During the initial assessment, Mayura read and comprehended text at the 5th grade
level (5.0), and demonstrated knowledge of academic vocabulary words at the 8th

grade level (8.4). Mayura's overall reading proficiency, based on comprehension level,
vocabulary level, and reading rate, was at the 5th grade level (5.6).
Mayura's reading rate was 175 words per minute. This rate is at the 64th percentile
when compared to a national sample of students in the same grade within the United
SILENT READING FLUENCY & STAMINA States. In other words, Mayura can read silently and independently with good
comprehension at a rate that is greater than or equal to that of 64% of students in
the same grade.
One section of the assessment asks students about their motivation to read. Mayura'
s self-improvement belief related to becoming a better reader was in the very high
MOTIVATION
range. Mayura's self-reported confidence as a reader was in the high range. Mayura
also reported very high interest in reading.
Mayura will benefit from activities that support reading development in the areas of
fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Mayura will benefit from focusing first on
establishing strong and fluent silent reading habits and behavior while reading
relatively easier texts. This will enable Mayura to effectively and efficiently process
INSTRUCTIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS text, and to increase stamina for reading. Mayura will also benefit from increasing
knowledge of academic vocabulary words. Mayura can subsequently apply grade-
appropriate fluency skills and utilize expanded vocabulary as Mayura reads
increasingly complex informational texts and narratives.

Mid-Term Assessment, Benchmark 2 Summary (04-Jul-2022)


When Mayura completed the mid-term assessment, Mayura had completed 32
Reading lessons (SeeReader), 21 Vocabulary lessons (ReadAround), and 13 Visual
Skills lessons (iBalance), and had spent a total of 9.5 hours in Reading Plus.

COMPREHENSION & VOCABULARY During mid-term assessment, Mayura's comprehension level was assessed at 8.4.
This represents an increase of 3.4 grade levels, when compared with the initial
assessment. Mayura's vocabulary level was 9.5. This represents an increase of 1.1
grade levels. Mayura's overall reading proficiency, was 8.1. This is an increase of 2.5
grade levels.

Mayura read 8th grade-level text at 163 words per minute. This is a rate decrease of
12 words per minute, and a change in percentile ranking from the 64th percentile to
the 54th percentile. In other words, Mayura read silently and independently at a rate
greater than or equal to that of 54% of students in the same grade.
SILENT READING FLUENCY & STAMINA
Note that rate decreases are not uncommon, and may be desirable if they are
associated with substantial improvements in comprehension. Interpret the data with
discretion.
