Groupproject 2022023 s2

This document outlines a group project on steady flow devices for a thermodynamics course. Students will be assigned to groups of 5-6 members to write a formal report. The report must include: [1] An analysis of a selected steady flow device's performance under changes in parameters through simulation. [2] A case study on the real-world application of the steady flow device. [3] The report should follow the specified outline and guidelines. Presentations by each group are also required to present their findings.

SEMESTER: 2

SESSION: 2022/2023
GROUP PROJECT
(THERMODYNAMICS I - BDA20703)

1. TASK:

WRITE A REPORT ON "FUNDAMENTAL OF STEADY FLOW DEVICES: THEIR APPLICATIONS AND CASE STUDY"

There are two main systems in thermodynamics, i.e., a closed and an open system. In this project, you are required to conduct a details study
review related to the theory and the fundamental concept of the "First Law of Thermodynamics", specifically related to an open system which
is conveniently called "a control volume system". You need to do a detailed review related to the mentioned law for the system with control
volume including its related components and devices involved especially the devices called "SFD" (SFD). In order to fully comprehend the
relationship between the theory and the applications involved in this project in a limited time frame, you are required to select one type of
steady-flow device or "selected steady-flow device" (SSFD) under the "Case Study" section so that it can narrow down your study toward a
specific component. You are required to simulate the behaviour and performance of the SSFD operated under various parameter changes [1].
The study conducted should be documented in a full report and its contents should be presented individually by all group members to your
respective evaluator or lecturer [2].

Note: [1] Need to simulate with at least two parameters change. The simulation scope and parameter variation need to discuss with your
lecturer. You can use any software, spreadsheet, internet tools, or other suitable tools as your simulation tool.
[2] The report format and presentation method are described briefly in the guideline (section 2).

2. GUIDELINE

(a) You are required to follow the project groups consisting maximum of five (5) or six (6) students that have been set up for you
(please refer to: https://rb.gy/hdyg4).

(b) The groups are needed to prepare a report based on the following criteria:

(i) The report should be in the form of a "FORMAL REPORT" complete with methods applied, calculations, supporting
results, and discussion for the given project. In order to meet the standard quality and contents, please refer to the
guidelines in section 3. (WP1, WP2, WP3).

(ii) No similar content/title is allowed for the group project. Therefore, before selecting the title (related to SSFD – refer to
section 4), you must check whether the title is available, or it is being selected by the other group.

(iii) Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

(iv) Report: Should be prepared in softcopy.

(v) All the group members should involve in the progress monitoring activities.

(c) You are encouraged to use supporting and additional tools such as software, databases, spreadsheets, or other IT and multimedia
resources to enhance your presentation and your overall project.

(d) All groups must present their project and each member should be involved in the presentation. For this presentation, the group
only need to prepare the video presentation and the presentation duration is between 5 to 10 minutes only.

(e) Submission deadline is WEEK 14 and you must submit (through the Author platform):

(i) Softcopy of the report.

(ii) The recorded video presentation (format: mp4 or mkv).
(iii) Optional: presentation slide (format: ppt or pptx).
