IR: What did you notice in yourself when you started joining the club organization?
ANS: When I joined Teatro I started to notice how at first I was still shy and didn't
know how to get along with everyone but after we got to know each other, I was
less shy and I got to make a ton of friends.
IR: In what way do club organizations help their members unlock their talents?
ANS: In Teatro we encourage each other to help boost each other's confidence
because in Teatro you really need to have this courage and confidence to unlock
one's true talent.
IR: Does it improve your self-esteem when you start joining the mentioned club
organization? Explain.
ANS: Yes, It really did improve my self esteem. Sometimes it does go low, but the
other club members are supportive and will help you with anything.
IR: Did you become productive when you started joining the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: I've been productive since before I joined the club, but after I joined I was
still being productive since that is needed in our club or I guess in other clubs too.
IR: Did you become more socialized inside and outside of the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Yes, I said in the previous question I became more interactive in and out of
our club. I have made a lot of friends in our club and also made other friends from
other sections.
IR: Did involving yourself in a club lead to meeting new friends? How?
ANS: Of course, after attending a lot of practices and performing through events,
we ended up forming a wonderful bond with each other.
IR: Does the club you join help you to explore your interest? Explain.
ANS: It did, since in acting you don't only have to be good in acting but also with
choreography and memorizations.
IR: Is your involvement in the club teaching you how to work effectively with other
people? Explain.

69
ANS: Yes indeed, you have to learn to be patient and understanding with other
people to have good teamwork.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: Ours doesn't really affect our time management, since we really plan out our
scheduling so that everyone can attend.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: I haven't really experienced anything like this before since nothing had
delayed our goal just because of a personality or communication problem.

IR: What did you notice in yourself when you started joining the club organization?
ANS: Upon joining the clubs I am in right now, I notice a big difference in my skills
prior to joining the club. I can say that my skills and talents are greatly improved
with the help of the values I learned from each organization. Also I am way more
confident in socializing with other people.

ANS: Yes, as a club member there are instances when you get to work and do
duties with other members in that way I'm able to work effectively with other people.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: Being part of a club significantly affects my time management because there
are times where my work is piled up then activities in my club will be given as well.
Sometimes I find it difficult to balance my academics with my club participation,
even my personal space because of loads of work needed to be accomplished.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: The difference between the personalities and communication styles can lead
to delays in accomplishing the goal because communication plays a significant role
in an organization. If the members differ and don't come up with one goal in mind
then a delay in their work is possible.

productive because instead of wasting my time going on my phone or doing
activities that I will not benefit from. I am now in a club that needs my time for
practices for activities and instead of my time being wasted, it is now being directed
towards something that is fruitful and fun to do.
IR: Did you become more socialized inside and outside of the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Ever since I was a kid, I was an extrovert so making friends or socializing
with other people was never really a problem for me but I think one thing that is
important to note was when I started joining club organizations I definitely saw the
true essence of being able to socialize with other people inside and outside of the
club organization that I am joining in.
IR: Did involving yourself in a club lead to meeting new friends? How?
ANS: Joining clubs definitely helped me meet some new amazing friends because
being in the same clubs simply means you share the same interest, and I am a
firm believer that interest is a good way to start a conversation and is also a good
start of friendship.
IR: Does the club you join help you to explore your interest? Explain.
ANS: Yes, joining clubs definitely helped me explore the personal interests
because as day goes by that I am a member of that specific club, I learned much
more about my interests and I learned to love it more as I did before.
IR: Is your involvement in the club teaching you how to work effectively with other
people? Explain.

75
ANS: My involvement in club organizations taught me how to work effectively with
other people because in club organizations there are a lot of members that you
have to communicate with and I am a firm believer that teamwork makes the dream
work as they say. Without the members working with one another effectively and
efficiently, the club will not be able to produce a desirable output and all efforts will
be in vain.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: Joining clubs means you have to master the art of time management and
joining clubs can definitely affect that because now you have a lot on your plate
and a lot of things that you have to balance, like academics, your club, time with
family, time with friends, time for yourself, and I think when things gets too much,
people who are very active in the club organizations tend to get overwhelmed with
everything that's happening to them both academically and in their club
organizations.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: There is no denying that every single one of us have their own personality
and our own communication style and in club organization, that can cause
disagreements and can cause problems and delays in accomplishing the goal. But
I think, beyond all the different personalities and communication styles, our interest
transcends and the difference we have with one another.

IR: What did you notice in yourself when you started joining the club organization?
ANS: When I started joining different club organizations such as Teresian
Comrades, Siglayaw Dance Troupe, and Religious Club, I have noticed that my
skills have been more developed, my talents have been more nurtured, and I have
learned more how to be a leader and follower.
IR: In what way do club organizations help their members unlock their talents?
ANS: Maybe the members will unlock their talents when they see their potential
and their co-members give them motivation to continue what they are doing.
IR: Does it improve your self-esteem when you start joining the mentioned club
organization? Explain.
ANS: Yes, as a student who has been involved in club organizations since
childhood, I have noticed that my self-esteem has improved more and more
because I am able to perform and speak in front of many people.
IR: Did you become productive when you started joining the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Yes, I have become more productive since I joined club organizations
because I pay more attention to time management in which I divide my time as a
normal student and a student who is often involved in club activities.
IR: Did you become more socialized inside and outside of the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: I became more sociable inside and outside the club organizations that I
belong to because the way we treat each other is not just because we are members
of the club but also as family members. Those who I didn't expect to be close to

77
the club, I suddenly closed and until now we still treat each other well even though
some of them are alumni of STC.
IR: Did involving yourself in a club lead to meeting new friends? How?
ANS: Yes, involving myself in different club organizations for several years helped
me gain lots of friends by doing our assigned duties and responsibilities together.
Until now they are still there to support me in my future endeavors. They have not
only become my friends but they have also become my family because of the good
treatment we have for each other which has helped deepen our relationship.
IR: Does the club you join help you to explore your interest? Explain.
ANS: Yes, the clubs I belong to help me explore my personal interests as well as
my talents and skills because as time goes on I realize more that these things can
be applied. and will help me choose a course and career in the future.
IR: Is your involvement in the club teaching you how to work effectively with other
people? Explain.
ANS: Yes, I am taught more how to work effectively with different people in the
community. The most important things to do as a member/officer of club
organizations is to engage with different members, manage our time well in
academics and extra-curricular activities, build relationships with our moderators
and other members, and to do everything with patience and love.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: Well, as a student who is really used to joining the club organization, I
learned to balance time as an academic achiever, officer, and member. Maybe
when I joined a club for the first time until it got too many, I doubted how I would
balance my academics and extracurricular activities. Then no club organization
should be left out because you can't give attention to just one organization.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: It is difficult because when different personalities and communication styles
are involved in accomplishing the goal, everyone may have misunderstandings to

78
the point that there may be blame within the members, so they should be open to
each other.

IR: What did you notice in yourself when you started joining the club organization?
ANS: I noticed that I became more disciplined and at the same time I manage my
time wisely.
IR: In what way do club organizations help their members unlock their talents?
ANS: For me, when they participate in the performance either outside or inside the
school they will unlock more aside from their talents.
IR: Does it improve your self-esteem when you start joining the mentioned club
organization? Explain.
ANS: Yes, I met many people and at the same time they became my friends.
IR: Did you become productive when you started joining the club organization?
Explain.

79
ANS: Yes, there were so many changes when I started joining Rondalla. I was
motivated to push myself to my limits because I know that I can achieve many
things but I'm just really lazy sometimes.
IR: Did you become more socialized inside and outside of the club organization?
Explain.
ANS: Sometimes, it really depends on the mood HAHAHAHA kidding aside yes
because once you're comfortable with your club you will feel that you can talk to
anyone even to the teachers but still with respect of course.
IR: Did involving yourself in a club lead to meeting new friends? How?
ANS: Yes, a lot of new friends and I found one. At first it was not easy to have a
friend when you suddenly joined any club. It takes time but once you're comfortable
with everyone you will never feel lonely.
IR: Does the club you join help you to explore your interest? Explain.
ANS: Yes, not just by playing the instrument but also on how you would perform
and what an artist/performer acts. Being an artist/performer is not that easy yet it
is fun. Before performing you should be ready at all times, you should always give
your best whenever you practice and at the same time you make a lot of friends.
IR: Is your involvement in the club teaching you how to work effectively with other
people? Explain.
ANS: Yes, I manage to ask other people I know, particularly my friends, for
assistance with needs, and they also guide me when I have some missing
requirements that I need to pass on time.
IR: How does joining a club affect your time management?
ANS: It really affects you because your body or yourself will be divided if you are
in the classroom you are a student and if you're in your club, you're an
artist/musician/performer.
IR: How can different personalities and communication styles sometimes delay
accomplishing the goal?
ANS: If you will not listen well to your trainer or director you cannot perform well.
By listening and understanding their words you will be able to perform well and at

80
the same time you will manage to avoid the wrong doings and master the things
that may be difficult for you. Sometimes miscommunication happens and it's hard
when you get the wrong information from your co-members. I need to listen well
and ask questions so that I can manage to do my task well.
